Canucks in 5? You been smoking too much of that West Coast chronic!
Without Cooke and Kessler, and now add their top two defencemen this season, Salo and Bieksa, to the mix, the 'Nucks are in serious trouble.
You're right about one thing. Without Salo and Bieksa it may be a sweep. Just not for the team you're calling.
With Mr. Almost All-star Rory Fitzpatrick and Alex Edler in the line-up, Luongo is going to have to play even better in this series than against Dallas for Vancouver to win, and I don't know if that's possible.

Personally, I don't really care who wins this series and all things being equal, this could be a good series. But in order for all things to be equal, Anaheim is going to have to catch a dose of the injury bug – and quickly.

Musicnut, sorry, but do you hear yourself speak??

All the remaining teams are here because they deserve to be here. Suggesting anyone will sweep another team is just insane. Especially in the West.

Another big difference .... they seem to have patience and aren't panicing

well ,a few of my predictions seem to have gone the way of the Whalers
but Ott and Buf I got right as well as the Ducks didn't think the wings had it in them
so the final four I'm thinking The Sens in five and Ducks in six
By the way why is Miller viewed as an elite goalie
his numbers don't show him to be better than Emery by a country mile
slightly better in reg season if anything
oh well we'll know better by next week ..till then

True enough. There has been some suprises as well as the expected. I mean, everyone and there dog picked the Sabres and the Ducks to go deep, if not all the way. However, the Wings have completely surprised everyone. They seemed to have learned their lesson from the beating the Oilers laid on them last year. Babcock has gotten through to his players on what needs to be done in order to go further than the first round. They dump, chase, forecheck, cycle and are a physical team, but they can still play the possession game when it is required. I was quite impressed with the Rangers run as well. They disposed of Atlanta easily and gave Buffalo a run for their money. Another surprise - in a bad way - was the way the Flames just folded like cheap tents. They were never really in the series. The Sens look like they could potentially go all the way to the finals, but taking down the Sabres is a daunting task. They may have won game one, but the real Sabres haven't shown up yet.

Ducks and Sens in six then Ducks in seven. Team with fewest Canadian Players be Ottawa. At least thier critics be bein....-up. The Red Wings are the Red Wings, always, perreinial contenders, cal it the who-sucks factor. They got a betterteam than most people reailze but Ducks fly better. Betruzzi will not get away with parking himself in front of Jegehr, probably see Anahiem's Back-t00. Only Greater New York area team allowed to do well. Question be whon't be in Calgary next year,Iggy or Kipper.

Could somebody who lives nearby this bozo PLEASE go and give him a whack upside the head?!?! Maybe then his posts will start to follow something approaching linear thought....

GO SENS!!
If the Sens can keep up the same physical play they showed in game one, then the series will be theirs in 5 or 6.
Sure hope Buffalo gets someone in there to take care of the ice, though! Saw at least two Sabres players fall down in the 3rd period, with nobody near them! What the hell?!? Better get the "Ice Man" Dan Craig in there to fix things up.

The best storyline would be Ottawa vs Detroit. It would only be fitting if the Sens had to face their old #1 goalie en route to a Stanley Cup.

For bailing on Edmonton, I don't think Pronger deserves another crack at the Cup, and I don't ever want to see the Ducks win anything because the franchise makes a mockery of the NHL and is a symbol of everything that is WRONG with the game.
ie: Three teams in California, three teams in New York, but only two teams in Ontario?

I totally agree! Plus, only ONE team in Quebec?!?! Unacceptable.
They could definitely take one of the teams from both California and Florida and put them in Seattle and Portland OR, Those would make great rivalries for Vancouver and LA. (as well as cutting down on travel costs.) The Canucks could even go 'old school' and take the train to games in Seattle.

allllllright then about 50% of TSN and Sportsnet commentators are incredulous
at what the Sens have so far accomplished while the other half are making space on the band wagon but the thing they all have in common is they are all Leaf fans with a healthy dose of
reality sickness.
I asked this before and received no answer so once again
Why is Ryan Miller viewed as an elite goalie ?
Tim Connelly and Afinaganov have got to be the most entertaining stick handlers
in the league today and that Vanik guy has got more moves than a snake on sandpaper
But all it takes is a bone crusher from a Sens D-Man to make them realize
that this is a mans game and being cute only gets you into the dance
it doesn't mean you get to take home the girl or in this case Stanley..........

Miller can play amazing at times, but I think he has been inconsistent. I wouldn't put him in the category of Luongo, that's for sure! I'm surprised by how well the Senators are handling the Sabres. I mean, the Sabres came out of the gate flying, but then the Sens gradually took over and were the better team. Fisher is playing like a man possessed and Alfredson is playing amazing .... even playing a physical game!! How about Spezza? Wow! The Sabres just can not handle the Sens big line.

edit: for tonight's game, GO WINGS GO!!

i think the sabres made a mistake in letting biron go...it was just marketting i think as miller time sells, plus he isn't bad...i'm a bit surprised so far as well in this series. I wonder if all the injuries the sabres had late in the year has affected their 'clicking' as they really haven't clikked all playoffs compared to last year. plus they're not blocking anywhere near as many shots as they did last year. Everything's going right so far for the sens this year in the playoffs; i kinda wondered if this might be the year the Sens make it to the mountaintop to meet the west, the night Marty let those two soft ones in in Game 3 last series.

Even though i don't really like alfy, i know that most of the sens fans are like jays fans were from 92 and 93. They're good sens fans, but lousy hockey fans. i have sens fans for friends that weren't going to renew their seasons tickets last summer if they didn't get rid of alfy. Now Alfy's their hero. As a Leaf fan, I can't tell you how much we usually despise him for a few of his shenanigans over the years. But I'm glad to see him having success and everythings going in for him. Good for him. He's a hard worker and he cares like crazy. i think the years of losing were bitter on him and he's really matured this year , and tempered his tone a bit, and he's a good captain finally.

...but you never know what can happen in ottawa...this could still go awhile.
i keep waiting for the balloon to burst on emery with all the rebounds he lets out. but they're not testing his glove either. I noticed a lot of teams thru the season working him glove side cuzz he had some hand issues earlier. But MAN he lets out a lot of big rebounds.

on the other side, boy i like both these teams in the west...but because i always thought hasek had a bit of a horseshoe up his @rse and because shanny and stevey Y are gone, i think i'm pulling for carlyle...he paid his dues and i like burkey.. He's a very smart irishman..and prongers a horse. i've always liked him.

Dang! Who would've expected this from the Sabres?? You can't tell me that they actually showed up yesterday. The Senators are playing great but that's not the only reason they are winning. Something has happened in the Sabres dressing room and they look like they are just going through the motions right now, like lambs to the slaughter. Oh well, it should be over by tomorrow. It's funny to hear the CBC guys and TSN talk about how the Sens will go to the finals and may even win the Cup when none of them predicted the Sens to factor in to anything this year. Gawd, if TSN had had their way, there wouldn't have even been playoffs this year - they just would've handed the Cup to the Sabres at the conclusion of the regular season.

By the way, those Sharks need a major overhaul. It just occurred to me that it's two years in a row that the identical defeat happened to them. They completely dominated Edmonton last year in the first two games and looked like they were gonna sweep them when the Oilers rebounded and won the next four games. This year, same result, same outcome...

I have a comment on the so called "Emery rebound problem"
It occured to me against The Pens that Emery was trying to kick some
shots out behind the play in front of him where oddly enough was an open Senator
One times a fluke but I've seen it at least three times since
not that he doesnt leave a few at his feet or in the slot but even most of those
are picked up quickly by a team mate and sent the other way
Is that the plan or is he just so big everything is bound to hit some part of him ?

The other thing I've noticed is Heatley has been a little shaky with the puck this series
like its a little faster than he's used to or he's working through a batch of whiffy sticks
who knows ? I'm sure he'll be as good as his luck was on that Sens goal in the last game

some people might find it hard to believe but that is exactly what emery's in theory trying to do...there is a fine art to rebounds much like playing shape in pool after the shot, the save is just the half of it, forwarding it onto a teammate is the other. Tony Esposito was remarkable at pointing his pads the right way to get the puck to bounce almost right over to his D-man's stick and away they go up ice. So was Belfour when he was in the Dallas days.

he's still young...he's big and he'll smother them eventually...he did a much better job last nite...but if a seasoned team like wings gets to the final, you can bet they'll have scouted it and will work it...same with the glove hand...he gets the glove there in time Ok, but doesn't grab it a lot of the time, and it bounces off almost anywhere...not so much now as say 8, 10 weeks ago, so maybe his hand is much better now.

as for heatley, man he's had some chances. But for every one he's missing, Alfy's getting everything so they're Ok. fish is playing really well, and theyre healthy.
All through this almost decade of playoff angst for the Sens I don't think they've dealt with their next problem yet. A possibly long layoff. if they put the sabres out with the broom tomorrow night, they've got at least probably a week of down time.

I think they'll be Ok, and they'll need it anyway because these two teams in the west are good hockey clubs. Naturally all my sens friends are calling me now to rub it in. But there still not sure so it's guarded optimism. i tell them not to worry. i think the Sens getting past the Devils in short order was like a huge burst of believability in this hockey club's history for themselves.

That's Ok. I remind them that by the end of the week they'll have to write letters to the local papers explaining how Muckler went from being the worst GM in the world this past summer to being such a quick study of the game that he's now awesome...Ah, the pain of pulled tendons from jumping on and off the beloved bandwagons.

Actually, if you can't do that, you aren't an NHL goalie. It's nothing that you won't see every other starting goalie in the league do. It's something you start being taught at the peewee level. Generally speaking, if you don't show some capacity for being able to direct rebounds like that by the time you're in your second year of bantam, you're not even likely to be drafted in your respective major junior (QMJHL/OHL/WHL) hockey draft.

Certainly some of the goalies are better at it than others, but THAT'S one of the true skills in goaltending...one that maybe should be showed off in the All-Star Skills competition, as opposed to which goalie can fire a puck the length of the ice into an open net.

That's funny! I would've loved to have seen them guess who the Conference champs were gonna be at the start of the playoffs. I would guarantee you that none of them would've picked a Sens/Wings final.
