| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/9/2008 4:59:47 PM | you do relize that bert is younger then nolan right?
You do realize Bert plays more like Ernie now?
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/9/2008 9:01:32 PM | and thats why the 1 year 1.9 mill contract. its a prove what you can still do kind of deal.
he is lighter then he was last season. sutter isnt asking him to score 40 more like 20 and get 40 points.
im more exicted about cammi coming in and tangs and juice leaving then anything.
flames were lacking a player thats good in frount of the net, bert is pretty damn good. better putting him in frount then using dion for that. rather have dion on the point.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/10/2008 5:39:15 PM | I figure Bert/Ernie for 10 goals and 20 assists. Have fun with that one in your pool choice. He was on a downward spiral even before the Moore incident. He's done like dinner as are the Flames with the desperate signing of him. | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/10/2008 7:10:07 PM | the moore incident is so boring now, come on give it a rest.
think what you want but at 1.9 mill 10 goals and 20 assists is still a good deal.
draper gets paid more and yet had only 9 goals and 8 helpers
you look at any 1.9 million players and they all sit around that much, i dont get your point? ohh loo at the flames they are looking at worst of getting value of the contract?
bert is 33 years old, lighter in better shape then he has ever been in his career. bert is exicted about playing here, iggy is happy to have bert here. like him or not the flames just added to there team big in cammi and bert for tanguay and juice going out.
conroy takes a massive home town discount langkow takes a discount reggie is on one of the best contracts in the nhl (excluding entry leval deals lol) iggy and dion both on discount contracts
funny how the players dont know as much as kaos though, he seems to think he is more hockey smart then guys that do it for a job. people are coming to calgary, staying there becouse they want to play here and they want to win here. they belive in sutter, keenan and the captain.
but hey kaos i guess thats why your paid so high to write about hockey......or the inside info you have...
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/10/2008 8:40:11 PM | lol
Smack... Draper is one of the best penalty killers in the game. One of the best face off men in the game and he does all this on the best team in hockey. There is a reason they are the best team in hockey and it's because of quality players like Draper. Bertuzzi adds nothing ziltch, nada.
I gave up on Bertuzzi when he built that atrocious fence around his home in Kitchener(which I have seen). He's a selfish player and damaged goods.
smack don't get me wrong I like Calgary's team...just not for the same reasons as you. I like that Detroit can whip up on them every couple of years or so.
smack it's time for you to become a Red Wing fan. Come on you can cheer for an American team.
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/11/2008 11:41:56 AM | bert adds a strong powerforward that can help on the powerplay, even if thats just standing infrount of the goalie.
selfish players dont work out to drop weight, wouldnt sign to play for keenan.
yeah the wings sure whipped on us in 04 when we shut you out games 5 and 6. you must be getting old as your memory seems to be failing you.
you dont become a fan kaos. its in your blood, its that pride and passion for the city i was born, and the game i love. ive never been to detroit, ive never lived there. never tasted the culture. i do what the city wide feeling, passion, power, and what its like to truly be part of something bigger then a game though. 2004 and the mile was nothing short of magic, a special time of any flames fans life that will never be forgotten and will never be the same. i pity other fans, even fans of teams with more cups they will never feel that.
go flames go in sutter we trust bert comeback player of the year 08/09
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/11/2008 7:39:47 PM | That's cool smack. Not every one loves hockey. Bert and Ernie (Bert & Sutter) for Prime Minister! | |
|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/16/2008 2:42:17 PM | Well have to tip my hat and hand it to our provincial rivals down the highway if they pull this one off. Reports have Murray pulling the trigger on what should be a good deal for the Senaturds. 3 way deal with LA and Chicago. Gerber goes to LA along with Meszaros and coming back to Ottawa from Chicargo is the Bhulin wall and either Cam Barker or Brent Seabrook.
Nice deal. Chicargo gets Anze Kopitar which fills out their starting 6 forwards and should give them a high octane offence this season. Sens give up a shaky starting goaler and a somehwat overrated young d-man for a goaler that's actually backstopped a club to a Cup as well as one of two blue chip blueliners. Kopitar's a good one but no one ever sees him playing out in LA, but wow, either of those two defencemen coming out of Chicago are both good ones. Both are top 2 defencemen, but they'll probably want Barker who is more in line with quarterbacking the power play..
Persistence breaks down the resistance. murray's been after Khabibulin for over a year now. Looks like he's finally going to land him.

|
| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/16/2008 4:41:19 PM | Oh I would love it if Gerber got moved and it wouldn't hurt my feelings to have Khabibulin on my Ottawa Senators.... Nice deal for Chicago also....I thought when the got Huet and paid him the $$ they did that they wern't going to keep Khabibulin...
I think LA gets the raw end of this 3 way....
Damn I hope this happens

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/18/2008 4:36:13 AM | I can't wait till the Mighty Mighty Wings visit NC to play the Candy-Canes it is going to be awesome!
I've seen the Wings at the Joe and I could not believe the feeling I got when I walked in there and saw the statue of Gordie, Man I still get chills thinking about it. I also saw them last year when I was on vacation in Minnesota (they won and that is all that matters).

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/21/2008 3:49:24 AM | Has anyone heard anything about Ottawa trading with Chicago and LA with Khabibulin coming to Ottawa, Kopitar to Chicago and Mezaros's and ? to LA...
Some one in an earlier thread mentioned it and since thats the only time I've even heard of it..........so just wondering....anyone know anything about the possibility of this happening?

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/21/2008 10:36:12 AM | | i am not a wings fan either.that being said i do believe god is.lol.i have said it before,if you are going to model your franchise around another orginization, detroit is the standaed.the biggest thing they project is lack of ego.there scouting staff works together to find the nright player.one person doesnt recieve the credit.this is the same for the players.you nnever hear a player on there team projecting themselve as being more important than the other.all their players start on the fourth line and work their way up.you have to be able to apply your game to all aspects of the team.if you look at how they developed player like hudler and franzen, you start to realize that those players would not have achithe same success on other team.this is what seperates them from the rest of the league. | |

That would be a horrible trade for LA. It was originally suggested by a complete moron who likes to pretend he's an insider.
Holland is the best GM in hockey. He listens to his scouts and his assistants, and let's people do their jobs. He rarely makes a bad trade or overpays for anyone, and when he does he's not afraid to admit it was a mistake and fix it. They draft kids who have time to develop at their own pace and won't force a kid into the lineup before he's ready. The Wings tradition allows them to tell players to check their egos at the door, and having 2 hockey legends like Howe and Lindsay in the Joe almost everyday helps that along.
Sasquatch adds nothing but a big body anymore. $1.9 mil for 30 points to a guy who doesn't play good defense, can't skate, and isn't much of a fighter anymore is way too much, especially when he'll miss at least 20 games because his back hurts. At least now he'll be closer to his wild cousins.
|

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/21/2008 12:28:04 PM | msg 6467 grey area:"""...And an occasional (though sometimes a tad longwinded ) bit of knowledgeable input..."""
Thank you kindly for the compliment grey. Sometimes i post deliberately long posts so as not to have to fend off the anklebiters that don't have the attention span or whatever to read longer posts....there's even threads started about folks not willing to read longer posts, so we confuse them with long posts and then they go away...lol -------------- msg6468: passion:"""...redwings...scouting staff works together to find the nright player.one person doesnt recieve the credit.this is the same for the players.you nnever hear a player on there team projecting themselve as being more important than the other.all their players start on the fourth line and work their way up.you have to be able to apply your game to all aspects of the team..."""
And these are just a few of the reasons why it's absolutely foolish for someone to want, or advocate, that their team finish last in order to draft some 16 or 17 year old to 'supposedly' carry you to the Cup. Just can never get my head around folks that think it's a good thing to be the worst at your profession. Wings didn't win their first Cup till over ten years after Yzerman signed on. So to waste a year to grab a pimply faced kid expecting him to carry you to the promised land is, for lack of a better word, just retarded. IMO. One player seldom wins a Cup on his own. Not even the great One. Hell, Pens had probably two of the top 5 players in the world on their club and they didn't win. They got beaten by a T-E-A-M. And a darn good team it was too. One of the best clubs in the finals in a long long time. 98 Wings were comparable to this years squad when it comes to team concepts.

msg6469:"""...That would be a horrible trade for LA. It was originally suggested by a complete moron who likes to pretend he's an insider..."""
Absolute dumbness for LA to pull the trigger on this deal. They need some blueline help and they need to solve their goaltender issues, but not worth the price of a Kopitatr in my opinion. It has to be nothing more than a rumour since i've never seen a trade like that posted a full week in advance of it having been consummated. If LA trades away Kopitar for Meszaros and Gerbil they should take the LA GM out of his job. Kopitar's an awesome hockey player.
Rumor Roundup: Will Kopitar move? http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/17289-Rumor-Roundup-Will-Kopitar-move.html
Three-way deal in works? Sens, Kings, 'Hawks talking trade http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Ottawa/2008/07/16/6171651-sun.html
This type of rumour-mongering story would be typical of say a Bruce Garrioch out of Ottawa, but usually Don Brennan is more legitimate in his writing. Only the Ottawa papers see this as a win win win trade. Everyone else sees it as a win win for Chicargo and definitely the Sens. I still find it hard to believe Hawks are willing to let go one of those two defencemen, but maybe with the Campbell signing they're setting themselves up to avoid cap issues down the road. I would imagine maybe both Barker and Seabrook will be on our Olympic squad come 2010. Most Sens fans i talk to have no clue who either of these two are. They figure they're just throw-in defencemen to go with the prize of Khabibulin. --------
msg6470:"""...I am a Los Angeles Kings fan. Does anyone know a good support group?"""
Tough division to be in. Some of the signings last summer didn't pan out the way they might have. But you've got rid of Crawford as coach which was a smart move. You have Frolov, Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Jack Johnson, OSullivan and now Drew Doughty. Go find yourself a half decent goaler and another journeyman defenceman to replace the loss of Rob Blake and you'll be competitive with that core of youngsters. Don't give up Kopitar though to get the d-man. Slowly but surely your club is getting both better and younger. ..and you're nowhere even near the salary cap floor yet, let alone the ceiling. There'll be more LA signings as the summer moves on.

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/21/2008 1:26:35 PM | TIC- TSN is reporting.... The league is actually as we speak involved in top secret meetings with Mike Illitchy owner of the Detroit Red Wings. The aim of the meetings is to convince Mr. Illitchy to lend his Red Wing management team for the betterment of the NHL. The league would then use these men to prop up some of the lessor lights in the league (L.A. Florida, Toronto, Calgary). The men the leagues wants Illitchy to put on loan.. Jim Nill, Steve Yzerman, Scotty Bowman, and Jimmy D.
The league has actually agreed, in negotians to meet Mr Illitchy's one demand. That demand is that all the teams that receive a Red Wings management person to run their club must agree to add Red to their names for the duration of the contract. So this fall we will see the the L.A. Red Kings, Calgary Red Flames and the Toronto Red Maple Leafs.
Gary Betterman League President was quoted as saying "if Mr. Illitchy asked for it to be called the NHRL, National Hockey Red League I would agree"!

| Hockey anyone? Posted: 7/21/2008 2:25:13 PM | | slysterling, thanks for the reply and comments. It's been a long time since the Kings were competitive and the rumors about Kopitar being traded for a d-man have been making my head spin. They do have a good, young core. They haven't had a decent goaltender since, come to think of it, I can't remember. | |

maybe the wings could use the leaves and calgarys fan base so they could sell out more then just in the finals. but hey maybe the wings could move to a real market and sell out some games to make some cash.
on ice one of the best products in sports, fan base right up there with womens basketball.
i thought the flames were going in the same direction as the wings thats 1 final 3 chokes and now we are going to go on a run, pattern seems pretty close to the wings although only 1 of those 3 first round defeats we were the favs to win.
2002 wings win stanley cup 2003 wings-first round out 2004 wings out 2nd round 2006 wings 1st round out 2007 wings semi finals 2008 stanely cup 2009-2nd round out
flames 2004-stanley cup finals 2006-first round 2007-first round-new coach 2008 first round-new coach- cancer in the locker room. 2009-stanley cup champs
