So then they do even out pickmynose. You got the calls for your little league baseball team while your hockey club didn't get the calls in the Stanley cup semi's.

So now that we've headed over into the bad calls evening out department, i'm taking it that you've seen the light that the Sabres didn't win anything in 99? Let's assume the goal did get called back. So what? You're still in triple overtime. And you're still down 3 games to 2. So for anyone to say it should have been the Sabres with their names on the Cup is ludicrous. They still hadn't proven sh1t even if the goal had been called back.

Same with the Leafs. Believe me. There's nothing i would have liked more than to see us knock off arch rival Detroit, then Cujo playing light years ahead of everyone, then the great one and then finally meet up with the habs in the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup. But it didn't happen. And no amount of wishing or fantasizing will change that cold hard fact. Originally you said that as far as Leaf fans were concerned we won the Cup in 92/93. And from a guy that's been cheering for the leafs since before you were even seed in your dad's bag, i'm telling you that's not correct.

Few, actually none, of my chums that are leafs fans would say, or have said anything so stupid. If they did, I'd know i have a delusional individual for a friend and might suggest counselling for him or her to, again, get over it. We might say we got robbed. And we might say we got screwed. But we would never delude ourselves into thinking that we won the Cup that year because of a bad call in the semifinals.

As for the 85 Jays, you're starting to really drift off topic to prove an incorrect point so this will be my only comment as i don't want to be the one blamed for costing us the best thread on Plenty of Fish by going off topic.
Bobby Cox screwed that team up when he didn't bring in Ron Fairley to pinch hit. That is after all what we got him for. Booby Cox couldn't magae his left nut and he proved as much in Atalanta when his GM built him a team for the ages and all they managed was one Championship for a team that was built to win it all thru the 90's.The ball Sheridan hit to right field that barfield flubbed went out if that's what you're referring to. Yes Joaquin Andujar had every right to blow a gasket in the World Series. but i doubt you'll hear to many Cards fans asserting they won the World Series that year. They probably should have. They probably would have. But, they didn't.

But in the end. here's how it is from Bill Parcells. I was lucky enough to be flown to the States to hear him speak a couple of times on winning and motivation and stuff. No one cares in the end why you lost. As a matter of fact no one even wants to hear why you lost. They only remember the winners. Making excusues for losing is for losers.

You can carry on your debate with someone else now. We've gone to far off your original premise that the Sabres won the Cup in 99 and the leafs won it in 93. My sports almanacs show different.

And if the yankees get all the calls, how come they haven't won anything in 7 years? And how come the Sens haven't won anything period? Now there's an idea pickmynose. Become a gay caballero's fan, erm i mean a Sens fan. You'll fit right in with that lot. They think they've won the Stanley Cup every time they post a W in October and November.

Anyway. i agreed with you that professional reffing stinks. It always has as long as I've followed sports and probably always will. But as for the rest of your arguement, sorry, I'm not buying any of it.

With regards to the Hull goal you people should read a rule book once in awhile. When a puck enters the crease a player is allowed to enter the crease. Also possession of the puck allowed Hull to do so.

waddya mean? We only let in 4 unanswered goals in the last twenty one minutes of the game. hey Mccabes in 10th place on the allstar ballotting for the east...a couple of votes ahead of Dan Boyle who's been out most of the season...

As far as I'm concerned we won last nights game.hahaha

"With regards to the Hull goal you people should read a rule book once in awhile. When a puck enters the crease a player is allowed to enter the crease. Also possession of the puck allowed Hull to do so."

As I recall the goal, two things contradict your recollection of it.
1) Hull's foot was in the crease the whole time, thus the controversy.
2) He never "controlled" the puck - he tapped home a rebound.

I'd have to dig through my archives to see whether my recollection of the play is correct and I don't have time to do that, but I'm pretty sure on the first part at any rate. That's what caused the stir about the goal in the first place, as you are absolutely correct in stating that once the puck is in the crease the player is allowed to enter. I remember it being debated for weeks on end and had the puck been there before him, the debate would have died the moment the play occurred.
At any rate, it's a moot point. I'm pretty sure they are not going to change the names on the Cup

If they reverse it based on a PoF petition then they'll have to look at Denny Potvin being offside in Philly in 1980, the aforementioned leafs of 93, the Wings of 54, the St. Louis cardinals of 85, the catch up against the wall that did go the Cards way against the brewers in 83, the Chicago White Socx controversy on the called third strike a couple of years ago, the Houston Oilers foot in bounds when they said he was out in 80 against the Steelers, the nashville miracle against the Bills a few years back, and so on and so on and so on and so on.

If Calgary hadn't dumped the puck in on Steve Smith causing him to put it in his own net in 86, they should have won the Cup there as well so we'll have to set that one right as well. And if they hadn't had a power failure in boston in 1990, Klima would never have gotten on the ice. The refs should have called that game when the power went out so they'll have to give that Cup to the Bruins and take it away from the Oilers. And if Hadfield had got a penalty in 1970 for throwing Bernie Parent's mask up into the stands at Madison Square gardens in 1970, we wouldn't have had to bring jacques plante in and we would have beaten them that Series too, so there's two Cups we've won since 67. Right on!

And in 93 if they had called some penalties during game 7 of the Wings/Laughs series Detroit(best power play that season) would have won another cup.
This is all very silly.

When Hull shoots the puck his foot is not in the crease. Ref got it right. Goal was good.

well if those darn Sabres hadn't tricked us by starting Roloson in Game one of the East Finals we woulda won that Series too, and then it would have been us against Hitch's Stars....Then we coulda cried in our corn flakes about the disallowed goal for the next decade...

Last year the Sabres just choked or were overconfident. Poor officiating was NOT an issue as it WAS in 99. That is history, sorry for upsetting anyone, I just want sports to be fair and history shows that's not always the case. Noone said life was fair.

Probably neither. Sabres were not the same team later in the year that they were thru to the all star break. They had a hallacious run of injuries in February, almost limping to the finish line despite winning the Presidents trophy for number one team overall. They ended the season at 9-6 and 2 shootout losses after being 44-16 and 5 prior to their run of injuries. They took their first two series but were, to me, still getting their timing back.

The Sens came in and stole game one in Buffalo even though they were tied after two periods. Game 2 went to the Sens in double ovetime. game 3 was a 1-0 affair, and Game 4 was won by the Sabres but in overtime again. game 5 was won again by one goal by the Sens, so really if anything, Emery made more clutch saves in that series than Miller time. The series could have gone either way even if it did only go 5 games.

As for upsetting anyone, i doubt on here you have to be sorry to anyone. It's our game...even if it isn't always fair

-------------------------------------
"""In February, the Sabres found themselves battling injury problems. Forward Tim Connolly had been on the long-term injury list all season, and he was joined by Paul Gaustad when a tendon in his leg was sliced on February 7 against the Ottawa Senators. Jaroslav Spacek broke his left hand soon thereafter, and the Sabres lost Maxim Afinogenov, who broke his left wrist, and Jiri Novotny with a high ankle sprain. Ales Kotalik was next to go down, with a knee sprain, and forward Daniel Paille broke his finger. Against the Ottawa Senators on February 22, captain Chris Drury was injured by a blow to the head by Chris Neil..."""

I gotta go with "King" Henrik Lundqvist of my NYR...... Never thought a goalie would come along and make me forget Mike Richter.....

i just read this page and sly....what?
a little off topic maybe but ron fairly?
85 jays?
what are you on my friend?
he was a late seventies jay and only for a few years i think

bobby cox was and is a pretty good manager
the royals were a team of destiny that year and if they got a little lucky..well, they probably deserved a little luck in the playoffs for once

as for the sabres
they will be fine
NOT having a great regular season might help them if they can sneak into the playoffs...
which is my favourite strategy as a leafs fan
-only trouble?
we usually forget to sneak in

Sabres looked a whole lot better than Emery did last night. Sens look like they may catching a case of leafitis..win one, lose one, win one, lose one....

The Detroit Red Wings are the No. 1 NHL franchise, followed closely by the Ottawa Senators, according to a report in the Dec. 4 issue of The Hockey News.
The magazine used on-ice and off-ice criteria to evaluate the league's 30 clubs and determine a final score for each franchise. The Senators finished with an overall score of 92.6, while the Wings received 107.1.
The Florida Panthers were at the bottom of the pack. The Montreal Canadiens, the only other Canadian franchise with a top-10 score, were ninth. The Toronto Maple Leafs were No. 13, Edmonton Oilers, 15, Vancouver Canucks, 17, and Calgary Flames, 19.

1. the arrival of hitchcock brought a defensive system to help out their goaltending.
2. right NOW? maybe 8 games ago that opinion would fly and maybe be correct but leclaire has been garbage lately. hes doing good today though.

anyways, ill go with lundqvist. hes the obvious choice, and hes been very consistent to boot.

At the quarter mark,

I'd say Lecavalier gets the Hart.
(Kovalchuck a close 2nd)

Paddock gets the Jack Adams.
(Hitchcock 2nd)

Lundquist and Osgood in my mind are close with a slight ad for Lundy.

were you not the one who was saying dont get so excited over one game?

There comes a time pucks. There comes a time when decisions have to be made. And that time is at least now if it wasn't weeks ago. Rule number one when you find yourself in a hole: Stop digging. This club is headed nowhere but down now. They don't seem to want to win a hockey game. You saw what this team can play like when they play their 'best'. They shut down the leagues top team 3 nil. A coach can only ask that his squad give him their 'best'. Last Saturday night was their best, so apart from last Saturday night, this club refuses to give this coach their 'best'. So you either change the coach, or you change the club. But change has to be made. I like Maurice, but there's no way any fans should have to put up with this bullsh1t night after night. Leafs drop their fifth in their last 6.

Pucks, I dunno if you saw this interview the day before yesterday before the leafs flew to Dallas to watch the Cowboy's game yesterday in a private box. Remember i told you about the bags under his eyes. Check this video out. Maurice looks like he's aged about twenty years in the last ten weeks.Check out the bags under his eyes and his testiness near the end of the interview. His testiness reminds of the days shortly before Joe crozier or Bill Brophy got gassed. At least he's given up on his Chuckles the clown routine. Toronto's gonna put this kid in his grave early. Wosnewski and White are coach killers and leaf killers. Maurice's days are numbered. As long as he continues to play White and Wonewski this teams just going to keep heading south in the standings.

Dealing with Pressure
http://broadband.tsn.ca/tsn/?id=349&vid=22910

The guy sounds like a frustrated weenie. Tick tock tick tock tick tock.

I'm not sure how many games these two clowns have to cost the leafs, or how far back in the standings they have to fall before they realize what liabilities these guys are. Wosnewski's pass to Kaberle was a joke tonight. A completely unforced error again giving the Star a breakaway and the game winner. Cost them another half decent effort. However, you're not going to win many games with 19 shots on net.

Usually around this time of year the last couple of years i generally tune this club out until late in the season when they usually make their "too little too late" charge. The last ten games when they fight for next years jobs is when this club plays some hockey. Jerk offs like Mccabe and Collaicovo show dipsh1ts like ferguson potential and then he throws money at them like a drunk.

Ever since this team greased Quinn's wheels, this team's turned into a bunch of pansies. i don't see much difference this year. It's still good to catch Coach's corner usually around a quarter to eight saturday nites thru the winter, but as for wasting much more time watching this club, I have my doubts. This is pathetic to watch. Time to cancel the cable and go with a dish to get some real hockey this winter.

This is painful to watch, not to mention very predictable. They're now in 12th spot and all three teams beneath them have games in hand. By next weekend they should be officially fighting it out with the Caps for worst in the East.

They flat out suck. And the shame of it all is there is a nucleus of a half-assed club here. It's pitiful watching a team beat themselves night after night. i'll watch NHL hockey, but i can't see putting myself thru this garbage version of hockey every night. They play like garbage.

One look at the beleaguered Maurice and it is easy to see the toll the Leafs woes are having on him.
With the critics beginning to spread the blame to the Leafs coach, the personable Maurice seems tired, if not exasperated, these days. Fatigue is etched all over his face. His answers don't include the usual number of colourful Maurician quips. And while there are no Pat Quinn-like blow-ups during his exchanges with the media, you can tell his patience is waning.

Try as he might to preach team defence, the blue print never is followed on a consistent basis. Maurice soon will be running out of chalk after all the diagrams he has sketched on the blackboard at practice.

Who ...is the best goalie in the NHL right now?

Definitely Lundquist right now is the class of the league, with an honorable mention to Ozzy in detroit. Gerber was playing Ok, especially on his angles, but he still has rebound issues.
---------------------

Speaking of time for coaching changes, the second one bit the dust yesterday with Hanlon losing his job in Washington. Rumour has it Olly Jokeinagain and Jack Martin had a set-to earlier this week and they could both be on the chopping block. Not that I'm a big fan of martin, but if we could trade Mccabe and maurice for Jokinen and martin I'd take that right about now. Gawd get us some defencemen, and ffs get Blake off of Sundin's line. They are definitely not happy out there together and they're both misreading each other completely almost to the point where it looks deliberate like it did years ago when naslund and bert used to ignore Morrison out there. Brutal when a team is made up of individuals wanting to be individuals. There's no team concept in Toronto.
