Animals are part of nature. They give birth at different times and that is to keep their number in control. One animal is the prey of another, that maintains control over the population. What we humans do is get all these animals out of their natural cycle, confine them to our houses, put a leash around their neck, feed them whatever we buy for them in the market and break that natural cycle. This affects animals in different ways: For instance, it stops them from their natural behaviour of growth, such as survival. During Katrina, lots of dogs and cats didn't know how to go about surviving and were just roaming around their owner's house 'cause we made them dependent on us. And then they were shot ruthelessly.
Just think for a minute, if this world was ruled by animals and they would put a leash around our neck and confine us and we would want to do something and they would pull us with that leash one way and another or they would cut off their private parts so that we won't have any sex anymore.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/8/2005 6:24:59 PM | Animals have just as much right to be here as anything else on Earth. And I'm an active supporter of the SPCA. But I will always draw the line when it comes to children. Namely animals attacking them. If I was to own a pet that was aggressive towards my child, I think I would have to put it down, if i could not find a child free home for it of course. If they do it once and our child is ok, who's to say it won't happen again, only worse...? and yes, the rearing of the pet has a lot to do with its behavior. I'm not arguing that. But as much as i will fight for the life of an animal, children are infinitely more important.
So why kids but not grown ups? Well, adults for the most part can defend themselves, or at least know not to go near an aggressive animal. i have a cat who simply does not like people, other than me. But people always try to pet her because she is so damn cute lol. But i warn everyone who walks in the door explicitly to NOT touch the cat, no matter how sweet she may seem lol. But they stiil do it, and they all get swatted at... most bleed lol. But I warned them, so it's their own fault. She doesn't want to be touched, just like some people don't want to be touched, and that space needs to be respected, just like a person. But this cat will NEVER be allowed near kids... she gets locked up if my neice comes to visit...lol.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/8/2005 7:35:59 PM | | My ex use to say I loved my dogs more than I loved him. Which wasnt far from the truth towards the end of our marriage. I liked the way someone else put it animals are innocent. Mine greets me at the door every time I leave and come back. Most of the time she gets to ride with me except when I have to go to work or spend the night at the b/f's house. She loves my kids and protects the house at night when Im not there. When I am there she sleeps right beside me with her head on the pillow next to mine. She is a great comfort to me and my kids. Cool thing is she is 1/2 rot and 1/2 lab. And I got the best qualities form both breeds in her. Ok ok enough about my beloved pet. Oh by the way her name is Shuggar. My daughter named her that. But she is as sweet as sugar | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/8/2005 8:13:24 PM | If you think pets are more important then people you need help. A person is much more important then an animal. As a Christian I am glad I am more important then the animals. I am a huge meat eater, I am happy to have four teeth to shred meat like a tiger and back teeth to grind meat and vegitation like an elephant.
Now if you have to decide on a human or a dear loving pet to live you better choose the human. Unless that human is on your property and your life is at stake. Then it is self defence.
I don't think it is right to have chickens as pets with the Avian flu being a huge threat to humans, but people still live with them... humans can be so dumb and some animals are very smart though.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/8/2005 8:15:30 PM | Naturally, there are all kinds of people in the world. In my case, no animal is as important as someone I love, however; an animal I love would be more important than a person that I don't even know. I have a friend that is older and she could kill a human being quicker than a animal. If I was dating a woman that had an animal that she loved with all her heart than I would do whatever I could to make the animal a part of my life as well. I would work hard at loving it. On the other hand if I had an animal that I loved and a woman came into my life and maybe she had an allergy or something to my animal than I would get rid of the animal in a heartbeat. So, to answer your query: Animals are much less important than human beings to me. Animals don't have a soul.............Tracy (buccaneer38)
I should add that I would find it a good home, I would never kill an animal! I just had to add that!

I can't stand my cat most of the time, but my life would be so different without my little pain in the a$$! he's the best!!! I consider them both very much a part of my motley little crew here!!!! I'd give up so many things for my critters! They are my family too!

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/8/2005 9:33:00 PM | Pets are peoples reaction to being told all of their lives there is an ethereal being. Consider the paralell. Pets can however be eaten whereas eating people is against the law. Pets are more important as related by the Humane society who scurried into New Orleans to rescue animals and left people behind. | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/8/2005 10:25:59 PM | How can you say animals do not have souls???? We are all god's creatures.. why would he not put a soul in an animal? Have you ever watched the animals shows where they show mother apes with their babies.. .or mother animals dying trying to protect their babies? Have you never heard of dogs or cats SAVING their owners lives when they were in danger? What do you know about souls anyway???
Geez.. didn't mean to bash... honest...

Pets are as close to us as our family are. Do you have a pet? Let me ask you this... When you come home from work... what's the 1st being you see greeting you? Do you 'NOT' acknowledge it? Do you not have enough feeling for it more than anything else in the world at that time? Does it not come to your side when you are depressed? Is it not playful when you are happy?
If you say no to any of these things... Then maybe you don't deserve your mistreated loved-one.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 7:44:44 AM | I feel the love one feels for their pet, is a different kind of love, than they feel for their children. I love my pets more than one could know...and maybe, if the circumstance so presented itself, i would give my life for them, as they would for me. With my children...I would give my life...without a second thought...with my pet...one never knows.
I have never been without a pet since childhood. I seem to have a connection with animals...a trait that many possess. Animals have an undying and uncondisional love for their owners...even if mistreated or abused...which is sad....all they are seeking is the love that they bestow, to be returned.
I have often thought that animals...although not as intelligent as man, make more loyal and loving friends, than any human could ever be capable of. Their love comes without judgement or critisism...they would give their life for you, without a second thought. Humans, on the other hand, and depending on the person and/or situation, would have to think long and hard about your life being "worth the risk".
IMO..yes, animals are just as important as people...like us, they possess a soul...they feel pain from loss...they have a multitude of feelings... thoughts....maybe not as complex as ours, but they possess these traits, none the less.

I love the crap out of her, She is a very important addition to my family. She is just as important to me as any human.
Plus! She is happy when I get home. Does not **** about what is for dinner. does not want to know when where and how.
She only cares about food, play and Love.
Might be a lot we can learn from animals. LOL

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 8:46:34 AM | | There is nothing wrong with having a pet(s) and loving it however, from my experiences it does become a problem when they become threes company (i.e) going to bed at night and the pet(s) has their own side of the bed, pillow, blanket, trying to take a shower/bath with you, having to plan your life around it, having to leave the bathroom sink running for the pet, leaving the toilet seat up ... I once dated a person who did all of this and more for their pets, which was fine but it was getting in the way of our relationship ... I personally thought it was just a bit much considering that I had to pay for baby sitters for my children and my pets so that we could have alone time yet this person felt it to be nessesary to bring his pet WHERE EVER we went ... there was no compromise, no inbetween. I felt that it was very selfish of this person to expect me to put aside my life to accomodate his pets ... Don't get me wrong I love animals and have some myself however, when you consider your pets feelings before you consider your special someone's feelings then you run into some issuses ... | |

However, whenever someone has walked in here and said that they don't like cats, or the dog, then sorry......she's leaving, not them....
I may not have kids, but I have baggage.......deal with it....
