Posted: 10/21/2005 9:07:09 AM | hiya.. i'm a mother of 3 from the uk and I childmind as well.. and I tell ya what hun ya did the right thing.. there's no way any date prospective or otherwise would eva raise a hand to any of my kids I don't even smack them and mine are 11,8and 5... WTG hun he may well of sounded like a nice guy but to say that over the phone.. blimey.. can only imagine what he'd have been like if you had invited him round.. there are some wonderful blokes out there who appreciate that kids (of all ages) need to interupt mummy now and again and he definately isn't one of them... keep searching hunny you'll find him.. and if he know's someone nice send them my way would ya.. | |

You're a beautiful woman, intelligent, confident, and you have a lot of common sense...which isn't a common thing in many people today...trust your gut instincts; they'll never fail you. I can tell from your profile and your posts that you have a good head on your shoulders, you're a great mom, you have your priorities straight, and you know what you want and don't want. I only wish I had been that way at your age!

That's not something you joke about. I have a 7 yr old son, and my mother has watched him on the occasion. I happened to hear her tell my son that if he didn't behave she was going to tear his butt up. I put my foot down with her then and there. I explained to her that she might have thought that it was ok to do that to me when I was a kid, but not to my child. If she was going to watch him, she needed to abide by my rules on how I was going to raise him. I have only popped my son on the butt once and that was when he just was out of control and wasn't listening to reason what so ever. You're a good mom, and you stuck to your guns, even if it meant be alone a little bit longer. Trust me I know how it feels being a single mom. | |

I grew up getting my ass kicked by my dad,and because of it I made a promise to myself that I would never grow up to be like him. I was dating a girl last year that had 2 kids. One night her son who was 5 at the time spit in my face. She told me to spank him,because if I didn't he would do it again. I fell weak and poped him on the ass. The next day I called if off with her, I felt like I had failed myself as a man. Of coruse she spanks her kids all the time,I feel she uses this type of punishment to much and couldn't stand to watch,let alone be like my father. Violence is not a suitable means of punishment for kids | |

Obviously, since this guy doesn't have kids, he really has no clue. Imagine how he'd react if the kids were really acting up?

You portray it like he asked it very non-chalant...sounds creepy...especially if he's spanking his dog...makes me think you definitely did the right thing but for different reasons than what everybody else is saying...sounds more like he got his rocks off on spanking and may have a particular taste for little boys...just a shot in the dark, but that was too creepy if you ask me...

Posted: 10/22/2005 7:51:19 AM | It's obvious to me that this man was not joking. The main reason is because he had reason in HIS mind to spank him by saying that your son wasn't letting you two talk before he even mentioned that was joking. I'm sure he was "joking" after your reaction came out.

After all men need discipline as well as children and it is obvious he was lacking from his childhood. I'm sorry but NO ONE is going to discipline my children except me, not even thier sperm donor (dead beat ex hubby who hasn't tried to see them in almost 3 years).I'm glad to see that you have your priorities straight, kids before man!!!! As does alot of women on here I have noticed! Anyways, JUST MY 2 CENTS worth! LOL

I thank God that he was only on the phone and not there with you.
As a mother of two, I was a single parent too.
Some times life deals us a raw hand but our children come first.
They count on us to show them right from wrong.
As a christian woman, I know that it isn't easy dating these days.
Perhaps you should have said " I'm sorry, but I don't think this is going to work-out."

Posted: 10/30/2005 1:51:40 PM | Ok, Sounds like you have gotten some great advice and there is only one thing that I could add to this and that is that if he thinks that is a joke and you are over reacting then he is way out of touch with reality and what it is to be a mother or a parent or for that matter a human being with common sense so there is another reason to walk away. This one incident would be the least of your problems if you were to allow him to hang around. | |

The Bible says spare the rod spoil the child so as I said it may have been a question that he was wanting to know it you got married . Would you allow him to be the head of the household and spank your kids if he felt it was necessary? | |

And may I add this is a question or subject that you are asking the world for advice in which the world knows nothing about the pproper way of raising thier kids that why there's so many of them all screwed up. And trust me I know because I see it everyday cause I work at a Mental Insitition with children that have bad behavior problems and quess why because thier parnets refuse to take responsibly and correct them by spanking them. | |
