| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 9:08:17 AM | I have a 10 year old border collie and like all of you, I cannot imagine my life without him. Like all of you, he makes me laugh, keep's me in shape and bring's joy to my life. Circumstances now have me owning a 4 month border collie. Now I have Liam the old man and Mick owner of razor sharp teeth. It's going quite well. Liam pound's the pup daily, but they play and I think Liam deep down like's him. | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 10:26:33 AM | | For me my 4 cats are as important and as dear as my family. Actually they are filling in for the empty places of my dear family members. They each posses their own uniek personality and behaviours. I do know them each very well and can read them from the expressions on their faces and their body languages! I do enjoy them alot and can't ever imagine being without them! | |

I now have a new puppy and he is a sweetheart - forgot how much energy a puppy has!As a tribute to my old dog his registered name is "Nostalgic Charisma".....

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 11:20:27 AM | I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, and each of them is an important family member.
When I had to put my shepard down recently I did some reseach on why she had cronic ear infections. I discovered that many dogs have allergys to dry dog food.
So now I cook for my brood... I have a 60 lb chow mix, he son who is 100 lbs and a Pitt Bull/ Rottweiler/Mastif mix who weights in at 80 lbs (she is under a year old).
Lots of food for each meal, but they are happy and healthier.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 12:25:01 PM | | Some people treat their pets better than their family;which is wrong. Animals are important-especially to pet lovers-but not " as important as people", or " more important than people"...not to a sane person. Anyone who-if their home were on fire, and they had time to grab one thing before running to safety-would grab their toy poodle, or cat, rather than their infant child is a sicko...but such people do exist. Dogs are usually more faithful than people, and even tarantulas are more trustworthy than some folks I've met. Even so, I'm not ready to become a recluse living in a trailer with 117 cats, or 23 dogs, or such. A person can do anything too much...including loving a pet. Usually, they do so because they are too fearful, or angry, to trust people. Also, some animals are more social than some people. | |

I can assure you this...my animals will not EVER screw me over...so if push comes to shove....get packin'....They do mean that much to me.....and to a lot of others as well....Very little in this life gives you that much joy, so you enjoy it while you can.

Pets can certainly bring much joy to man. But it is good to keep a balanced viewpoint of them, because pets can never replace or equal good relationships with other people.
Agreed...some folks never seem to have good relationships with people though.
My rule for dating...the prospective guy has to have something living in his house...plants, animals, humans...something that requires some care. If a person can't take care of some living thing, he may have some issues and I really don't want to find out what they are.

I love my cat, she's important to me and an excellent pet BUT, she's a pet. There have been cats before her and there will be others after her.
If some chick gives me an ultimatum like I read above, "the dog goes or I go...", in my case the cat, she's just not the kind of person I'd want to be with.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 5:24:35 PM | My dog is my baby boy, the son I haven't had. And, the best part is he'll never grow up and hate me like most teenagers (but he does talk back to me, the brat!)...he's pushing 11 in a few months.
He is as important as people to me. In the event of a fire, I'd save my family and loved ones first, then my dog, and if still some time is left, strangers. But, considering human beings are usually capable of helping themselves, that would put my dog first. And, yes, I'd risk my life to save him, even at his old age.
He used to sleep with me, but he's too old to jump up on the bed now, so he sleeps right outside my door.
My dog has been the only constant in my life in the past 10.5 years. Friends, men, jobs, homes, etc, have come and gone...and he's still the ole' faithful. I couldn't let him down. I wouldn't.

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 8:00:56 PM | | Where else are you gonna get that kind of loyalty and unconditional love? The excitement on my dogs faces when I get home is enough to put a big smile on my face no matter how bad my day was! | |

| Are pets as important as people? Posted: 12/9/2005 8:05:20 PM | Why is it we love animals so much? -They love unconditionally dont care about petty things that tick off some people or turn off others, its near impossible to chase them off for more then a few secs when they have bonded to you so in the end they are the perfect companion to listen to your gripes, and purr or pant your blues away as they love u uncondtionally
Do some people care more about their pets than their spouse or children? - Some do tho i havent met any as of yet guess it depends on whether u have more luck talking to the dog then u do to your family tho i would say thats a big warning sign theirs trouble a brewin.
Can you love a pet too much? - Long as your not crossing the beastiality line id say your safe

Posted: 12/10/2005 11:38:34 AM | | lucy is my heart. i rescued her when she was a 7 weeks old pup, she just turned 8yrs.old, and we've been a good team. she's one of the best things that ever happened to me. i have been accused of treating her better than i do most people, and why not? i feel i don't have to defend myself on how or why i love this dog, i just do.

ASPCA-
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) want to do everything possible to help reunite animal victims of Hurricane Katrina with their human families. To that end, we are dedicating monies to a joint program that will reimburse local animal shelters for the costs of transporting pets back to their owners. Organizations across the country have provided these animals with extraordinary care and shelter from the ravages of the storm; the next step is to help those pets find their way home.
The ASPCA has committed $500,000 to help animals find their way back home and help shelters make those happy endings possible! We’re offering a reward to shelters for the first 1,000 reunions they facilitate—$500 for each reunion.
