And I dont know who watches Nashville Star (country fans) But Zac Hacker wrote a song and just the words and how he sang it hit home, Its called
If It Wasnt For The Whiskey.
Daddy had a weakness he kept it on a shelf every time he touched it he'd turn into someone else he tried to teach me wrong from right with the back side of his hand if it wasn’t for the whiskey daddy would have been a good man. he had a good woman she knew how to sacrifice she prayed every morning for god to change his life and if he would have been on mamas side he might of had a chance if it wasn’t for the whiskey daddy would have been a good man. he could see me grow up but he'd never give it up oh I know in his heart he wanted to but the want to is never enough so well the whiskey played the music and the devil got the dance damn that whiskey cuz daddy would have been a good man

Amazing how a band who made 'This is me in Grade 9', and their many other albums of happy sunshine and roses could also bring us this tale of long term abuse...
The way they use the double-bass as the key to the song brings a tear to my eye.

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/13/2007 6:36:23 PM | Sher, you said it exactly right.. lyrics are the most powerful things ever invented by man.. I swear it. And the wonder in music.. and words.. is that the meaning for each individual.. is just a bit dif. This song makes me sad. So sad.. but like you (sher) It also brings me some peace. Why is it.. that I love this song so.. always have.
Digging a hole and the walls are caving in Behind me air's getting thin but I'm trying I'm breathing in Come find me It hasn't felt like this before It hasn't felt like home before you And I know it's easy to say but it's harder to feel This way And I miss you more than I should Than I thought I could Can't get my mind off of you I know you're scared that I'll soon be over it That's part of it all Part of the beauty of falling in love with you is the fear you won't fall It hasn't felt like this before It hasn't felt like home before you And I know it's easy to say but it's harder to feel This way And I miss you more than I should than I thought I could Can't get my mind off of you And I hate the phone But I wish you'd call Thought being alone Was better than was better than And I know it's easy to say but it's harder to feel this way And I miss you more than I should Than I thought I could Can't get my mind off of you Can't get my mind off of you And I know it's easy to say but it's harder to feel This way And I miss you more than I should Than I thought I could Can't get my mind off of you ~Joshua Radin

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/16/2007 3:27:27 PM | I can only think of a couple of Country songs
He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones
He said "I'll love you till I die", she told him "You'll forget in time" As the years went slowly by, she still preyed upon his mind
He kept her picture on his wall, went half-crazy now and then He still loved her through it all, hoping she'd come back again
Kept some letters by his bed dated nineteen sixty-two He had underlined in red every single "I love you"
I went to see him just today, oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away, first time I'd seen him smile in years
He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today
(Spoken) You know, she came to see him one last time. Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would. And it kept runnin' through my mind "this time he's over her for good."
He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today
Love, Me - Colin Raye
I read a note my grandma wrote back in nineteen twenty-three. Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me. He said, "Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago, Grandma's daddy didn't like me none, but I loved your Grandma so."
We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together. Get married in the first town we came to, and live forever. But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet, instead I found this letter, and this is what it said:
If you get there before I do, don't give up on me. I'll meet you when my chores are through; I don't know how long I'll be. But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see. And between now and then, till I see you again, I'll be loving you. Love, me.
I read those words just hours before my Grandma passed away, In the doorway of a church where me and Grandpa stopped to pray. I know I'd never seen him cry in all my fifteen years; But as he said these words to her, his eyes filled up with tears.
If you get there before I do, don't give up on me. I'll meet you when my chores are through; I don't know how long I'll be. But I'm not gonna let you down, darling wait and see. And between now and then, till I see you again, I'll be loving you. Love, me. Between now and then, till I see you again, I'll be loving you. Love, me.

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/16/2007 4:52:36 PM | Oh boy....Collin Raye is one of my favourites. How about "I can Still Feel You".? It has a beat and powerful!!!
Collin Raye I Can Still Feel You It's that feeling That someone Is standing behind me And I turn around And there's no one there And it's the sensation That someone just whispered Yeah and I still Hear your voice But you're not really here Your memory is like a ghost And my heart is it's host
I can still feel you Just as close as skin Every now and then All by myself, In a crowded room, Or my empty bed There's a place You've touched With your love No one gets close to I can still feel you, I can still feel you, I can still feel you, I can still feel you
You said You'd love me forever Then you said It's over And left me Without the missing link I thought I'd forget you But I guess I forgot to And lately I've been too confused To think When I reach For someone new It's like I'm touching you
I can still feel you Just as close as skin Every now and then All by myself, In a crowded room, Or my empty bed There's a place You've touched With your love No one gets close to I can still feel you, I can still feel you, I can still feel you, I can still feel you
In everything that moves In everything I do
I can still feel you Just as close as skin Every now and then All by myself, In a crowded room, Or my empty bed There's a place You've touched With your love No one gets close to I can still feel you, I can still feel you, I can still feel you, I can still feel you

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/16/2007 7:42:59 PM | | Strange to include a Beatles song yet...."For No One" has hurtin' power enough to go up against any Phil Collins ballad. Strange that the music is somewhat upbeat, however the lyrics are anything but. | |

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/16/2007 7:48:18 PM | I should never have opened this thread.
There are many songs that have brought me to tears......and usually once it's happened the first time, I'll likely cry every other time after. So many have been listed already ("Everybody Hurts" by REM is one that really kills me), but I have a couple of others to add.
"Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls is a killer for me now. I saw them open up for Bon Jovi a few years ago. It was three months since my mom had died, and she was always my concert buddy. I was sitting there enjoying the concert when suddenly I noticed a mom and daughter sitting a few rows in front of me. It suddenly hit me that my mom and I had always wanted to see Bon Jovi, and here I was finally at one of their shows and she was gone. I started to bawl....and Goo Goo Dolls were performing "Iris" at the time. I've never been able to listen to it the same way again.
Another one I have to add is a song called "Do You Believe In Shame?" by Duran Duran. This song has made me cry for years!
Do you believe in love? Do you believe in shame? And if love can conquer all then why do we only feel the pain?
I heard you speak my name, heard you singing the stones, Maybe heard you laughing in a line of static on my telephone
So why your eyelids are closed, inside a case of rust, And did you have to change all your poets fire into frozen dust?
Ive tried to justify it, to learn from your mistake, But wheres the stupid lie that has to make its point - With such a pointless waste.
Come out...
Do you believe in shame? Do you believe in love? And if they taste the same would you love again or abandon both?
I dont think I ever can, belive my friend has gone, Keep saying its alright, Im going to bring you back but I know Im wrong. Theres nothing I can say, theres nothing left to do Its just that lately I feel so damn lonely when I think of you
And it may seem selfish now, but Ill hold on to the memory Until all this fear is washed away
Do you believe in love? Do you believe in life? cos I believe a little part of you inside of me will never die..

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/17/2007 10:53:10 AM | Never Let Go - Bryan Adams (2006)
"Can you lay your life down So a stranger can live Can you take what you need But take less than you give
Could you close every day Without the glory and fame Could you hold your head high When no one knows your name
That's how legends are made At least that's what they say.
We say, goodbye But never let go We live, we die Cause you can't save every soul
You gotta take every chance to Show that you're the kinda man who Will never look back Will never look down
And never let go ! " | |

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/17/2007 6:28:02 PM | Seasons In The Sun Terry Jacks
This was a friends favourite song and he was taken from us playing the game he loved.
Goodbye to you my trusted friend We've known each other since we were nine or ten Together we climbed hills and trees Learned of love and A B C's Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend it's hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air Pretty girls are everywhere Think of me and I'll be there
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the hills that we climbed were just seasons Out of time......
Goodbye Papa please pray for me I was the black sheep of the family You tried to teach me right from wrong Too much wine and too much song Wonder how I got along.
Goodbye Papa its hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air Little children everywhere When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song like the seasons Have all gone.
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song like the seasons Have all gone.
Goodbye Michelle my little one You gave me love and helped me find the sun And every time that I was down You would always come around And get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die When all the birds are singing in the sky Now that the spring is in the air With the flowers everywhere I wish that we could both be there
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the stars we could reach Were just starfish on the beach
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the stars we could reach Were just starfish on the beach
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the wine and the song like the seasons Have all gone
All our lives we had fun We had seasons in the sun But the hills that we climbed were just seasons Out of time......
We had joy we had fun We had seasons in the sun

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/17/2007 11:10:01 PM | There are a few....
When I am missing my daughter:
Butterfly kisses - ??? Lullabye - Billy Joel (I have sung this song to her since the day she was born. She calls it Daddy's song)
Others that are truly sad:
The Change - Garth Brooks (about the Oklahoma bombing) The Dance - Garth Brooks Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
The Road to Freedom, Snow is Falling and Songbird - all by Chris de Burgh (songbird is especially sad - he wrote it after hearing of 2 young girls murdered in England) (if all you know of Chris de Burgh is "Lady in Red", you are missing out - the man has many songs that are far superior - check him out @ www.cdeb.com)

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/18/2007 6:53:58 AM | Without question . . . 'Bad Timing' by Blue Rodeo . . . somewhere many of us have been. About things failed, wrong turns and regret.
Hey it's me what a big surprise Calling you up from a restaurant Around the bend Just got in from way up North I'm achy and tired now And I could use a friend Might be a fool To think that you do Want to see me again
I Know it's been awhile since I talked to you Nothing wrong Just nothing ever goes as planned Many times I thought I'd call Didn't have your number in my hand Well I know it's true You'd never do The same thing to me
I never meant to make you cry And though I know I shouldn't call It just reminds us of the cost Oh of everything we've lost Bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day When no more tears will fall We each forgive a little bit And we both look back on it As just bad timing that's all
Used to have so many plans Something always seemed to turn out wrong Never could catch up to you Moving on and doing all you've done I don't know why The harder I try The harder it comes
I never meant to make you cry And though I know I shouldn't call It just reminds us of the cost Of everything we've lost Bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day When no more tears will fall We each forgive a little bit And we both look back on it It's just bad timing that's all
We each forgive a little bit And we both look back on it It's just bad timing that's all

| Saddest song ever! Posted: 2/18/2007 7:05:08 AM | Don Henley, with or without the rest of his nestmates, has penned a few that tear at the heartstrings as well . . .
I got the call today, I didn't wanna hear, but I knew that it would come. An old, true friend of ours was talking on the phone, she said you found someone. And I thought of all the bad luck and the struggles we went through and how I lost me and you lost you. What are these voices outside love's open door? Make us throw off our contentment and beg for something more? I'm learning to live without you now but I miss you sometimes. The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again. I've been trying to get down to the heart of the matter but my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter but I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness, even if, even if you don't love me anymore.
These times are so uncertain, there's a yearning undefined and people filled with rage. We all need a little tenderness, how can love survive in such a graceless age? The trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness, they're the very things we kill, I guess. Pride and competition cannot fill these empty arms and the work I put between us, you know it doesn't keep me warm. I'm learning to live without you now but I miss you, baby. The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I thought I'd figured out, I have to learn again. I've been trying to get down to the heart of the matter but everything changes and my friends seem to scatter but I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness even if, even if you don't love me anymore.
There are people in your life who've come and gone. They let you down, you know they hurt your pride. Better put it all behind you babe, cause life goes on. You keep carrying that anger, it'll eat you up inside, baby.
I've been trying to get down to the heart of the matter but my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter but I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness, even if, even if you don't love me. I've been trying to get down to the heart of the matter because the flesh will get weak and the ashes will scatter so I'm thinking about forgiveness, forgiveness even if, even if you don't love me.
