What an appropriate nickname she got. Too bad Sakic,Brodeur and Yzerman are playing-out thier careers in one city. Maybe Betmann' part of Al Qaeda, might even be Osama. GO CANUCKS GO. Then Flames. Then Mighty Ducks. Then Dallas. Then Ottawa. Then Piitsburgh. BRING ON The Play-offs. Oilers go Golfing. In all fairness to Brodeur, you can only stop the shots that come your way, whether it be 40 or 15 in a game.
But I still just believe Roy's career was too impressive to ignore and will be unmatched.

It is almost impossible to build a dynasty team now a days with the salary cap in place. As the years go by the players develop and demand more money, the glory days in Calgary are soon to be over grrrrrr.......... Free agency will break up any dynasty

Glory days???! They have to win something first in order for any particular period of time to be considered "glory days". That's priceless!

Brodeur has been one of the best.

Roy had moments. But his play was at best always shakey.

I cringed everytime i would see him go out of the crease for the puck.

Usually when it messed up for him, which seemed like it was 50 percent of the time.

His play was affected.

see thats the spirt bugg. keep the boa alive. i keep on changing my mind on laughing when i think of the smyth deal to kinda feeling bad for oil fans.

the whole thing with the new cba andnhl owners and gms wanting there clubs to be more of a business doesnt make sense really..well as to the smyth trade...if your fans/consumers want a player/product isnt it really just a matter of keeping them happy? i understand trying to clear up cap room to save money and such, but i dont see trading your heart and soul away. why didnt lowe try and get this deal done 3 months ago? from what i understand smyth loved playing for the oil....and most likly would have inked a deal with them later, why trade him?

anyways.....enjoy wacthing the playoffs from the outside edmonton. thats 3 years in a row for the flames and only 1 of 3 years for the oilers.

go flames go
in sutter we trust

Roy vs. Broduer

I took a look at the stats between Roy and Broduer, and they go like this...

Roy

20 Seasons played
1029 career games
551 wins
2.54 career GAA
66 career shutouts
28353 career shots on goal (SOG)

Broduer

14 Seasons played
874 career games
485 career wins
2.20 career GAA
92 career shutouts
21709 career shots on goal (SOG)

Now, when you do the math a couple of things stand out.. .first off, some were saying that Broduer had the better defence, well infact Broduer on the average faced 1550 SOG a season, and Roy faced an average of 1417 SOG...

Broduer is on pace to shatter Roys records, all of them... but looking at the stats Broduer is only behind in one stat, and that is career wins... now saying that, he has played 6 less seasons than Roy... Broduer is only 66 wins behind Roy as of today... if he plays for 6 more years and averages 11 wins a season he ties Broduer... but Broduer is at 39 wins already this season, he is only getting better as he gets holder, possibly two more seasons and he beats Roy's record with 4 years to spare...

In my books, Broduer is arguably the best goalie of all time, barring injury...

When you do the math

I think what we all seem to be missing is that all the players in the league are assets
plain and simple assets for 30 fortune 500 companies
Iginla ,Heatley ,Crosby Kovelchuk They will all be on the block sooner or later
Staying with one team for a whole career is a thing of the past
after Brodeur and Sakic retire we will probably never see it again

Smyth was traded because he was a 70 points a year player who wanted 5.5 mil
Heart and soul didn't even factor into it and probably never will again
I also think that it won't be long before players simply play out their rookie contracts
then just sit out the regular season and sign with the highest bidder at the trading deadline
and why wouldn't they ?
Skip the possibility of injuries and extend their careers by a few years

Sound stupid ? wait and see

"I'm curious, were Mctavish and Lowe not on the Rangers Last Cup team with Messier?"

YUP, MN, They were both with Mess in New York when they won the cup in '94...Just a few others also as the rangers were called the NY Oilers that year...... Especially after the trade deadline..... Also on that team were of course Adam Graves ( my all time favorite player) who was on the Oil for their 1990 cup.... Plus Jeff Beaukaboom, Glenn Anderson, Esa Tikanan... And of course Mark Messier to bring the total of former oilers to 7.......

Lyric, I don't see the Penguins losing Crosby at all. Granted, ANYTHING can happen in the next 15 years, but for the majority of his career, I do believe he'll be a Penguin. He's one of those players you just don't trade or let sign with another team. He's more than their best player. If the Pens stay in Pittsburgh, he will be the franchise-saver, the same way Mario was. How lucky are the Pens to have these players?? Mario, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Coffey, Francis?? Are you kidding me?

What I was saying was that, especially since there is a player cap in place, the Pens feel that no amount of money is too much for Sid the Kid. That would probably even be true if there was no cap (but then they wouldn't be able to afford him). Now that there is a cap, I don't see how they will let him walk away. He's too important and everything they do will revolve around him.

Thanks Babe. We all be aware of where mess was the year before that too. But too bad you couldn't get Gretzky. Like if Edmondton had of kept them,ya might still be winning cups . I call it a footnote to the Ryan Smyth saga. New Jersey finally breaking up too. Watching the "Battle Of Alberta" round seven. Look-out if Calgary gets in the habit of winning on the road. Go Canucks Go.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist Rez
Being a Sens fan in Leaf Nation gave me an idea to start a pessimists club
like the optimists have but I didn't think anyone else would join
but seriously I bet Bruins fans said that about a couple players
three of which were franchise saviours or so we've been told
I think what makes these guys franchise players is that they remain superstars
for so long their supporting cast begins to fade until they are the only valuable assets
It would be nice to see Sid the Kid stay for the duration or Alfie but even he might price himself out of town
Keep in mind the cap and the Penguins triumvirate making under 3 mil for all of them
that ain't gonna last I don't think but then again I am a pessimist

In say 3 years there is no way the pens can keep Crosby, Staal, malkin and Fleury... Not in the new capped NHL.... The only one they will keep for sure of course is crosby.... The others will demand and get higher salaries..... They will eventually get traded away..... Hopefully to the NYR... LOL

I've mentioned it elsewhere. Take into note when signing multi-year deals what be in Vancouver in 2010. It tink it's a no-brainer Crosby will be on an Olympic Team. As well most likely be Rechi's last kick at it too. I wish the wild would just go away. Flames winning on road,look-out Stars,Red Wings,Mighty Ducks,Avalanche ,Sharks and whoever else gets in thier way. Beware of Roberto Loungo too.

I would love to see the Canucks go on a long playoff and run and give Linden one last shot at the cup. With a bounce here and one there the Canucks will make a run like the Flames did. At least we have a goalie who will steal us a few games instead of giving them away.

That is true Vancouver had lacked a playoff goalie in the past but with Luongo in net he will be a huge difference in the playoffs

David hit the nail on the head with the mention of lucky bounces.

At the beginning of the season for the Canucks, those losses in the one goal games, they just couldn't pull it off. Naslund being a perfect example of that. A little prior to Christmas, and following, you would see the shot go in off a skate, or there would be that goal that the opposing goalie should have had go in, Luongo has been standing on his head mosts nights, which gives Vancouver that chance to pull of the one goal games which is HUGE come post season.

Be it they have home ice advantage or not, I really do believe Vancouver is going to make a huge playoff run this year, now lets just hope they can stay healthy.
