Like I said, if Pittsburgh were to try it with the Poster Boys, Bettman would be changing the rules in a heartbeat.

if it is obviosly not right, but legal it is a loophole.i am not saying it is right, but if felt it gave my team(player our g.m)a better chance of winning the cup i would use it.

http://watch.tsn.ca/#clip41787 ----------------------------------------- Now 17 games over 500 since Boudreau showed up (34-17-7), hockey fever is alive and kicking again in Washington. Caps are really selling the sizzle here in their 3 game home stand to close out the season:
"""The Washington Capitals are looking to become the first team in NHL history to make the playoffs after occupying 14th place in the standings at the midpoint of the season... ...Boudreau's instincts have improved the Caps in so many different areas, Washington has risen from 24th in the NHL on the power play when Boudreau was hired to seventh (19.2 percent). The Capitals have gone 15-9-4 on the road since Boudreau took over, putting them at 19-16-5 away from home this season; it's their best road record since they won 22 games in the 1993-94 season...The Capitals are 9-4 in March, their fourth straight month with a .500 or better record, and their longest such stretch since a five-month streak from November 1985 through March 1986. Boudreau was the fastest Capitals coach to 20 wins (34 games) and the quickest all-time to 30 wins (53 games). """

""" The Washington Capitals are encouraging fans to show their support for the team, deep in the midst of a battle for the postseason, and wear red to the game on Tuesday, April 1, against the Carolina Hurricanes at Verizon Center. Fans are being asked to don red jerseys, hats and T-shirts and fill the arena with red.
Tuesday’s game is the first of Washington’s final three regular-season games of the year, all at home. Standing only two points behind Carolina for the Southeast Division lead, the game will have a big impact on the hunt for the postseason.
The game is also the first of three during Washington’s Fan Appreciation Week, March 31-April 5, 2008. Full of giveaways, contests and events surrounding the team’s remaining games, the celebration thanks Caps fans for their support throughout the season..."""

Good marketting efforts by the ownership and management in Washington. ----------------------------------
And the plot thickens. Caps by the way swept the season series from the Sens if they do wind up tied with Ottawa for 8th. Carolina's starting to slip a bit. Big game Tuesday nite in Washington. It's a dog fight in both conferences for that last couple of spots.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 3/31/2008 2:12:35 PM | | I guess the reason I say it isn't a loophole is that I don't think it was an" intentional" ploy used by the GM. I don't think Burke said to Niedermeyer and Selanne "hey. take half a season off because there's a rule no one knows about." I think if Burke could have gotten a commitment out of those two at the beginning of the season, he would have. Now, if Ray Shero does the same thing next year with Malkin and Crosby, then he is definitely using the rule (or in this case, lack thereof) to his advantage. To me, that's where the term loophole comes in. Technically you're probably right, but I've always associated the term with a manipulation of the rules in play, of sorts. I may have even accused Burke of planning the whole thing out in the past, but that would have been more of a facetious, snide remark on my part. | |

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 1:30:48 PM | well prairie and tick looks like a good old fashion battle of alberta tonight. oil needing to win to keep them playoff dreams alive, and the flames needing it to keep the slim hope of winning the northwest.
looking forward to what should be a alll out war in the conners, some hard hits, maybe a scrap or 5. and most of all looking forward to iggygetting that 50th and sending ya oilers to the golf course.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 1:46:07 PM | | Should be a good game, Smack! The two BOA teams playing for something and both desperate to win this game. All the right conditions are there for an intense and meaningful game for both sides. Obviously this game means more for the Oilers, but the Flames still want that division title and after two defeats from hated rivals and at such a crucial time of year, you can bet Keenan will be bringing out the whip. | |

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 7:23:47 PM | Interesting stuff. We could be witnessing one of the greatest collapses in the history of the league here. Habs clinch the NE walking into Ottawa and posting a shutout. Sens lose and have now won 13 of their last 37 after winning 13 of their first 14 to start the season. Phew. In 6th now, but only two points out of 9th with two games left.
Caps win the big game of the night in the east. Canes have the tiebreaker but they could be in trouble here. Caps have pulled even in the SE with 2 games to go. Caps are also one back of Bos. and Philly and two back of the Sens.
That Nashville team just isn't that easy to put away. Down 3-0 they come back to beat the Blues. 4-3.
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 7:29:20 PM | Nashville. Unreal. Gotta put Trotz's name on the Jack Adams ballot. Carbonneau's name is likely already engraved on the trophy but props to the Cartman lookalike. Oilers only have themselves to blame if they lose tonight. Should be about 5-1 in the second. so was nolan a good pick up for the flames this season or what?
and the oil went down and the flames went higher. im glad that made your season bugg cause not much else to see. however seeing nolan slice that final blow to the oilers made my night.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 8:56:32 PM | | Gotta admit, Smack. This Oiler team will only be much better next year and they will be a terror in the Northwest. Half the team injured (mostly veterans) and Hemmer out of this game, and these young rookies and acquisitions outplayed the Flames bigtime over large stretches - especially the third period. See ya guys on the golf course in about 3 weeks. | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 10:22:03 PM | they may be ok next season but helping all 5 northwest team will be the new sheduale. isnt it changing from 8 times they play to 6? hell next season all 5 teams could make it in with something like that lol. wouldnt that be something hahaha maybe then the nhl would shake up the divisons after that.
good run for the oilers it was fun wacthing, but like the leafs had to end somewhere. hopefully the nucks can book a game against the oilers on the golf course. naw i just joke....was looking forward to the oilers finding that way in i wanted to knock ya out in the playoffs.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 10:24:21 PM | Nah, you can't compare us to the Leafs. This run was quite different than theirs. As for meeting up with us in the playoffs this year, you would have had to make it past the first round. Sorry. Actually, I still wonder how 2006 would have been if the Flames had managed to knock off the Ducks. It's been waaaaaaaaayyy too long since we've had a playoff BOA! Could you imagine how nuts Edmonton and Calgary would be? I remember the last time (1990) and I went nuts when Tikkanen scored in overtime of Game 7 to send us on to what eventually would be the Stanley Cup. | |
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/1/2008 10:54:56 PM | yeah to bad we cant go back in time. i wish we could macth the 04 flames vs the 06 oilers in a best of 7 war. now that would have been some of the best hockey to see. both teams all heart, wow what a show that would be.....anyone working on time travel?
wow this is crazy for the flames to get the best macth up for the first round being wild with flames having home ice....we need to win both games wild and nucks then have the wild get an ot lose ethier against us or the aves. which makes the flames win the tie break from the wild. with no point from the wild and the aves get the 6th seed. flames win both and wild beats the aves not bad wild win northwest and play the flames.

| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/2/2008 12:24:00 AM | I'm working on the time travel, smack. I agree, though, I'd like to see those teams from those years go head to head.
I think your chances of catching the Wild are pretty slim. You'd have to hope they don't get more than a point over the next two games...and that's IF you win your remaining two games. It is possible because the Flames do seem to have the Wilds number this year and then they have to play the Avs who are really coming together at the right time. If the Flames drop even one game, then it's over...I'm thinking that game against the Nucks will be heavily contested and Luongo can be an X factor when he's on his game.
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/2/2008 3:58:36 AM | smack ... you make life too complicated. If the Wild is who you want, just finish sixth. Home ice advantage only matters if the series goes seven and I'll tell ya ... if Kipper plays like he did last night you won't need seven games to beat the wild. He was unreal.
Now ... from the Oilers just falling shy of completing the most brilliant late season comeback in the history of the NHL, to the Sens, who are on the verge of the greatest collapse in the history of the league. Come on Sens. Do me proud. Misery enjoys company.
|
| Thread: Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/2/2008 9:29:57 AM | Not many choices when it comes to Canadian teams that might go deep. Yikes! I'm thinking Montreal likely could go a few rounds, but other than that...haven't seen anything that would convince me otherwise. If the Oilers had made it, I could see them giving the Wings fits, but they are too young and probably would get exposed by either San Jose or Anaheim or the Avs.
PS. It must really suck to be a Sens fan right now. lol
