Posted: 12/27/2005 9:31:23 PM | hello, bugg65, just want to let you know there is none of a page of the Buddhism teaching that says people can come back as a blade of grass. BUT, all the Buddhish were taught that if you were evil bad people when you were on earth, after you died you would reincarnated as animals for thousands times before you could become a human again. This reincarnation theory is basic fundament of the buddhism.
This is just an information to correct the "blade of grass". I am not about to start any argument or anything new under this thread. So please excuse me.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/27/2005 9:40:52 PM | By the way mesan ((had to shorten it)) I lived 7 miles from the Arkansas border, in a tiny town called Tecumseh, MO. It's a beautiful area, mostly mountainous, but unfortunately very "financially depressed". Mountain Home, Arkansas, which was only about 20 miles away was a really cool city though ((about 30,000 people, I think>?))---I loved it. But, we went broke and had to leave~~~ | |

Not really sure about the buddism religion.. but all religions are of interest to me. I wouldn't want to come back as a buzzard and have to eat road kill I know that so I'm still going to be a good girl while here on earth!!!

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/27/2005 10:20:54 PM | ...Are pets as important as people?...no but they have come along way considering there are now pet hotels, hospitals and even beauty spas....if I could only persuade Jake to retrieve my slippers, get my mail, leave the room if you have to fart, don't leave a trail of water beside his water bowl,no peeing on my on my neighbours lovely garden, bring me the phone, don't bark at every single person who walks in front of the house, find my remote, and most importantly pick-up his own dog shit.....he is my best friend so I can forgive him for not being perfect, just like I have been forgiven for not being a perfect person. What smells? Jake!!! | |

Posted: 12/27/2005 10:25:04 PM | My poor dog, he's so "human", that if I even look at him a certain way he leaves the room with his tail between his legs ((when he's done something he knows he shouldn't have)).. I don't have to say a word, he just knows, just like a guilty child~~

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/27/2005 11:03:09 PM | | Took my dawg to the vet today for his annual checkup and shots. The tab was $148.00. I was told he needed to have his teeth cleaned for an estimated cost of $150.00. I remarked that this dog gets more medical attention than I give myself. Also got me thinking that 20+ million Americans have no health insurance or access to health care. I love and value animals but there's something wrong when we (Americans) are more concerned about the welfare of animals than of children, our elderly and our disabled folk. I've known people who feed their cats shrimp and their dogs steak yet so many people are starving around the world as well as in our own country. Yep, animals are valuable but there's something wrong with this equation. | |

philamon, you know how people judges that if you don't like animal, you are type of people to be avoided. They don't realize it would depend on what country you are from that make a different in the likes and dislikes. In the country where I came from only a few of our people like animals. Some places in the world just don't have the conditions that allow their citizens to care for animals. People there hardly ever get enough food for themselves. One time I was waiting for buses at downtown and overheard 2 people talking, one said to the other: "wow, pigeons walking in downtown streets? They could be our food where we lived". Pets are for North American and other well to do countries not for the poor. To ask the poor are pets as important as people would be equal to big slaps to their faces.

People do not realize how lucky we are to have what all we have and to be able to do what we do. There are people here in our own USA who are starving and without homes. But I still love my babies...

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/28/2005 9:50:31 AM | In my mother land, poor people eat rats, not so poor people eat snakes, dogs, and cats, rich people eat owls and cougars. For this I have to say Western Countries are more compassionate and humanistic.
Our famous dish, Shark's fin soup is to cut off the fins from a live shake, dump it back to the ocean and let them survived by itself. It is very cruel and I don't buy it at all.
It is true that I never had and up to this moment have no wish to hold a cat or a dog, but it doesn't mean that I will ill-treated an animal. Gosh, I won't even go to Superstore and ask them to kill a swimming fish for me for my supper. And yet, this topic is about "PETS" not animals. I should stop here.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/28/2005 5:39:45 PM | Funny mesna~~~ He knows there are certain rules, and I'm serious, I don't say one word, just look at him and he knows. Like, when he runs down the street occasionally and rolls in horse poop or goes next door and eats cat poop ((his 2 biggest delicacies))~~~
I remember when he was a puppy my ex suggested we roll up the "very small" phone book and swat him with that when he was bad. Poor doggie---we had to quit doing that because every time we opened the phone book to look up a number he ran~~~
|
| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/28/2005 7:35:44 PM | | well hells bells.. if you whooped me with a phone book I'd be running to!!! I've started using a fly swatter on my GS puppy... she's like 'huh... what's that for"??? LOL | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/28/2005 8:26:09 PM | Hello people. As you can see from my profile pic, I allow my cat to run loose and shoot at "things". So yes, I believe that pets are as important as people if not more so. (I only said that in case my cat reads this thread). So if anyone has anything negative to say about the importance of pets...you can take it up with my cat. | |
