It's dubious at best to label any tobacco user as un-athletic. Drug use or the lack thereof is incidental at best in determining what sports are more althetic than the next. Severe acute or chronic usage can affect athleticism for certain, but it's inaccurate to say "If you smoke/drink, then you aren't an athlete."

Bryan Fogarty was a promising hockey player...who drank his way out of the league, but it doesn't mean he wasn't an athlete.

Yeah, just havin' a bit of fun feeding the trolls. post 7581 (at least I was)
In all honesty though, I'd be willing to bet that almost all the guys here and likely most of the gals too, enjoys many many hours of playing the game when they were young at very least. I will admit that it's a bit laid back for my entertainment likes though, but couldn't/wouldn't honestly accuse the players of being less than genuine athletes. I know I'd be eating their dust in a footrace of any sort, and my arm likely wouldn't even make it to the 3rd inning if I had to try and use it a fraction as much as them.

Wow... have you guys all had time to remove the hooks from your mouths yet?
Talk about reeling 'em in!!!!!

My response was a touch of sarcasm in response to Post 7581. You guys want to discuss baseball, go to a baseball thread.

Yeah right. The thing about sarcasm....it's funnier when it's over the top. And message boards are a poor medium for it. Besides I'd wager that you meant what you said and it's funny that you sort of look down your nose at baseball as an athletic sport while your screenname is "ratherbgolfing" . Yeah golfers really give decathletes a run for their money on the athleticism scale. Gotta be more man boobs in the PGA than you'd find at a transgender convention.

Hmmmm. The plot thickens a bit on the Coyotes front. It sounds like bids from folks thus far have been unacceptable, with one filed in bankrupcy court last Friday still pending. (as far as I can find anyhoo) An auction for those wanting to keep the team in Phoenix will be held on Aug 5. Sounds like the bankruptcy judge then rules if the bid is satisfactory to the team's creditors, and if not, the team'll go back on the auction block Sept. 10 to ALL bidders, even ones who wanna move the team, like Balsillie did. (I still hafta chuckle at a name ending with "silly")

In the end, creditors will receive $140M to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix, rather than $210M (from Balsillie) to move them.
Maybe the judge should ask all those owed money which deal they prefer?
It's a joke of a franchise and will remain that way as long as they insist on playing a winter sport in the desert.

Farewell to a great one.

With training camps opening this weekend and no NHL team calling it looks as if Chris Chelios' career in the NHL is over. 25 years, 3 Stanley's and 3 Norris Trophy's.
He may still play minor pro but the NHL may be done.
I was fortunate to play against him in college and he was as fun to watch then as he was in his NHL career.

Next stop for Chelios the Hockey Hall of Fame.

First ballot HOFer to be sure. The guy is a freak of nature. At 46, he is still one of the most physically fit hockey players in the world.

Hey Rather...the real creditor's of the Coyotes actually like the NHL deal better. Of the $210M offer, $100M was going to Gerry Moyes (the former owner) and $15M was going to Gretks (part owner). That only leaves $90M to go to the real creditors on the line for the Coyotes fiasco!
