It lets the person express themselves without interruption thus being able to share the reasons why while giving the other a chance to absorbe it without embarassement (nothing worse than being dumped in a public place especially if it is an emotional break up).
It is only cruel when they block you from replying as you really should be able to have your say in return... whether that reply is a vent, a retaliation, a thank you for for sparing me the trouble of dumping you first, or a I wish you all the best ... the reply email helps the person being dumped find closure.
It is never easy to tell someone you care about that you don't feel that special connection, or that the feelings have faded, or that your long term path is heading in a different direction. Obviously you were important enough that he wanted to tell you rather than just disappearing to leave you guessing or avoiding you which would have been worse. Most people tend to avoid the other person and just hope that along the way they will get the message and stop calling... at least an email is more up front and gentle. | |

Posted: 6/5/2006 10:15:23 PM | It happened to me twice. The first one did it by telling me on MSN messenger while we were chatting. (Which really hurt that he couldn't say it to my face.) Then the new guy asked me what happened with the ex. I didn't want to talk about it but he got it out of me... including the part about how it hurt. Then, the next day, he text messaged my cell phone to tell me we shouldn't see each other anymore!

tho i'd have to agree with jaya4cd, doing it by some sort of medium is better than not saying anything at all. leaving a person in limbo, not knowing, just wondering and trying to guess at things... thats very cruel. keeping a person guessing is very ungroovy and has always left me very bitter towards the individual doing it. there's this song: "...it's the words we dont say that get in the way"... i agree. | |

I was devastated, got it about an hour before i left my office for the day, and took a very long time to get over it. I couldn't believe that someone i was going to marry would do that to me.
