Scuba, and what of: Oil & Israel? Non-factors to you?

- And, Dmotz, glad to see you back again, middle finger and all, old boy, if only for a little comic relief. The Christian Science Monitor story is a cute piece, and I am glad to see you recognise that others should do your writing for you, but their story really misses the point. Sure, Marines are people too, and there is no doubt that many of them are good and honest and caring, and ya, I'll bet they came back changed by the country. Travel, any kind of travel, is a mind-expanding, ignorance-busting experience any way you care to slice it.

- But, that is not really their mission is it? To try to put a "gentler, kinder" face on WAR is disingenuous in the extreme and I am disappointed to learn that the Monitor is now engaging in such trite propaganda. War is war, and no tonnage of sugar laden Oreo cookies can gloss over that fact. I used to work for Halliburton, but that did not blind me to the inconsistencies and outright lies that we were constantly fed by top management. They loved to talk about all the good they were doing over there (like an 80% increase in profitability at KBR 1st year of the war) but then again, over forty of our truck drivers had been killed just trying to do their jobs, and the company did not like to talk so much about what they were doing for the families of those men (who all had to sign releases and waivers of liability to the company before going over) back home. If the best the U.S. can claim to have accomplished in Iraq is to have spread around a few cookies to little kids and rebuilt a few public buildings they demolished in the first place (along with many innocent children inside) then it is high time they left.

"And what point is it your having trouble with....The point of my middle finger in your direction or the fact that you do not like the truth......."

Ah Dmotz, aka "The Voice of Reason" strikes again. Arrrgghh! I am cut to the bone by his rapier wit and the depth of his insites......shock and awe there......man, you wouldn't know the truth if it slammed into your head at 2,500 feet per second. This mind you, from a guy who thinks it's funny to post a photo of a sniper kitten pointing a high-powered rifle, presumably out his bedroom window.......and these guys can get hawgflogger licenses to pedal their tricycles around on the same public roads as the rest of us....ai yi yi.

My point? Ahem, I guess I will have to spell it out for you old boy; The point is, the U.S. has no damn business in Iraq, should quit terrorising and murdering the population and get the hell out of it, posthaste.

- There was a good counter to the Christian Science Monitor crap last night on the CBC's "The Passionate Eye". It was a documentary about a guy called Scott Taylor, ex CAF, and now a journalist who was kidnapped in Iraq last year. He was taken, tortured physically and emotionally and almost decapitated several times, wrote a book about it.

- He was invited back by some marine colonel (who apparently can read well enough to know a good prospect when he sees one) in a place called Tal Afar so that he could be "inbedded" with some of his boys, or so they told him. But they didn't let him out on patrol, instead he had to hang around Camp Whizbang (on the outskirts of what is left of Tal Afar) cooling his heels and waiting for the call to go out. There was a suicide bombing in town one day when he was there which they wouldn't let him cover, citing some B.S. about safety. But they found a use for him. He got to speak about his torture/capture experiences in some big tent in front of a thousand marines - and that is all he got to do. It was obvious that he was used in the army's propaganda war against their "enemy" - the people of Iraq. They showed the nice neat little camp, with hundreds of air-conditioned trailers line up in rows, fully air-conditioned, running hot and cold water, DVD players, the works. The guys go out on patrol during the day and come home at night to the camp. Taylor coined an apt phrase for it: "Hotel Warfare". Bizarre.

- Oh, and fairy-tales about marines protecting children with their lives against unknown cars? The documentary showed pictures of one case in Tal Afar where a car was coming down the main street, as cars are wont to do, and the trigger-happy boys from Camp Whizbang decided they needed to start shootin! They killed both parents of what had been a nice little family, right in front of three small, terrified little kids in the back seat. As the now burning car lurched to a halt right in front of these heroes the poor bleeding kids started spilling out the back doors. This is a real series of pictures, and I have no words to fit my revulsion at these dispicable acts.

- In another case, they showed photos of a young Iraqi doctor and his family. The guy was going to a local hospital in his car one day. While sitting stationary at a checkpoint, some marine didn't like the way the guy looked and instantly blew his head off. No bombs, no nuthin' in the car. Just a sickening berserk fear and loathing of all things Iraqi and its people. His grieving wife said: "They could have shot him in the arm, the legs, but the head - you don't survive that. They are killers." Amen.

- So, Dmotz, in the end you are right, I do not like the truth. The truth is that America has managed to create a living hell over there for anybody who's "Agin us, not with us" - meaning just about everyone who is not an American in uniform. God Bless America.

It's funny how people think that if Bush were not President, we would not be in this situation. How if a Democrat were in power, the world would be a better place.....*tap**tap**tap*....is this thing on? Seriously, if a Democrat were in power, the infighting would still be going on....except Dems would be defending and Repubs would be criticizing, instead of the other way around...as for Iraq, who knows? Can't predict what a politician will do when a situation is thrust upon him or her, no matter what the party affiliation might be. Seems that if we put into place some Dem philosophies and some Repub philosophies, we might get a happy medium.....but that would make too much sense.

Can you say "DUH??!" Of COURSE the world would be a better place is Bush were not in the White House. It would DEFINITELY be a safer place!!!

^^^^Wow, I'm sorry...did I give the impression that I was "blindfolded" by asking that question? I didn't realize that people were blind to ask questions that might make sense...we should just make fun of people for asking questions that don't show a party affiliation one way or the other, huh? I'm blinded if I don't see it your way? You dumba**, that is exactly what I am talking about. All you did in trying to be funny (or stupid, which is really what you accomplished) was prove my point. You say your way is better. Someone else says their way is better. How about combining the two ways and see what you get? According to you, it is better than what we have now. And according to someone else, it would be better than your way. Oh, and here's an idea....think before you speak. You have no idea what I believe in, and don't fool yourself into thinking you do, dips**t.

For those of you who are supportive of the "war on terror" is have this question. How is it that we have to wage a treasury-draining generation long(and dont kid yourselves...it will be atleast a generation long maybe more) war against "terrorists" halfway around the world? Here's a thought...how about having a president that actually reads his fuking security breifings instead of fishing(Augast 2001) and makes efforts to i donno....maybe make airports, railways, and ports safe before getting "attacked" I know...I know Im just another america-hating lib...

from the Badbadbiker: "I have never claimed to be the voice of reason world......Everyone knows I am far from it....All I do is disprove your lies! And then you go on the personal attack! Just repaying the favor!
This war needs to continue untill all the militants are dead...."

- ya, good idea, let's start with the likes of you. You have not disproven one single fact I have written on this site, all you do is to spew vitriol ad nauseum and present no facts of your own, let alone reasoned, balanced argument (way beyond you I realise, unfair to ask of a simpleton really). The CBC documentary showed PHOTOGRAPHS of the events they were talking about - not lies, documented fact. And as for banning people, let's start with you. Personally I find the fact that your ilk can even get on a site like this offensive. Moderators, how about it?: Are offesive gestures, directed at any and all from the photos on ones profile acceptable on this site? How about a ruling on that one? I find such behaviour highly offensive, ignorant and unacceptable in any public venue just as is nudity and other distasteful practices.

- As for being an anti-American bigot, that's great coming from an Anti-Everyone bigot. As a close follower of my posts you know that I am not. But just for the record I will state it again: I have many, many good friends and acquaintances and people I correspond with regularly in the States. That does not mean I have to suffer in silence corrupt, bankrupt American foreign policies. As a great parliamentarian once said: "All that is required for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing". Now I know that some of you will leap upon that in glee thinking you've go me now! Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm sure many Americans honestly believe they should be in Iraq "combatting terrorism and bringing truth justice and freedom to the Iraqi people". They are sadly, deliberately and systematically, misinformed. I see on the news tonight that the L.A. Times (a respected American paper) ran an article on how the U.S. Army has now taken to paying certain Iraqi "newspapers" to print rosy articles on their activities - ie: pure propaganda (what is the Iraqi word for "Pravda"?). This from the country that is always talking about a hands-off attitude towards the media and "freedom of the press". But I guess one shouldn't be surprised given the stunning flood of propaganda being directed at the home audience, which apparently a lot of you have been listening to exclusively.

Just another reminder folks: it's NOT a "war": it's an illegal invasion and occupation.

(Oh yes; could somebody please see about getting mdelong some dietary fibre...or a good laxative? He seems a bit out of sorts.)

- good point Grog. Conducting a war usually means fighting someone more or less on a par with yourself, ie: picking on someone your own size. No this is more like the Germans walking into Luxembourg to "liberate" them of their freedom and lives.

I'd like to know what standard you want to use to say it is.

Congress approved military action in Iraq which means that Bush commited no crime by sending troops in.

Spare me the "Bush manipulated the intel or lied about wmd" bullshit because

1) he didn't

and

2) he didn't

If you look back at the history and the acts of agression iraq has shown toward US, we had any number of valid reasons to take military action!

"you can't be serious. You can't! have you been in a bubble for the past 12 years?"

Oh, but I AM serious. Could you please give me even ONE example of Iraq committing an act of aggression against the U.S.? (Just to clarify; make that an unprovoked act of aggression, as opposed to retalliation.)

Eagerly awaiting your reply...
