You have successfully devised a chart that shows the Detroit Red Wings, who have only made it past the second round once in the past 5 years, are the best playoff team in the Western Conference.
As for accepting my apology on behalf of the 2008 stanley cup champions, gee...I was trying to make my apology sincere. But now it's being accepted on behalf of a team that not only does not exist, but in all likelihood WILL not exist in June. Oh well

WingS great regular season team. but a MEDIOCORE playoff team.

looks like the Wings are in for a possible first round loss again. They are going to have to face the Ducks, Flames, Hawks or Blue's. Before you knock Chicago (remember Savard has that team running well, with young stars like Towes and Kane) and ST.Louis (this team has completely changed as well with Kariya and company so they are not a walk through either.
LOL Pucky any other teams you think they might face in the first round. The Wings have been eliminated twice in the first round in the last 5 seasons. Dallas has also been eliminated twice in the 1st round. Calgary has also been eliminated twice in the 1st round and missed the playoffs twice. Vancouver eliminated twice in the 1st round. St. Louis when the make the playoffs both times went out in the first round. Chicago ...won't make the playoffs.
The facts are the facts... Detroit's playoff record while not as good as its regular season record is still as good as anyones in the Western Confrence.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/30/2007 3:51:37 PM | "It's tough being the best!"
It is...the Anaheim Ducks are finding that out. They have the Stanley Cup and until someone else wins it, the Ducks have to be considered the best
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/30/2007 6:29:17 PM | | True, yes they are Mighty but can they do it again? That is the question. What was the last team to do it back to back...hmmm...now don't tell me...oh yeah...Detroit Red Wings! | |

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/30/2007 6:43:42 PM | ^^^Forecast is for Snow . . and . . Wind . . They'll be switching ends midway thru the third to negate skating into the wind more for one team than another. | |

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/30/2007 6:58:30 PM | also they can call the game after 2.
flames played a great comeback game against the ducks last night. down 3-1 looking like they had no chance only to win 5-3. iggy with 2 and a helper. thats 53 points on the season 2nd, and 27 goals 3rd. this guy is a machine. looking better then ever.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 12:52:28 PM | They'd better not call it after two...wimps. I was at the Heritage Classic and after the Old Timers game the alumni were recommending at the NHL game be canceled, saying it was dangerous. Goodenow and Bettman had a meeting between games, with Goodenow pushing for the cancellation of the game. Bettman said "I am not going outside to tell 60,000 people who have been freezing their butts off for four hours alrteady that there won't be a game tonight. You want to do that? Go ahead, but make sure you say the PLAYERS are cancelling this game, not the LEAGUE." It would have been a PR disaster, clearly, but I remember in particular, Glenn Anderson saying it was nuts out there and he wouldn't go back out if he were in the second game.
Then again, there's no chance that it gets as cold in Buffalo as it was in Edmonton that day. The frikkin Zamboni froze over! An ice making machine that turned to ice!!!!!
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 2:31:31 PM | Haha...fond memories, Monsieur Pundit! I bought my scalped ticket online and flew back to Edmonton for the game... and boy o boy, was I unprepared for that weather. I remember buying tons of beer and those Campbell Soup Heritage Classic commemorative bottles full of hot chicken noodle soup to stay warm. What a day! I remember wondering what Gretzky's daughter (raised in balmy LA) must have thought as she sang out there in that arctic weather...lol. Anyway, I would have rioted if they cancelled the second game because we suffered through hell and back just to make it through the first. There were times where I wasn't sure that I was going to make it, but I toughed it out...so I can imagine that there would have been some seriously, SERIOUSLY upset fans. Good on Bettman! I never knew about the potential for cancellation, but that just adds to the legend of that game.
PS. If memory serves me well, it warmed up within a day or two of the Classic, n'est pas??

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 6:49:05 PM | my god the nucks brodcasters are horriable. i hate having to wacth other teams casts. i guess i am just used to listening to a broadcast with some class that dont only go for the homeside.
does no one of sports media know the flames and nucks last season tied the season searies? seriosly look it up not a hard thing to do.
go flames go in sutter we trust

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 7:19:32 PM | | I think they were tied over the last two seasons. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 7:38:39 PM | hey tickers if your talking flames vs nucks.
you cant tell if your wacthing the nucks broadcast. i love how they spin it to they nucks have never lost at the dome on new years. stuff like that. such low brow class.
go flames go in sutter we trust
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 7:55:19 PM | | I was talking about the Flames/Nucks series. They have tied over the last two seasons that they've faced each other. And I know what you mean about the Nucks broadcasts because I have to put up with it all the time. If you want to see real homers, then listen to these guys. You'd think they were destined to win the cup every year the way these guys spin things. That's all we see out here on the coast...unfortunately! Thank god for Centre Ice and NHL radio!!! | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 12/31/2007 10:15:26 PM | well im glad the nucks have felt what its like to play at the dome on new years. freaking bad broadcast though. i think the bolts have a worse homer though. in 04 he was quoted as saying take that kippursof as the bolts scored. like come on its all good and fun for the morning guys to take there shots and be homers thats what they are about. but the game broadcast should be a 60/40 kind of thing. i guess i am just used to class instaead of a jock sniffer.
blah anyways nucks suck, wild suck, aves suck.
go flames go win a few games oil in sutter we trust

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/1/2008 12:49:43 PM | | I can acccept comments like that from an american television broadcaster...they are paid by the teams, like the canadian radio broadcasters. But the Canadian TV broadcasters are paid by the station and SHOULD be neutral. Yes, the Nucks broadcasters are bad, but the Edmonton/Calgary ones are biased as well. | |

what a snoozer...took an hour to play the last 10 minutes. And maybe it's just me, but did anyone else get tired of hearing the announcers making weather excuses for the players? I mean, shut up already! What do you expect when you play an outdoor hockey game on Jan. 1 in Buffalo?
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/1/2008 6:44:38 PM | Happy New Years, everyone. As for the outdoor hockey game, they were playing probably at 75 percent of their capability because of the conditions, but kudos for the fans for showing up in droves.
Also, it is true that there are homers in every city. If you go to any fan forum, they accuse every other team's commentators of being homers. I have to admit though...the Nucks guys are among the worst.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/1/2008 11:56:51 PM | gettin' pretty close to the midway point in the season now...
Sundin picks up his 18th against the Bolts to move into a tie with Mikita for 25th all-time. Closing in on the Rocket next. Needs 20 goals in the back half of the season to move into the top 20 and catch Lafleur. Pretty good company to be among. He's come to play every night this season. He's been far and away their hardest working player this year. He seems as strong as ever (knock wood).
