| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 8:22:38 PM | Caps catch their break. Officially in the drivers seat now. Canes dropped the ball right into the Caps court. Sens, Bruins and Flyers all clinch spots tonight. Caps and Canes now either finish 9th or 3rd.
Caps finish out tomorrow night at home to Fla.; could meet the Habs first.(EDIT: woops.lol Scratch all that. They can't meet each other first round now.)
Caps Pens 2nd round could be neat too, but Pens don't have a good record against the Flyers if they meet them 1st. Bruins and Pens have had some nasty hookups this season as well. Or we could have a rematch of Sens Pens from last year. Gary Roberts apparently skated for the first time in months yesterday or the day before.
Brent Sutter blows a bit of a gasket after flyers shut out his Devils tonight. ""I dunno. Go on in there and ask them. They're all the smart ones in there with all the smart answers. ...You can talk till your blue or red or whatever the hell you want in the face....""
maybe you can find it on TSN tonight. Deadpan expression. Pissed off.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 8:23:23 PM | oh Lord....do we HAVE to talk about Kipperhead....?!..........okay lets then...

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 8:41:05 PM | Thanks pundit.
These guys are exciting though. you have to admit. This is gonna be fun in the east this year watching all this shake out. I have no idea who's going to come out of the east. They're pretty much the hottest club in hockey right now.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 9:17:38 PM | kipper heaad as you put it took over 30 games to get into the season. would you not be thankful if the oilers had kipper? wait ohh yeah thats right you had the best captain in the nhl play for you...ohhhh no theres more best pure goal scorer that leads the nhl in points to this day.........come on give me a break......without messier the oilers never win a cup. thought i was going to say 99 wernt you? yeah well he is no great one without messier and the rest of ya.
hgell yeah im proud of my team it only took a 2rd round pick to get kipper, any team could have had him. stop crying about it.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 9:36:39 PM | ^^^ are you fuking kidding?!.............i'd run over that guy if i seen him jaywalking...!!
and yes, we did, and yup, we did again...and ah huh, we did that time too....our Captains kick don't they smack?
and nope, I have always appreciated the "moose".....and the rest of our boys...win or lose.
"The Great One"....kipper wouldn't have mattered...
ps...only time i cry about hockey, is when i see magic on the ice....
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 10:08:54 PM | God I love it! I'm happy that the Caps are in and hope they do some damage. They still have to clinch, but I'm sure they'll get the extra point in the next game.
Anyway, the Flames are in tough and you would almost think that they'd be better off facing off against the Wings, but it's too late to do anything about that now. Almost every fan of the lower rung teams have said they would rather face the Wings than any of the top tier teams. Kinda makes you wonder if the Preds intentially dropped their game tonight to ensure that matchup.

^^^ are you fuking kidding?!.............i'd run over that guy if i seen him jaywalking...!! You're generous. I'd do it even without the jaywalking.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 10:33:27 PM | jealous much? come on give props when they are due. rolo or kipper?
down to just random words spoken eh? i never said captains i said one captain. the best captain to ever wear the "C" had zero to do with the oilers just luck that you had him.
as for captains the oilers would give any 5 players on there team right now to have iggy as there captain. so dont kid your self kid. and 27 other teams would trade there #1 plus a player for kipper....so dont get your hate on to far there girl. part of being a fan and hating the other guys is the understanding of the other team.
kipper isnt even the best goalie to wear the flaming c....wait till he lifts the cup for that babe. so doll dont get your facts twisted.
and preds vs winsg would be a good macth up preds macth up well aginst the wings. why not drop the game?

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/4/2008 11:40:48 PM | Good thing there's smart folks out there that can figure out complicated stuff:
Senators can finish anywhere from sixth to eighth, and will open the playoffs on the road against either Pittsburgh, Montreal, Carolina or Washington.
Bruins, close the season Saturday night against Buffalo, can finish as high as fifth or as low as eighth. Could open on the road against any playoff team in the East other than Ottawa or Philadelphia.
Flyers finish the season Sunday against Pittsburgh and could finish as high as the No. 6 seed.
Strangers finish the regular season Sunday in Jersey. A regulation win over the Devils moves New York into the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and sets up a first-round matchup with New Jersey.
New York could also face Devils as the fifth-seeded team or fall to sixth, which would pit the Strangers against the Southeast Division champion - Washington or Carolina. ----------------------

I think I missed the boat on my east picks, not to mention having two clubs from the same division 1 2 :
1.Strangers 2.Pens 3 . Canes 4. tampa 5. Devils 6 Flyers 7 Leafs 8(tie) Ottawa
9(tie) Habs 10 (tie)Thrashers 11. Caps 12. Boston 13.Sabres 14. Islanders 15. Panthers

Maybe next decade... maybe next century?
Did Bell get anything for that vicious elbow on Alfredson the other night?
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 9:14:41 AM | | I don't know why anybody is worrying about the east. The strongest divisions and the best hockey this year has come out of the west, and the sleepers in the playoffs could be Minnesota or Anaheim. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 9:33:08 AM | """...I don't know why anybody is worrying about the east. The strongest divisions and the best hockey this year has come out of the west."""
It's been that way for probably a decade now that the west has higher calibre hockey. But, the east has won 3 of the last 4 Cups in spite of this. -------------- Leaf trolling again kaos? Must be a slow day for you. Alfie was busy watching his shot. Maybe they'll suspend for a clean open ice hit once the NHL decides to take a legitimate look at Chris Neil. How come Neil walks away from these scott free? But you want Bell to be penalized for a clean open ice hit?

Nothing wrong with that hit of Bell's.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 9:53:30 AM | Sly I don't know what the heck you are talking about regarding other hits. I simply asked a question.
They replayed it many times last night on "Off the Record", but as I was sitting in an Edmonton bar I did not here the discussion nor did I see the game the night before. I don't know what the outcome of that hit was. Did anyone go after Bell did he get a penalty?. It was a blind side elbow to the head.
I referee a lot of hockey and I am extremely subjective. I saw that hit 10 times last night and I saw elbowing every time. I would have awarded a Major for elbowing.
I don't care if it was the Leafs or the Puce Puppy Dogs, elbowing is elbowing!
Did he get a penalty on the play?
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 10:13:11 AM | Nope. No penalty called. TSN's changed their website a bit. Only 4 minutes of OTR from yesterday looks to be available unless I'm not looking in the right place.
The panel thought the hit was legit except for the big chubby guy with the black hair and glasses. But all he did was slam Bell''s character for being a drunk and a boozer and a loozer at life and Landsberg had to settle him down and tell him he was being offensive and to just answer the question. I thought for a minute their he was gonna get tossed from the show.
The Next Question segment was with ex- Sen jason York and he lobbied on Bells behalf suggesting that no coach wants his player not to finish his check. He felt the hit was clean and fair but a real hard hit. I only say I'm surprised that there wasn't a penalty because of the chutzpah stuff the league DOES call. I was listening to the game on the Ottawa network and of course they were going insane. but i did agree with both of the commentators remarks to the effect, that you know, they call all this bullshit kind of stuff like moving the guys stick off your frame and getting called for holding the stick, and sometimes mysterious and phantom holding calls and stuff like that.
I didn't think the hit was bad. It reminded of the Lindross hit from Stevens. He had his head down in open ice inside the leaf zone on the follow thru from the shot while he watched his shot. He got clobbrered no doubt about it. But me, I don't see them calling half this stuff anymore. Seems the league likes to see guys heads go flying thru the air. Leafs have taken a number of those this year that were never called.
I didn't think it was a foul.
ps No Bell didn't really suffer any retribution for it, but Mccabe got pummelled later as well as John Pohl as somehow they both ended up getting involved in skirmishes later. For some reason nobody ripped Bell's cage off which is probably what I would have thought of doing if someone had laid out my captain, especially a guy like Alfie, who plays such a large role for that club. . Maybe refracture that eyesocket bone again for him. Meszaros or redden immediately went to bell and slammed him a bit up against the glass but nothing more than that really. I had the same injury Bell has. Got it from a high elbow. Around 82.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 10:21:20 AM | Stevens hit Lindros with the shoulder. Bell's hit was with the elbow elbow. Big difference. The elbow wasn't out far but it is all that made contact. I have seen much worse but it was bad. I would have called it five with no suspension. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 10:28:20 AM | Stevens Hits Lindros http://youtube.com/watch?v=16Z7-XRPcrw
I dunno. Both plays, the elbow sort of coils or recoils out from the body after the hit. Kind of a natural follow thru on the body motion. Borderline elbow at best on both, but to me they were both the shoulder to start and as the guy reels from the impact the elbow is there close to the head and body as the player goes down from the hit. Thus really making both hits look a bit like elbows when in fact they didn't need the elbows to lay either guy out because both guys were coming across in the rails with their heads turned toward the play and not seeing the oncoming player.
I've seen way worse not get called.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 10:51:19 AM | I just looked at the Lindros hit and yes I would say elbowing.
The Bell hit is clearly an elbow. Look at the replay here. It's all elbow.

Why does Bell have the mask on? The Toronto homers calling this game are annoying. Millen is the worst.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 11:06:32 AM | Actually Millen is scathing on the leafs most nights. He rants big time on all their mistakes and makes a point of replaying them over and over again ad nauseum. He's usually quite the critic.
Bell got his eyesocket broken back in jan i think. i think it was Ruutu of the Pens. I might be getting that one confused with when Ruutu landed about 20 straight head noogies to Tucker. For the next month Tucker had his KEWL ball cap pulled down low on his face for interviews. You could tell he sustained some memories from Ruutu.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRiLdkOI-KA&feature=related
It was Malone that broke Bell's eyesocket in the same game: Ryan Malone vs. Mark Bell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A6M3uCwkFw
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 4/5/2008 11:23:08 AM | I just think Millen is brutal.
He makes many mistakes and even when the replay clearly shows he is wrong(as with the Bell hit) he never corrects himself.
