Oh Darkcloud.. I just came back online to POF and I saw your post. I'm so sorry for your loss, I know you are heart broken. "Most" of us do understand and our hearts go out to you, I know mine does.

Who do you save first in a house fire?

poorgie, what about all the times you hear about a dog running into a burning building to pull people out? or waking up thier owners when there is trouble? what about when they guard you and protect you and obey you and do anything for you just to make you happy??

and when they do save your life and sometimes get hurt themselves...they dont sue you for damages, they never put themselves before you, everything in a trusted pets nature is unconditional.

I feel sorry for anyone that hasnt experienced a pets love, to take a matter such as this so lightly

and what about seeing eye dogs, or the dogs that go to visit the elderly, or ill children in senior homes or hospitals to boost moral and spirits?

Animals do so much for people!!..and we shouldnt take the love of a pet for granted

""""Hmmm did you not have a mother who had unconditional love for you,I did I think maybe that is where some of you confused people are coming from and to be honest with you its very sad,but i assure you there are people who have unconditional love, like that I have for my kids,my brothers, even a couple of my friends who have been by my side threw thick and thin"""""

I cannot believe all the BS on this thread and how way off it's gotten!! To you guys who are starting to ATTACK people who happen to feel their pets are as important as people. I can almost guarantee these same people given a choice to save their own CHILD or their pet would automatically save their child and mourn their pet later. WHY do you insist on making a battle out of this thread??? This is a case of you trying to PUSH your ways onto others when there is not a valid reason for it.

This was a simple thread that has turned into something negative. Us animals lovers are just that "animal lovers" but anyone who loves animals.. very simply has LOVE IN THEIR HEARTS period!! Yes I can say pets love unconditionally, they know no better. Us humans thrive with that kind of love if it be from a beloved pet or a mate that is in our lives. Love is love and we all need it and do better in our lives with it. HOWEVER, not everyone is lucky enough to have HUMANS in their lives that love them like their pets do. Why do you want to cut people down because of this. Ok so you have children and family and friends - Ok Mr.Christians... consider yourself lucky and stop looking at things just through your eyes! And you wonder why people do not go to church.. duh...

And for the record.. NOT all mothers love unconditionally!! I think everyone would appreciate the two stirring the pot to just start their own threads up! This thread need to go to sleep! You two guys "poorgie and joesch" have your own beliefs and that is fine. You do not agree with many of the people on here.. so just AGREE TO DISAGREE and shutup about it.

Ahhhhhh... ok I'm better now...

Pets are more important than people. Just ask one, and if he/she understands, the pet will let you know that your purpose is to serve him/her, and thus people are not as important!

Thank you AI03.... I just think enough is enough. People need to realize when they don't agree with people to sometimes just drop it. Seems like too many people take out their anger and bitterness towards whoever and whatever is on some innocent little thread like this one. Shame on them!!!

We're just trying to have fun and "discuss" ... nobody wants to fight and argue over things, I for one have enough negatives going on around me without coming on here and then have to defend myself. People other than myself have asked some of these people to back off and stop arguing and they just won't do it. There have been plenty of posts from people with different opinions and that is how they left it. As their opinions and we all respected that and didn't jump on them.

Don't you just hate mean people???

I did not say you hated animals did I??? And if i did then show me. I "opened it back up" only because i just came back on here. I saw your "opinions" as just argumentative and almost nasty. You are the one who brought in Christianity to this thread, where it had no place. I do not have to go back and reread your posts. And reading your posts to let me know you love animals or not.. does not make me have issues. This thread is not just about people loving animals, I can't think of anyone I know who can honestly say they "hate" animals. I'm not going to argue with you on this. I posted MY opinion about you arguing your point when nobody wants to argue. And I could say the same about you having issues but you see Joesch, THAT is where you ATTACK someone! You personally go after someone for their opinions. Get it?

darkcloud, I lost my Ridgeback this past year and it broke my heart. She disappeared back behind my house in the National Forest. She followed my black lab back there, I went looking for her on horseback and never found her. She was not the kind of dog to go with anyone so something had of killed her. I still picture finding her one day even though I know it's not really possible. She was such a cool dog, and loved "her mommy"... lol... I had an issue with my lab for months because I felt it was her fault "Trudie" went missing. But she's so dang sweet I can't stay mad at her. She's just a dog doing what "hunting" type dogs do.

my friends ridgeback did the same thing, jake just went off to the woods to die. he was 140 pounds. my friend found him and carried him home. it was heart breaking.

another friend's sister is blind, and her 12 yr old shepard walked her half way to work, turned around and brought her home. she called my friend. the dog went to the living room and died on his bed while she was on the phone. the dog was a true hero.

i came home tonight to an empty house. she wasn't there to greet me at the door. its' a different type of heart break. non of my break ups can even come close to the loss i feel.

the question once again was this are pets as important as people I think maybe if you only want people who think pets are just as important as people on here maybe it should have said that I have the right in a free society to bring religion into this especially since the country in which i live was founded and based on those principles, but yet this country is also free and it gives you the right to believe any which way you choose to,hence I have the right to argue and post anyway i choose to,and where i got nasty as you call it i appoligized and guess what I also got a appology back, did you not read that.

Wow... your friend's sister was very lucky to have such a dog. I have a german shepard puppy, she is going to be just wonderful. They are such smart dogs. My room mate has a white one (a bit of a spaz).. together we have 6 dogs!! two are very littel ones of mine so I just count them as one whole one in which case we only have 5. I have a soft spot for throwaways... that's why I have so many EX boyfriends!!!

Did you not read where I wrote "I'm not going to argue with you"???? What part of that do you not understand? I will just skip your future posts.. that is probably the best for me to do. Do you see how YOU are still arguing?? I'm not... see ya!! (and I could, believe me)

Well damn, if this thread wasn't already 23 pages long, I'd love to get into the debate. By this point however, it's probably been debated, repeated, debated some more, forgotten, buried, dug up, found, debated yet again and now it's just data no one reads.

Eh, I'll say this much. Some people aren't deserving of life... there's always the exception (Benji vs Hitler, Mr. Ed vs Pol Pot, Toonces vs Stalin.. hrm, tough one there) but other than that, pets are always just that. No matter how much you love your pet, no matter how big the connection is, he/she should not be worth more than a human life.

Of course, it's all relative. One person will think the pet is worth more than a person, the other won't. Who's to say? Opinions aren't simply right or wrong. So, if you have a personal opinion that says pets are as 'important' as people.. sure, run with it.

When it comes down to how society treats an animal versus a person however, this should never come into question. If an animal, pet or not, hurts or kills a person (that wasn't provoking it, hey, I'm all for Darwinism) it should be put down. I don't find it fun, funny or a good thing to do, but it has to be done.

Then again, I'm from Texas, you can see where this train of thought leads.
