| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/22/2005 10:17:21 PM | | If my dog or cat were my only source of companionship or at least the main one then it would be as important to me as a human being. But in my life my cat offers me comfert and I enjoy taking care of it, but it does not become the center of my affection as people can be. My cat cannot offer me advice, growth, support, inspiration, excitement, etc as people can so there is no way I would consider it as being as important as a human being. Besides, its hard to feel extreme compassion for something when you arent even of the same species. | |

((in fact, my daughter says I'm a cross between Dharma and Rosanne Barr))~~
I've lived in 5 states including South Dakota, Illinois, Colorado, Missouri and California. I guess I need to quit driving so much, huh>?

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/22/2005 10:57:14 PM | I don't think pets are as important as people, but they come close. I love animals, but I cannot have a pet in this apartment unless I shell out big bucks. I go over to my daughter's house and spoil her children's dogs.
My mother, on the other hand, thinks her cat is more important than her. If the cat is sleeping in her favorite chair, my mother will sit on the couch so as not to disturb her. The last time I visited, I made the mistake of gently moving the cat off the chair, and it hissed at me. Mother told me: "That's what you get for taking her chair."
Some people value their pets more than they do people, even their own families.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/23/2005 2:43:17 PM | A recent phone conversation I had with a lady I made an electronic connection with (but no date yet) drifted into an extreme interest about my pet. I'm wondering: Although I steered the conversation back to us (either about me or her), was this some sort of probe into how I might be considered as a future father?
From a guy: Do women view how a man treats his pet(s) as how he may treat their [future] children? [I don't think that this also works the other way - guys wondering how women treat their pets.] I've never had anyone ever ask me about my pets before (at least not so early in a potential connection).

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/23/2005 3:30:05 PM | | Ok say we had some kind of an epidemic where all animals were getting killed off by some kind of animal disease. Humans were not getting sick. So the scientists would be trying to find a cure for peoples pets. Now say that there was some kind of cat flu disease much like the avian flu and people were getting killed by hundereds of thousands. There would be cats getting put to sleep in a heartbeat to save the humans. Why you may ask, cause there would be no pets only animals on the earth if no cure was researched. Can't have pets without people. So who would be more important pets or people? | |

I mean, I know that they rely on you to feed and care for them, but they also just make you feel good when they hover around you and make you feel like the most special person on earth, especially when you get home from work...
My pet...Newton (Sir Isaac) the cat...

It is unfortunate that in the world we live in our pets can bring more into some of our lives than people.
Health, Happyness and Understanding to you all in the New Year!!

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/26/2005 1:34:42 PM | | I am sorry, it is not my logic. It is the holy Bibles. I agree that is just one of the unfortunate events taking place in our day. It is also unfortunate that we have people with an unbalanced view towards pets don't you agree? That doesn't mean I disrespect animals or people who take very good care of them. God created animals for the sake of humans. Animals can help them do their work and can serve as their companions or pets. They also serve to magnify God's love and wisdom. Surely it is a pleasure to observe the beauty of animals and to learn more about the Creator from a study of their marvelous instinctive wisdom. | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/26/2005 1:38:19 PM | I had a good buddy once who was distraught over the death of his cat. I couldn't understand his intense reaction to his loss at the time but have since come to accept that some people do form powerful connections to their animals and yes, in some cases this can far exceed their capacity to love humans.
For me, I have a vast capicity for loving animals and agree with the idea that they are essentially innocent. I consider them innocent because they lack the ability to choose. In fact, they are really only with us out of circumstances in the vast majority of cases. Leave the door open and Spot is gone for good.
The people I choose to love in this life also choose to be with me and for this reason, no animal could ever replace a loving relationship with a person. By the same token, animals can offer us things that people cannot and they do make a truly wonderful and important addition to a happy life. I'm really glad that my girlfriend has cats...I like to pretend I hate cats but the truth of the matter is that I've fallen in love with them too....damned cats!

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/26/2005 5:46:39 PM | | Animals are great bc they love you unconditionally. When I come home from a bad day at work, the first one to greet me lovingly and ecstatically is my little shih-poo. Adorable little thing who just wants to cuddle for a hug. It really does relieve my blood pressure and makes me realize that simple things can make me happy.... | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/27/2005 8:27:44 PM | | Kenn, I cannot agree with you more.. every summer I'm looking to move somewhere which is why I'm actually thinking about MO. I love it right now however, no bugs.. no heat.. I love fall and winter here in Florida but the summers are just getting horrible. I have 10 acres on the National Forest. I've ridden and camping in the Ocala National Forest before with my horses, it's alot like the Apalachicola National Forest where I am. The Ocala area is nice. | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/27/2005 8:35:34 PM | | Poorgie.... I think the religous part of all your logic should maybe be another thread. Obviously you do not have the same feelings towards animals and pets are most everyone else here on this thread. I think it is time for you to agree to disagree about this. I'm not saying you are wrong or right however, you have stated plenty about animals being just that and not human. As far as the bible goes.. why do people always have to bring the bible into things? I hate people using religion to justify everything they think. The bible was wrote by MEN... I do not think they listened to god as much as they should have when they were writing it. Also, Paganism and native american religions consider animals very important in our life and those religions were here long before your Christians ways! And before you go off on my not being a Christian... I was brought up in a very religious household I just happen to have developed my own beliefs and thoughts on things. I like learning from ALL religions and not focusing on just one belief.... but of course.. this is just my little ole opinion... | |
