^^^ I agree 100%! That drives me absolutely insane. Those people need to learn how to be civilized!

Having said that, what also drives me mad is people who will put their lives (and the lives of others) at risk trying to keep those queue jumpers out of the line. Those people need to learn how to be grown-ups.

When people see a big line up and a sign board that says lane ends and they try and squeeze in at the last minute

I'm sorry but that is not jumping the queue if there are 2 lanes and one comes to an end due to contstruction or something. I call that good traffic management. Why try to merge about 200 feet before you have too?
Now, if they were in a lane that was suppose to go straight(see Barrington/Dartmouth bridge lanes) and then tried that, I would agree.

For one I don't put my life or any others at risk by preventing them from queue jumping ahead of me(but thanks for the insinuation there about me not being a grownup for the mere fact that I don't always allow poeple to jump queue).

Secondly if everyone merged when they seaw the sign.. the traffic would flow a lot better, instead of stop and go of one for one... you see the orange lane drop marker that tells you merge as soon as possible not speed up and jump queue..it's to tell you the lane is ending so merge as soon as you can.(Once upon a time Iworked traffic control so I know these signs and how they are to be used and "obeyed").

Also another pet peeve is people talking down of others when they don't actually know how that person goes about things(don't always jump tot he default conclusion inwhich the answer is always bad.. ).

Boy rooster, I sure wish you would quote who you are referring too as I just removed a rant due to thinking you were referring to my comments.
However, I must disagree with this:

Secondly if everyone merged when they seaw the sign.. the traffic would flow a lot better, instead of stop and go of one for one..

No matter where they merge it will slow traffic down as it will be one on one earlier than when the lane ends.

I must say though that I find it hard for lives to be at risk when merging vehicles are traveling about 10/20 kms an hour!!!!

I think he was actually talking about me, leafs, because he said...

For one I don't put my life or any others at risk by preventing them from queue jumping ahead of me(but thanks for the insinuation there about me not being a grownup for the mere fact that I don't always allow poeple to jump queue).

Thing is I wasn't insinuating anything, I was stating an opinion about how I see drivers out there who do this, because I was once run right off the road at the lane onto the MacKay bridge by someone who was racing to try to keep someone else out of the line. So Rooster, maybe you should not assume that people are talking about you.

Sheesh.

But since you brought it up, here's the thing: why bother trying to keep people out of the line? What possible difference could it make to your life if someone sneaks in in front of you? Are people that petty that they're willing to risk causing an accident? You think they're gonna slow you down for 0.53 seconds or something?

And don't tell me it's the "principle of the thing". If you try to keep someone out of line, they're not going to think "Oh my. That nice young man just reminded me that I really shouldn't jump the queue." What they're going to think is "Asshole!", and they're going to continue to try to jump the queue.

Also, what if that person is from out of town, and didn't know the lane ended? What if that person's wife is in the hospital? There are a million what if's. And yes, maybe that person is just an asshole who likes to jump the queue... and yes, it pisses everyone off. But is it really worth ruining your (or someone else's) day over?

So I will say it again. And no, Paranoid Pete, this is not directed at you. It's directed at the idiot who ran me off the road, cost me thousands of dollars in repairs, and just drove off like nothing happened, all because he was trying to keep someone else out of the lane: Those people need to grow up.

/end rant.

Here's my opinion on merging:

If two lanes are merging into one, the car that is ahead of the other car should be given the right-of-way. Even if the car that is ahead is the one merging.

If both cars are side-by-side, and at speed, the car that is required to merge into the other lane should slow down and yield to the other car.

If two lanes of traffic are crawling along at 10 or 20 kph, and the lanes merge, it is simply one-on-one.

Anyone who deliberately accelerates to prevent a car from merging is an aggressive driver and, quite frankly, an idiot. I've seen it happen many times where one car is slightly ahead and the other car puts the pedal to the metal to make sure the other car can't merge. An accident is very narrowly avoided, in most cases.

One of my pet peeves is when someone is driving 90 kph in a 100 zone, until they reach a passing lane and then they speed up to 110 kph while you are trying to pass. At the end of the passing lane, they again slow down to 90 kph.

These people fall into the same category as the ones who accelerate to keep others from merging. ie: IDIOTS.

LOl I agree as well Logan..thata nd they pass you only to slow down..LOL wtf is up with that.

Secondly
Ok for the whole merging and one on one thingy, if there's no grid lock then megring as soon as you can will actually speed up the driving more so then stopping for one on one. theres' pleenty fo warning to merge but peopel wait tillt he last second and then it becomes one on one.

Thirdly: 1cc I do apologise as I took it as you aiming that post at me, as it appeared you used different text for the word "those"... insead of using regular text , you singled out that word(I think in itilics) and by doing so again I took it as a directed comment at me. It's one of the downfalls of net-chat, you can't always be 100% sure of how someone meant it with plain emotionless text.

It's ok Gin. The website he was referring to was deleted from his message. He was talking about face book, and the invitations to install applications.

I have to agree that sometimes it gets annoying, but at the same time, it shows that your friends are thinking of you for that split second it takes to put a check in the box next to your name.

Pet peeves
- people who are incapable of using the two letters that make 'u' you, and 'r' are, etc.
- people who are incapable of using proper grammar and syntax to put a sentence together.
- people who are incapable of differentiating between the similar sounding, but much different in meaning words such as there, their and they're.

People that say they will call you, and don't call.

Or if you are looking for work and the managers tell you they will call people that they are interested in interviewing. And you have to wait, wondering if they will call you.

People who "think" they know how to do your job better than you!

Folks, take a moment the next time you walk into a specific work environment and start spouting off all your "knowledge". The people working there for the most part and I'm referring to the more specialized fields of employment, have years of training and experience. I'm not saying all do..there are some yahoos in every workplace...but for the most part, have some respect and you'll get respect in return!

Drivers that don't realize you're allowed to enter the intersection when turning left and there is oncoming traffic. Quite often they just sit there and wait for the next green light. At least a couple of cars could have turned!!!!

Ok time for another pet peeve!

It really irritates me when I hold the door open for someone and they do not say thank you.
They must think that they are so special that people leap out of no where just to hold the door open for them. Ugh! But I must admit if there are two doors to walk through and they don't say thanks for the first one, the second one shuts in their face.
Is that wrong??

I do the exact same thing!!

I remember when my kids were little, they would say Mommy, that person didnt say thank you
and I'd say no sweetheart- their mother never taught them any manners

Love this thread!!!!!

I used to feel that way about doors but I refuse to let that affect me at all. I might say to you, "You're welcome", regardless of whether you thank me or not. I recall being in a hurry or just lost in my own thoughts and didn't thank the person who did the cursory thing such as holding the door. Oops! Please don't fault me for my imperfection. A smile can go a long way to bringing us back to the present. In fact, I haven't even noticed that happen to me in a long long time.

So, my pet peeve up until last week was people who "camp" in the passing lane on the highway. I'm finally over it!!!!!! I will just pass you on the inside lane if necessary now, if the passing lane is busy. I realize that you aren't really trying to screw up the traffic. Who would do that????? It states in the drivers manual that we're not supposed to camp in the passing lane. I couldn't find where it said that I couldn't pass on the inside lane.

Irritants are everywhere if you let them be. Phooey!!!! Stop and smell the roses.

So if a person is rude for not saying "Thank you" because you got to the door first/held it for them, what does it make you when you close the 2nd door in their face? For me when I hold the door open it's to be nice, not to get a thank you and then be upset that I didn't get one if none was given. Also I've had more young people say Thanks than people my age or older.

Passing lane campers... LOL I'm a passing lane camper but usually I'm the one doing 10-20 over the speed limit, and I have been known to switch lanes when someone is approaching me many car lengths behind if they seem to be catching up to me.

What really bugs me on the Highways though is the people who do 20 below the speed limit and when a passing lane comes up they go to 10 over the speed limit. WHY the jump of 30km's per hour?..lol

I don't do it for a thank you, but if they don't appreciate it, why would I do it twice?
