| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 11:06:12 AM | yeah everyone knows that. you dont go 15 years without seeing the 2nd round and 7 years with no playoffs and think you have a amzing record in the playoffs. those dark years will that awhile to erase. thats also why its so nice now.
however flames have been turing that all around, right now have the coach with the most win in the playoffs out of all active coachs in the nhl. a great gm, these things take time.
based on what both teams have done pot lock out nothing to brag for ethier team. the goal is not to just make the western finals or the cup finals. if the team does not win the cup then they did nothing of greatness.

Lets just see what happens this year.We will know the match ups next weekend.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 11:21:26 AM | Boston up 2-0 on Ottawa right now in the second. What the heck happened to Ottawa since December?
I really want to see a Penguins v Caps matchup in the first round (which is very possible). The media would be all over it and that's what you want for the playoffs.
Get the non hardcore Hockey fans interested, and hopefully a percentage of them continue to watch it through to the finals.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 11:27:14 AM | as the past has been bad yes, this year could be a differnt story.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 2:07:33 PM | lol...speaking of the Flames, I can't believe their string of luck in regards to injuries. If they manage to stay healthy, they could go deep. The whole complexion of the first round matchups are changing on a nightly basis ...lol...so we'll see who matches up with who. Can't believe Nashville managed to claw their way into 8th and I'm really thinking the Nucks are finished. No heart, no desire, no passion...but on a positive note, there's no shortages of excuses. | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 2:13:29 PM | | Nashville was predictable as they had the easiest schedule down the stretch. | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 2:16:30 PM | | ^ Yes, but the 8th spot was the Nucks to lose...and they did it in grande style! If the Nuckers didn't crap the bed, there would have been no chance for the lowly Preds to catch them. Their last few "most important games of year" have been downright embarrasing. | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 3:01:37 PM | agreed but wont it be great to see the nuck not rewarded for there boring style of play.
not that its likly to happen but who is winning the season series between the aves and oilers? if the oilers win all 3 and the aves drop the rest they would be tied on points and wins.
if i could make the nhl play the way i want. within reason of course.
3.flames 6.wild 7.preds 8.oilers 9.aves 10.nucks
so lets say oilers win all 3 games both flames games in 0t. flames win both aginst nucks and the wild game. aves drop all remaining games. so vancover's only win is against the aves. wild win both agaisnt the aves. leaving us with
3-flames 3-0-2 for 98 points 6-wild-2-2 for 97 points 7-preds 3-1 for 92 points 8-oilers 3-0 for 90 points 9-aves 0-3 for 90 points 10-nucks 1-3 for 88 points
well it works if the oilers are tied or own the season series between the aves. still thats how i would have it work out.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 3:21:38 PM | oilers 2-4-2 against the Avs i think...not much better against the Nucks either. i think Canucks are 4-0-3 against Edm.; but then again with points for losing that's not to say Oilers aren't 3-0-4 against nucks. i never checked that part. -------------------------------- Bruins 4 Sens 0 this afternoon. """...Thank goodness we had the great start, to be competitive now," Senators coach Bryan Murray said. "We're just not playing at that level now and other teams are playing at a better level than they were early on."
Fifth-place Ottawa, which has won once in its last five games, could still earn home ice in the first round - or miss the playoffs entirely.
"It's a possibility," forward Daniel Alfredsson said. "We know we could lose all three and Washington wins out and we could be out. And then we don't deserve to be in the playoffs, it's as simple as that."
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=233105&hubname=nhl --------------------------
The Sabres are in jeopardy of becoming only the third team since the NHL's expansion era began in 1967-68 to miss the playoffs a year after finishing first in the regular-season standings. The New York Rangers missed the playoffs in 1992-93, as did Montreal in 1969-70.
It would cap a dramatic fall for a Sabres franchise that won a league-best 105 games over the past two seasons and was both times eliminated in the East finals

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/29/2008 3:26:44 PM | Unfortunately, the Avs own the season series. Most of their victories came early in the season when they were relatively healthy and exploited the young Oilers before they manged to gel as a team and find their offensive touch. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Flames will walk all over the Nucks in both games, so the Nucks are out for sure. I think our only chance of making it, would be for us to run the table on the remaining games and hope that Nashville loses two (or hopefully all ) of their remaining games. If we win tonight, we are tied with Nashville in points and we have more wins, but they have two games in hand after our game tonight. Yikes! Need the Wings to clobber them tomorrow and hope that the Blues and Blackhawks play like spoilers against Nashville. | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/30/2008 1:06:12 PM | | great win by the oil.if they keep getting out played in the corners like they did that game it wont last though.lot of heart in that room right now though!!! | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/30/2008 1:12:23 PM | Oilers have been getting outplayed in their own end and outshot all season long. I'd hazard a guess they haven't won the shot clock game more than 20 times all season. Those are both signs of youth and inexperience, for sure.
Interestingly of all the teams the Oilers could possibly finish tied with for the final playoff spot (Avs, Canuccks, Preds, Flames) only the Avs own the tiebreaker.
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/30/2008 1:15:45 PM | just what i thought, flames cant win these games. we only win with our backs against the wall. been like that all season. somehow i have a feeling though flames win both games against nuck and the wild game and drop the other oilers game. oilers are playing some great must win hockey.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/30/2008 1:40:08 PM | Yes, true that. Amazingly, the Oilers have played so well and their offence has exploded so much, that they've become the 8th highest scoring team in the league and second in our conference...we're tied with Washington for 231 goals. If you look back just over a month ago, our goals-for were way down at the bottom of the league and the Oil have scored almost 4 goals a game for approximately the last 20 games to get where we are now...ironically, we have given up pretty close to 3 goals a game during this same stretch. Whatever works! | |

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/30/2008 4:18:45 PM | "lost all respect to that chump after the siging this late into the season. " A la Scott Niedermeyer and Teemu Selanne? The NHL had better hope that the Ducks flop in the playoffs. Imagine the ripple effect that could happen if they repeat as champions. Maybe poster boys Crosby ad Malkin will catch on to how little the regular season means and sit out until December next year. It will be a marketing disaster if the Ducks repeat. | |

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/30/2008 6:33:56 PM | yes same with those 2. hope they are out first round and the aves dont make the dance. or the nhl changes the rule to a free agent signing happing earlier in the season say 41 games.
