| TSN Power rankings Posted: 3/20/2008 9:33:34 AM | """...just thought id get a rise out of ya.lol..""" Ok. It worked.
But on a more serious note, you don't get to, or have to, listen to this guy every night come up with new justifications and rationales for why they lose. Last week it was a couple of soft calls that threw the leafs off their game and made them think they were in a pillow night???..
He's finally stopped using the back to back one as an excuse since damn near every club in the league except his has proven that isn't an excuse. Most recently Buffalo twice and the devils just in the last 3 weeks. Then it was because we were missing Collaiaocovo. Well sorry to fill him in but Carlo's been injured for 6 years so if we're counting on him to win us some games, sigh....
He does everything but put the onus back on the players. Maybe they've threatened to beat him up if he says anything bad about them to the press. But this guy's become laughable to me anyway. He's got a new one almost every night...it gets very tiring for me personally listening to people justifying losing. it's just not in my background to be able to justify losing so much. In the end, Parcells used to say, no one gives a shit why you lost.
He predicted this club would not only make the playoffs but also contend. Those were his words. Two weeks ago when the press asked him to compare last years squad with this year's he started crying and left the press room. As a lifetime leaf fan, he's embarrassing to have as our spokesperson. Ever since then the press has laid off him and tries to say nice things about him. If he can't cut it as a coach with the Marlies, leafs could rehire him as a stickboy. If he were in the insurance business he'd be charged with false misprepresntation, baiting and twisting for uttering false promises..
He's the most inept coach we've had since the days of Floyd Smith. With all the brainlesss defensive miscues, unforced errors and mental lapses this defence committed in the first 40 games, he chose to sit Wellwood out in the press box. Now what is that? I would prefer a coach that has the balls to sit a McCabe or a Kubina or a Kaberle down for a few games and be prefectly frank about it in the press and let us know he's not happy with the level of play and until they're capable of playing hard for 60 minutes they should rest and watch. That's what Scotty Bowman did, Guy Carbonneau, Mike Keenan recently with iron man Sarich, Tony Larussa, and one of my hero's, the Big Tuna, Bill Parcells did it without hesitation. Absolutely without hesitation.
If you're not helping you must be hurting and until you're ready to help you might as well sit and watch. Lead, follow, or get the f.eck out of the way. Any coach that keeps kissing his teams backside while they're chronically underachieving couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He's basically begging them to play well. Meanwhile he spends countless hours a day admittedly, checking the standings. How about indulging a few of those hours on some video sessions with your defence there coach?
They're millionaires that need to be held accountable. And he has absolutely refused to yield on this and this further enhances the country club atmosphere that plagues this hockey club.
Plus he's the only coach in the league playing a man to man defensive set which causes all the breakdowns in the leaf end on the backdoor weak side. You've got, for example, Kubina chasing guys back up to the blueline and back to or three times in a shift until finally no Leaf forward picks up the weakside guy that slides in once Kubina's moved off his post. Leafs don't have the skill set to be playing man to man. They end up looking flatfooted while guys walk unimpeded to the net along the icing line.
Or like with jersey two weeks ago, Sutter just had his guys do simple give and go's and gives again. Three times back and forth and the man on man is beat and again they have a clear path to the net. Kaberle looked totally minor leagueish on the gamebreaker in the second tilt last week against the Devils. he actually let his man go and turned off to pick up a guy that was already picked up. Very simple stuff beating the leafs in their own end. If it weren't for Toskala this club would have been buried months ago. Oh that's right, according to some 'hockey people' they were buried months ago. And now he has a sudden love affair with Strallman. i'm not sure who gives me more ulcers out there, Strallman or Tlusty, but both of them need more time in the minors.

Toskala thought he'd try the Jedi mind trick on the puck...it failed. The puck's mind was stronger. Anyway, that was so laughable that you almost feel sorry for Leaf nation right now. It's just indicative of the entire team, its management and their year.
Their year..? How about the last 40 years!
Changing the coach is not the solution here. The ownership is the problem with the Leafs. Playoffs just around the corner the West is loaded and will produce the Cup champion this year.

| TSN Power rankings Posted: 3/21/2008 1:28:04 PM | Ya well we spend far too much time blubbering on about the leafs anyway. They need a weekend like Edm had last weekend. Otherwise they're history walking into a home and homer with the Bruins next week. If the hockey gods are with us, we could be one point up on the beantowners a week from last night with them having a game in hand on us. Time for a nice little 9 game winning streak to close out the regular season. They've got one. Eight to go. No time for pillow fights tonight.
Listening to that Oil game on nhldotcom thru the BC affiliate last night, they were saying Mac t should have started Garon as the Nucks have troubles against right handed goalies. Myself i like Rolly but he did look at bit questionable on the first two. I dunno. Canuckleheads are 4-0-3 against them so far this year. Split that record in half and the Oilers would be ahead of the Nucks in the standings. Nucks now 3-0 with Linden back in their lineup. They're sitting pretty in the number 6 hole or the 3 hole. If they wind up 5th they'll probably face the Ducks and that's not a nice opening round matchup. 7th looks like they'll get attacked by Sharks.
Real good radio interview between periods with Kevin Lowe and the fact that there's 10 new faces in this years Oilers lineup and the core of the team was hurt all year. I dunno if them or Jersey work the hardest at their game. I don't really like Lowe but it was a good interview. He spoke well of his coach and pointed out that he's proven that if you give him the most of the horses he needs to work with, he can get a team to the Finals. Is it somehow apprapo that Oilers and Ryan Smith are now going to go head to head maybe for 3 games to finish the season and vye (vie?) for that last spot in the west?
On Ted Nolan; he might be moving on since he seems to be heading for a trainwreck with ownership over the way he treats DiPietro. That's one reason why I'm not in favour of those extremely lengthy contracts. Divides the management team.

as does no trade clauses.they are a coach killer.nolan almost performed miracles with that team.they fire him, they are showing that they have no clue what they are doing.if i were nolan i would be begging to get fired.i certainly wouldnt be jumping from one fire to the next with the leafs though.mac t is simply an amazing coach, top five in the league.i have to admit when smitty was traded i agreed with it based on the contract, but when lowe started whining about how hard it was to get players to sign in edmonton i changed my mind.he knew this before he let smitty go,so if that be the case then you should of signed the guy who has poored his heart out for the team.

Going to see the Hamilton Bull Dogs and the Marlies tonight. Playoffs I believe. Hopefully they will put on as good a show as the Foo Fighters last night in London. Saturday night the Foo Fighters are in Toronto. Going to that one too.

It's hockey anyone? Start a playoff thread if you like. If we only concentrated on playoff teams it would narrow your own topics down to one. You seem to only know how to prop the Wings or trash the leafs. Kinda wears down your credibility a bit which is too bad. Occassionally you do sound like you know what you're talking about. But guys that only know how to trash other guys clubs start wearing thin after awhile. So, fill your boots with Wing talk.
By the way, what spot in the regular season did the Foo Fighters finish to qualify for playoffs? Go Foo Fighters Go. Go Foo Fighters Go!
Leafs 4 Sabres 2 tonight.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/21/2008 7:25:17 PM | Nice late comeback by Washington! Watched the game and just love watching Alex the Great play. Ovechkin with 2 goals and an assist. Backstrom with 2 goals roughly 30 seconds apart to come back from a 3-1 deficit with under 10 minutes left and win the game 5-3. I hope they make the playoffs because they'll be a fun team to watch.
edit: Oh yeah, the Big O became the first player to score 60 goals since 95/96.
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/21/2008 7:55:53 PM | 12 goals for him since the trade deadline. He hadn't scored in 7 games prior to that. He was sittin' at 48 for a while. He's on fire. If he gets much hotter he might just hit 70. He's exciting for sure. So is that whole club, but, myself personally, I was enjoying the scoreboard a lot more when it was 3-1 Atlanta,
Leafs gut another one out stealing 2 from the Sabres. Leafs went about 12 straight minutes shorthanded with about 2 and a half minutes of that on the 5 on 3. 4-1 Leafs. Back 5 but still alive.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/21/2008 10:03:25 PM | Sharks outshoot Ducks 17-0 in the third winning 2-1.
"""...My team My team My Team...""" He has about 5 teams in case one starts to falter he switches over to one of the other Canadian clubs. I think it just bugs you that they're still hanging around.
Spits down 2 games to Stamkos

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/22/2008 11:21:19 AM | Find a post where I predicted Detroit to win? Unlike most here I am realistic about the team I follow.
Detroit is a contender but till they find a Canadian leader (as I have said since I began posting here) I don't believe they will win. Could this be the year a Euro leads to the Cup?
Nothing bugs me Sly i just see it as amusing. The Spits are an inexperienced group and really geared to next year. They still need a goalie though. Stamkos is lighting it up. Its a shame he will most likely end up in L.A..

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/22/2008 12:09:46 PM | That was a terrible singing of the Anthems at the Edmonton game. Not much of a fight but two class guys taking off the buckets and stopping immediately when one went down. "Gotta Love Em" Rock em Sock em Hockey! | |

is that it?guess it is as good as any other reason.give draper the C and i guess they have it wrapped.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/22/2008 12:39:04 PM | Thats all it takes Passion. That and some surrounding talent. Look at history. Only once hasn't that been the recipe.
You don't just give the "C" it has to be earned and it isn't just the player that wears the C. Its the heart and soul guy. The one player who is the face of the team. He must be a Canadian to win!

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/22/2008 12:41:43 PM | """...Stamkos is lighting it up. Its a shame he will most likely end up in L.A..""" Most likely, but not necessarily. Chicargo had the 5th worst record last year and they ended up picking first.
Oilers up 3-zip in the 1st in a real 4 pointer with the Avs.
Sharks threw down the gauntlet last night. i realize Ducks were missing Perry and Pronger, but Sharks made their announcement loud and clear in a statement game for them last night. They are ready for the dance. Franchise record for spread on shots. 43-13 or something like that.

i have to agree with you,it just seems the atmosphere of growing up in canada provides a greater desire to want that cup.i think a player like ovechkin can compinsate for that with his amazing desire to win,but for the most part i cant refute your belief.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/22/2008 2:03:42 PM | 4-4 Time for a time out McToolish! I thought a 2 goal lead was the most dangerous Jim Huson?

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/23/2008 9:11:36 AM | Flames big guns played like Flames big guns need to last night against Minny. Iggy with a natural hat trick pushes him to 48 on the season. Phaneuf showed us why he'll end up with his name on the Norris in the not too distant future. Nice coast to coast goal on the PK by him. Flames need to bag either that 6 or 3 spot if they know what's good for them.
Oilers show more than enough speed to make an opening round matchup with the red Wings an interesting possibility.
"""...Foo Fighters beat the Leafs last night 4-1....""" Get down off those towers. And don't touch the purple microdot. Maybe if we think really hard, we can stop this rain. No rain...no rain...erm, sorry, wrong thread, flashbacks. Maybe Foo Fighters could beat the leafs cuz right now, knock wood, nobody else seems able to. Now 8-0-1 on the road and 4 points back of Philly and the Bruins with our 4th, count it, 4th, straight win over last years Eastern conference champs. Storming back with 3 unanswered no less after going down 4-2 with a stream of penalties again. Either way, a 5 star affair last night on HNIC. Barn burner of a game. leafs seem to be able to play with anybody these days. Wouldn't want to have to meet up with them in the playoffs.
Well would you look at that. Leafs have a home and homer with the Bruins starting Tuesday. Just who is going to be able to stop this juggernaut? Just peaking now at the right time. 6 games left. Look out Northeast, here come da leafs<img src=http://www.plentyoffish.com/smiles/icon_201.gif border=0>

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/23/2008 11:15:33 AM | It would be interesting if the Oilers learn to play defense. First they have to get to 8th though. Wings will be waiting.
Leafs-Playoffs ... lol now there is an Oxymoron. Did they not do the same thing last year. It is amazing how good they are playing without their fearless leader. Just think of where they would be if they had traded him earlier or just sent him home to Sweden.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/23/2008 11:40:40 AM | | With the WIngs’ playoff history, I'm guessing any team at the bottom would rather finish eighth than seventh, or even sixth. | |
