It may have started with the so called "sin of Onan" in the Bible (Genesis,forget the exact verse).He practiced coitus interuptus as a means of birth control and was punished by God according the OT.I think it's here where Catholics get the prohibition on birth control but I may be wrong on this,I'm not Catholic.
