| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/27/2007 5:09:44 PM | someone made the point the Ducks are more Canadian..... I never considered it but that is certainaly a factor in crunch time lyrics (not like you know any better any way ).... I am updating my prediction to Sens in 7 .... Id take a guy like Wendell over a chicken Swede anyday..... and will someone please teach Forsberg how to skate.... yes they are paid more in the playoff... everyone has a playoff bonus.... and I call em as I see em.... not PC hockey doublespeak

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/27/2007 6:35:21 PM | "Id take a guy like Wendell over a chicken Swede anyday"
I'm thinking there are 30 GMs who would take Nick Lidstrom over Wendy Clark...anyday.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/27/2007 6:49:02 PM | ^^^absolutely...that guy is almost made of steel...i still find it hard to believe he's already played 1000 games...one of the best defencemen i've ever seen...put him right up there with the best of them...i loved Wendel too, but Lidstrom's a first ballot hall of famer all the way.
this is going to be a hard nosed series regardless...maybe even better than last years tilt...this is gonna be good hockey.
Demers is picking the Sens...he figures the Sens will win on powerplays. The powerplay unit for the Ducks are big boys, so one of the keys will be watching the Sens D keeping that line away from any rebounds. Redden's playing the best hockey of his career and this Volchenkov is a stud.
Some simulation thingy has the Sens winning it at home in Game 6, after dropping game one, they win 3 straight...and Heatley from Spezza for a 2-1 win in the last game of the year.
as for this superficial euro spineless debate, guys like Selanne, Volchenkov, Lidstrom, old Nick Konstantinov, are all guys i'd have on my team...and I've always loved the way Forsberg plays...wreckless abandon for his own body, reminds me of an old D that wore number 4 when it comes to sacrificing his body.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/27/2007 7:54:20 PM | yknow the more i think about it the more I am tempted to think the ducks might win.... if it goes 7 games If Alfie is out or his line is checked this series is not onesided.... Having a Euro "C" could be the kiss of death.... i will laugh if they blow it... just proves me right.... like I said... I call em as I see em
Wendell wasnt talented... but he did everything he could with 110% and never took a night off..... he was all heart

Pretty hard to prove whether you're right or wrong, considering you've changed your mind at least twice in the past 24 hours! Must make it kind of uncomfortable, sitting with those fence pickets up your...brain.
It'll still be the Sens in 6.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/27/2007 9:16:47 PM | alfie's paid his dues. And he's taken more than his fair share of derision from his own fans. The whole franchise actually have paid their dues. There's no shortcuts to success...the jays should have gone all the way in '85 with shaker moseby, bell and barfield in the outfield, but they didn't make it to the top till 92...
the Sens have put together a good franchise and they've been contenders for the better part of a decade...as a Leafs fan i think it would be great for a team from our division to take it all...wouldn't bother me as a leaf's fan...but then again, i've met lots of retarded leafs fans over the years as well. I've probably forgotten more about the Leafs than most folks will ever know.
.eventually a championship team learns from their defeats. Just like the Islanders did and just like the Oilers did years ago and very much like the Jay's did. Fortunately for the Sens, they've kept it together for awhile now...i thought they erred in the off-season keeping Redden and letting Chara go...my two chums with seasons ticket's told me last year they weren't renewing their subscriptions if the Sens kept Alfie after letting that Pominville go around him...nonetheless, Emery should have pokechecked the guy when he was at his crease...plus i thought Murray was kinda dumb last year breaking up the pizza line just before the end of the season last year.
it'll be a good series...maybe not the drawing power the NHL brass could have wished for, but the Ducks have been knocking at the door for a few years now as well...I just like to see it end...early June is way too late in the year for me and I've lost a bit of my enthusiasm for the whole NHL after the last lockout.
Carlyle's a Sudbury boy, plus the dumbo Leafs gave up on him as a D before they shipped him to Pittsburgh where he won a Norris...plus I like Pronger and Burke. Never been that much of a Muckler fan, but he's good at what he does.
as for Wendel Clarke..he did have lots of talent...and a wicked shot, even though he always said he just closed his eyes and let 'er go...he was a real good D-man in junior and his Dad still says he should have stayed back on defence...he was a warrior and he would have played a lot longer had he not had to fight all the tuff guys during our wimpy 80's...but for skill, talents and heart, Forsbergs a pretty darn good role model for how to play the game
just callin' 'em as i see 'em as well

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/27/2007 10:43:55 PM | grog
i am a flames fan first, then anyone but the oilers. other then that it doesnt really matter to me. i've had more intrest in the whl playoffs and the iihf world championship this year then these playoffs. kinda boring this year compaired to the last 2 years.
and saying its not a canada vs world thing doesnt shot my argument apart. i just hate people that jump on a teams band wagon cause they are the only "canadian" team left.
blah anyways this stale.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/28/2007 4:54:26 AM | the ducks have gotten lots of good press and sound pretty worked up for a win It might be the most entertaining playoff hockey weve seen in a decade if Ottawa loses Ill be calling Alf an Alien Life Form ...... its why the leafs suck so bad too.... whatever happened to old timehockey ..... I am predicting ducks in 7.... even a blindman can see a stategy for the ducks.... neutralize Ottawa's first line... pound everything that moves inside their own blueline and try to dominate play between the blue lines...... the first 2 are easily achievable.. but that just me and.... I call em as I see em ......... | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/28/2007 8:24:30 AM | ^^^^^ Most entertaining playoff hockey we've seen in a decade? I'm guessing you missed the previous two Stanley Cup finals.
As for your nickname of Alfredsson...whatever it means...just one question: what are you going to call him when he wins the Conn Smythe trophy? He'll likely be named the playoff MVP even if the Sens lose, as long as the series goes the distance. I don't understand why anyone would continue to bash the man. 2007 playoffs have been his post-season coming out party, so to speak. I don't see him slowing down this week.

Agreed. In 2004 and 2006, both series went the distance and had lots of drama to boot! Someone obviously wasn't paying attention.
Last night, the Sens looked like a very tired team. The Ducks forechecked and banged the crap right out of them. If there is anything I fear more than no rest, it's too much rest. They better get their legs under them soon or the series may be over before they know it. I am actually surprised with how well May is playing for the Ducks. I'd say that was a great pickup by Burke because you could see how the tide turned for the Ducks after that great forechecking shift by his line.
That was cool seeing Ryan Smyth and Miller in the audience.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/29/2007 2:55:57 PM | these playoffs might be the worst playoffs in over a decade. a week break not many going to 7. even wacthing the oil last year was better then this.
whens pre season i need to see some entertaining hockey games
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/30/2007 11:33:22 PM | | Wow. What a crappy effort by the Sens today. You can't expect to spot a team two games and expect to come back and win it all. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/30/2007 11:54:19 PM | well...the Oilers spotted the Canes 2 games last year and took it to Game 7. And they looked WORSE in Game 2 than the Sens did tonight!! But the Sens sure need to step it up at home.
That was certainly the most pitiful performance by any team in the first two games of a playoff series this year since the Calgary no-show in Detroit.
|

But the Sens sure need to step it up at home. Yup, they sure did last year...but at least the Oilers came out flying and got 4 goals in Game 1 before the disaster occurred. I think they had more of an excuse for Game 2 than this healthy Sens team did.
That was certainly the most pitiful performance by any team in the first two games of a playoff series this year since the Calgary no-show in Detroit.
Let's see if they decide not to show up for the entire series and then they'll definetly be like this year's Flames.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 12:53:15 AM | | someone was telling me tonight that only 3 teams out of 42 have ever come back from 0-2 deficits to take the Cup. I haven't verified that mind you, but the road is certainly uphill for the Sens now...they basically have to beat this Ducks squad 4 out of 5 now. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 1:39:09 AM | the sens didnt play bad tonight or in game 1 the ducks are just that good! if any of you wacthed the reg season you would have noticed the west was way better then the east this year. is it really a surprise that the ducks are better? way harder road to the finals then the sens. harder season. they play more games out of time zone this is only going 5 maybe 6 games. the canadians on the ducks will get it done.
go ducks go | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 7:39:39 AM | ^^^Yes, I've been thinking the same thing myself for several years now. It almost seems like lou lamorello of the Devils is the only guy who knows how to beat the west anymore. But it ain't over till my fat sens fan friends sing...lol
mind you the oil and the flames broke that string the last couple of years
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 8:59:46 AM | The East has won the last two years running!!! This is not over by a long shot we are going to see a best out of three next week Keep the faith............. GOSENSGO | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 9:23:14 AM | | Smack, they did play that badly. Look at the number of turnovers at the Ducks blueline when the Sens decided to be cute with the puck rather than dump it in and chase it. Not only did it result in no shots on net but created excellent transition opportunities for the Ducks. Let's face it...if it wasn't for some great goaltending by Emery, the score in both games would have been more lopsided. I don't care how good the Ducks are, 4 shots on net in a period is inexcusable. Also, look at the way Alfie let up on the player resulting in the winning goal. Yikes!! | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 11:49:49 AM | | wasnt it alfie that let up on the play that knocked the sens out of the cup last year? you can never quit in the playoffs, one second is to long. in the nhl you ethier do or do not, there is no try. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 5/31/2007 12:32:41 PM | ^^^he didn't really let up on the play last year. Alfie was actually the second of three players on that play to blow their coverage. Murray had him back on defence on the power play and pominville beat him when Alfie tried to turn and pivot like a defenceman wiould coming into his own zone. Emery should have pokechecked the puck off his stick as he approached. But yes, last night he (Alfie) was snoozing on the backcheck...
You're right lyric, it's not over till it's over. To get that badly outplayed and come away with two tight one goal losses, means it could have been worse. Emery might steal game 3 and then it's a whole new series. But the big boys have got to bring their A game Saturday night...the pizza line, or any combination of those three guys. The best players have to be the best players to win the toughest chamionship there is to win in sports. No more freerides for Spezza. he's got to start winning some faceoffs...and heatley's got to start winning some wars along the boards. I've always said those long layoffs really hurt a team that's higher than kites to have finally turfed old nemesis like the Devil's and the Sabres.
They got to get refocussed. this could be tied up by Monday night. there's still some hockey to be played. And Chris Neal can start playing anytime as well.

That's exactly the reason most pundits picked the Senators to win, or an Eastern team in general to win, at the beginning of the playoffs.
