hmmm, are contracts getting longer or is it just me? a few years back a 5 yr deal was consider a long term signing.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/11/2008 3:42:10 AM | Now it's like playing the stock market for these owners. They are banking that 5 years from now the salary cap will be high enough to make $9M a good deal.
Good thing the Oilers signed Hemsky when they did ha ha...4M for him is starting to look like a stea!

yes i'd agree. especially when you compare Hemsky to Penner and they both make 4 Million.
I think Lowe should lock in Cogliano and Gagne...for a few years ...not 15 yet but at least a 5 yr deal. Those kids look good already.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/11/2008 9:25:25 PM | | Cogliano and Gagner are still in their rookie contracts. I'm pretty sure those have to expire first before you can sign them to a 20 year deal. | |

doh.
all i was saying is they should be locked up for a longer term deal (after their entry level contract) as they look good and have great upswing/potential.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/12/2008 1:07:13 PM | | Yup, those kids really are something! They've managed to surpass my wildest expectations and I'm hoping that one day they do sign them to longterm contracts. | |

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/12/2008 6:44:46 PM | "and the Wings keep on winning"
well not last nite...loss to the Wild.
and tonite the Sens beat them too. The Battle of the best in the West vs the Best in East goes to Ottawa.
"can anyone beat the Wings?"
while the Wings have the best record, they are beatable.
Just ask the Oilers, Predators, Wild and Sens. In fact the the teams with the most success against the Wings this year are the ones fighting for the last playoff spots in their conference. Chicago has beaten the Wings 3 times this year. The ST Louis Blues as well. Not once, not twice but 3 wins for the Blues this season against Detroit. WOW. So yup their are teams that can beat the Wings.

|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/12/2008 7:03:37 PM | | yes there are teams that can beat the Wings, however they are so far out ahead of everyone else simply because of their discipline and skill. Yes they can be beat, but are they very often? NOPE. I think they have a fantastic chance to take it all the way this season if we can just switch Os and Hasek. Of our 13 measly losses so far this season, 9 of them were his. Its time for him to be gone, I hope by the end of this season he will admit that and hold to it this time. I think Os should take us all the way. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 2:03:56 PM | Don't worry about Hasek his numbers over the last month are greatly improved.
Pucky the Wings have to throw in a loss once a month just to keep the other teams from quiting! Come the first round you and I will have to have a little friendly bet?

Even Wings fans like the lady above are saying Os should get the nod and Hasek should retire. lol
Im hoping for a Wings vs Blues first round matchup.. Can you say upset....
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 3:52:05 PM | | ^ I can actually see it happening. Just like in '03, '04 and '06. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 4:01:37 PM | Ok ,Pucky and Ticky if the Wings lose in the first round this year I leave this thread for the remainder of the playoffs and if the Wings win in the first round you both stay out for the remainder of the playoffs.
Agreed? | |

why would i do that...i'll only place a bet on a team that i feel can beat the Wings...So i guess we'll just have to see who there playing in the first round first.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 4:31:39 PM | lol Pucky I did not think you had the kahones to stand behind your prediction.
How about you Ticky? | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 4:38:38 PM | Sure, why not? The only time the Wings have proven me wrong in recent memory was last year...and that's after they finally realized they have to adjust their style of playing.
Pucks has a point, though. It is a certain type of team that will catch the Wings off guard and hand them a shocking loss. Like the underdog Flames or Ducks or Oilers. The components have to be there. I could see the Avs or the Blues taking down the Wings in the playoffs.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 4:46:33 PM | Wow you guys are smart. I would never have thought that one team could beat another in the playoffs? If you read back I proved earlier that the Wings playoff record is on of the best in the confrence. Only Ahaheim in the last 3 yrs is better.
The Wings record just looks worse because of their great regular seasons and their 3 Cups in the last 10 yrs. But the facts prove otherwise.

you can think what you want...but your not going to twist me into something that i dont agree with.
as it stands today the Flames and Nucks will finish in the middle of the pack o close to it, so i doubt we will see them in the bottom seed. Looking like Anaheim, Colorado and the Blues will finish in the bottom half.
I said the Blues would knock them out...if they meet in the first round...i'm game and will back my prediction. I'll also add the Ducks to the list for a first round upset. I'd be stupid to put my faith in the likes of nashville or pheonix who are also fighting for the last playoff spot.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 6:03:53 PM | Earlier you said the Preds also and the Sens? Not sure how the Sens can do that but hey its your game Pucky.
So what exactly is your list of teams that will beat the Wings in the first round? I will give you any of them?

"Earlier you said the Preds and the Sens"
I dont think so...reference the message number...and i'll correct myself if thats the case.
"so what exactly is your list of teams that will beat the Wings in the first round"

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 6:37:37 PM | ^^^yes that is my quote for yesterday or the day before i believe. But where does it say anything about those teams beating the Wings in the first round. It DOESN'T. That post you referenced was a post in reply to your comment "can anyone beat the Wings " ...It had nothing to do with a reply about the playoffs. Just a recap of the teams this year who have defeated the Wings.
Only today , within the past couple hours actually have we started to discuss possible teams that will knock out the Wings or who their first round opponent may be.
Wanna review, so you can keep up?

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 1/13/2008 6:45:09 PM | Pucky you are back peddling so fast you might just race out the back door with the Zamboni.
Ok Pucky so you don't want to back up your statements. I guess you feel the Wings are a little stronger all of a sudden. You let me know about the friendly bet if you change your mind when the matchups materialize.
