With most boating accidents, the women and children would be saved first. The sinking of the Titanic was a great example with that. People would place a value of women and children first. Likewise today people still should place women and children first... not animals first then women and children. Anything else would not be the custom.

I think all here know that Joe. You demonstrate compassion and integrity. The majority would help...if at all possible. But for some, they would risk their life for man, woman, child OR animal...that's all.

It is important to keep a balanced view towards pets for the good of all humankind. Even though some humans have a total lack of respect for some animals, they are more important to the human society.

One side of the scale: A fact sheet about pet overpopulation sums up the situation this way: "Living creatures have become throwaway items to be cuddled when cute and abandoned when they become inconvenient. Such disregard for animal life pervades and erodes our culture."

Other side of the scale: Saving your dog instead of a human being. Such disregard for human life will very well do the same and will erode our culture.

Awwwwwww....why did you go and say that? I too believe that a child's life is more important than a man, woman or animal. But, I don't believe that a woman's life is any more valuable than that of a man's life....Ummmm...forget it...lol..tired.

That's all they would have to say. It would be answering my question. But the main point I was trying to get to is the importance part, sometimes we have to decide who to save first.

For example: If I saw a few animals that were someones pets and I saw the owner on that same floor being on fire. I would save the human owner first. So you see, pets can never be as important as people. If I were to save a couple of the owners pets instead of the owner then the pets would not have a caretaker.

Why do we love animals so much? Simple, because they do not put conditions to acceptance. So you oversleep and they get their breakfast 3 hours late.....Do they take it out on you? Yell? Holler? Belittle you? Complain? Well maybe nudge you or meow a bit, but never anything else and they always love you no matter what. They have unconditional love and totally depend on us. They are the innocents of this world, along with children and they matter as much as kids.
Do some people care more about their pets than spouse or kids? I'll bet a lot there are, but there shouldn't be. We should work with our spouse and kids to love the pets the way they should be loved and taken care of.
Can you love a pet too much? I am not sure you can love anything too much, if it is the right kind of love. Never heard of such a thing as too much love. Ever.
Pets are emotional creatures, and love us most when we need it. When was the last time anyone did that for you? My cats are as important to me as my two kids. They are like kids to me, and give me much in return for my love, which is more than I can say for kids these days. I love my children very much, but love my cats just as much.

Thank you, Joe. Apology accepted. I'll apologize to you, as well, for my blanket statement regarding so-called Christians. Perhaps you are one of the few who would back up their words with true actions. I don't know and there's no way to test it out, is there? You must admit, a lot of 'Christians' are guilty of lip service only and in doing so give honest folks a bad reputation. I still stand behind my statement regarding self-preservation, as I do think it would take a rare person to give their life for someone they don’t know. You may be one of them.

I always said I would never own a small dog. But when I bought this home, there was a wonderful little dog who lived next door that would come over and spend many days with me. Especially if I had steak on the grill. That precious animal moved with his owners 2 years ago and boy has he been missed.

My daughter has since moved in and back out, but while she was here I promised to buy her a chihuahua that we had flown in from Louisana from a friend. It was such a fiasco getting him here but last June we became the proud owners of Estabon, the most beautiful little dog. What a love that 4 legged canine terror is. Completely spoiled, pampered and shown off. I keep him for a few days then he goes home with my daughter, then he goes home with her best friend. The pass around dog. We all just adore him even when he is being his most mischievious.

Animals have always been an important aspect of our lives and loves, couldn't see my life without any of them. When Bon Bon goes home, I hang with the cats. When Bon Bon is here, he terrorizes the cats. Very much Joyful chaos.

Blessings,
Witchy

Poorgie, I am the eternal optimist. I save em all!

By the way, now the kids are grown, so I wake them up, and make sure they each grab a cat on their way out!

And I am in there until every last one is out too!

I get the impression a certain guy on here is looking for an argument-
we are all merelly stating how we feel about our animals- if u wanna compare kids to animals, spare a thought for some that cant have children and stop getting so waspy!!!!!
Children/animals are a big part of our life and just because they cant talk, dont stop us loving them any less...

Well the problem with fires is the smoke, a young child can become unconscious very easy. So if they are on the floor they can't help with the cats. You see, if it came down to deciding there would only be a certain amount of time left. Telling your children to help out with the pets while your house is about to fall down is not that smart.
