| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 9/22/2008 12:24:22 AM | Haha I would definitely Have to say that My Royal Flush guitar is my favourite, it's a six string electric novelty item from the seventies that was made from a toilet seat.
But I love all my guitars pretty much the same, except my Samick because it's given me nothing but grief. I recently bought a Greg Bennett Design for very cheap and it's played really well. Haha collecting guitar stuff becomes an addiction.
My favourite strings to use for an electric guitar are flat wounds so that when you slide it doesn't make the scratchy sound.
I have: Fender amp 38 watts
Electric: - Univox - Royal Flush - Samick - Greg Bennett Design
Acoustic: - Maestro - Acoustic Songbird
Bass: - Jackson | |

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 9/25/2008 11:07:04 AM | | I play on a Yamaha RGX A2 , it's a uniquely designed guitar made of 2 different kinds of wood, and has sound tubes that run down the entire neck into the increase resonance. It weighs about 5 pounds which is pretty light compared to most guitars. I got it for $550 but it stands up pretty well to some of the more expensive ones | |

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 9/25/2008 8:04:40 PM | Hey guys
Just picked up a Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier head for my Marshall 2X12 cabinet. Like a dumbass I forgot to check the speaker ohms on it until I got home. So here's the thing-Mesa head has 3 outputs: two 4 ohm outputs and one 8 ohm output. My Marshall cab is 16 ohms to run both speakers! Can I still hook up as usual and get stereo output or am I limited to running the cab in mono? (gawd,I hope not)
|
| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 9/26/2008 3:14:33 AM | cristian steele welcome you are in luck my friend you just need to open the back of the marshall cabinet and check the wiring,by switching the wiring you should be able to make a 4 ohm cabinet my guess is that the cabinet is 2 -8ohm speakers wired in series=16 0hms 2 -8 ohm speakers wired in parellal =4 ohms if you rewire the cabinet make sure to plug in a speaker jack and check the ohm rating with a simple voltage/ohms meter from raduio shack $35 them mark down the new ohm rating on the marshall cabinet so you don't forget
here is a simple tutorial that will help you

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 4/10/2009 6:21:47 PM | I've been reading this forum and I have to say, its been intriguing to know many still love to play the guitar. my knowledge of guitars isnt that wide of range but its a passion of mine to sit and listen to others jam, and still do to this day, i could sit for hours to enjoying it....theres something about the guitar sound that brings me peace in mind. I dont play but I am looking up to taking some lessons...i can play a few chords..lol. but as a child, all my relatives, and even my parents played the guitar and often entertained us children on demand, no matter where we went, they had their guitars and those they visited would pull out their guitars and jam the night away.....omg....good ole days. I have to admit, I very much miss it. I'm not sure if the guitar I have is worth anything but that doesnt matter, it has its history behind it and stories. I have a grand prix, mint shape(label>hand crafted model 7675) . hopefully someday will play, wont be a pro like most of you...lol...buy hey, thats okay..its all good.
so those who havent played in years....pick up the guitar and play again. I want to marry a guitarman.. who can play for me any time of the day.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 4/10/2009 7:34:10 PM | well.. the past few years... I have been playing an ibanez (the les paul rip off that they got sued for.. has great action, lighter than a les paul and has a 25db boost switch... it's taken a beating and keep chugging along), amp wise? I use a fader/pan pedal to switch between my johnson marquis 60 and a marshall 8100 valvestate. I use them both about equally.. you can just get some amazing tones with them. pedals? an old beat up mxr distortion pedal, a big muff, a jim dunlop wah pedal and that's about it.. the johnson has a whole array of digital effects so I have cut back on my pedal addiction. my other guitars... A rogue acc/electric (it's not that great... but it's a workhorse), an epiphone sg knockoff (sold my 67 sg for a big chunk of money) an old Japanese fender strat (it has two humbuckers and no pick guard... weird guitar...)and an olp maple quilted thing.. it has really good tone once I swapped the pickups out w/ duncans . that's about it... I have all the junk that one might expect... I gotta say though... behringer makes a 4x12 D.I. box that if you're running straight into the mixing board.. great product. (if you're interested garageband.com/slurry) although what I'm working on now is a bit different. -Brandt | |

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 4/18/2009 9:00:08 AM | There is some guitars I have to get but they're so hard to find. There's the B.C. Rich Ironbird (not the new one with the one humbucker at the bridge) and a Dearmond s73, an old friend of mine had a white dearmond s73 that he replaced with dimebuckers and it rips and squeals with ease.
I play a Jackson DXMG Dinky, I really love the guitar it fits nicely in my hands and I enjoy the floyd tremolo (even though its most likely not a TRUE floyd tremolo, it serves its purpose.) On top of that, I have a Ibanez GAX70 that I had before the Jackson and I have a rogue bass guitar.
I only have one distortion pedal a BOSS Metal Zone as much as I like it, I'm using distortion through my old 1983 Peavey amp 2 12's 120watts. It is a tube amp.. I want to get a bigger amp most likely a marshall but I need to do some research and talk to a friend so he can get me a discount. :P
I also have a question, for recording my brother is raving about Mbox. I know its for recording but he connects his Line 6 Toneport UX through the Mbox, does that give it a better sound quality when doing that? I have a toneport ux2 and I don't have it connected through a mbox, just want to know the difference and is it worth it?

welcome dude I have not used the toneport ux2 -looks like a cool piece of gear do a test at your friends house -record to takes one with the mbox inline and one with just the toneport ux2 let us know your findings

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 4/21/2009 8:19:50 PM | | Right now, I'm using an American Deluxe Strat (chrome/silver) and an Ibanez RG2550Z (Galaxy White). But the strat doesn't get much playtime. I also have an Epi G-400 with 2 Gibson Dirty fingers that I'm trying to sell. I play through a Boss GT-10 and a PA. I'm currently saving for an Ibanez RG1527M (Galaxy White). What can I say? I love RGs and galaxy white. The maple fretboard is hella sexy too. And the 7th string will come in handy. I'm also going to get some amps. The first will be a white Carvin Legacy II, and the second will be an Orange Tiny Terror. I just love stereo rigs. I'm getting the amps this summer and the guitar around Thanksgiving. I got 20% off my RG for last Black Friday, so November is officially new guitar month. That should hold me down for a while...until I upgrade to 8-strings and a galaxy white RG2228 comes out. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 4/25/2009 8:45:16 AM | | I've a mexican Strat as well as a 'Blackie'. About a grand difference in price. Of course the two have very different sounds, which is why I have them. But the main quality difference is in the finishing. The Mex sounds GOOD, hot and clean to buzz saw rough, but spent a couple of days in the shop getting the ends of the frets properly dressed, intonation corrected, and the tremolo properly balanced. Little things but a bit annoying. The Blackie was perfect right out of the box. | |

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 4/25/2009 9:20:08 AM | Through the years, I've played a lot of different guitars but I have my favourites:
Back in the day I played bass for the most part and my favorite rig was a Gibson GB-3 standard neck bass and a Garnet Pro bassman amp, and no, I cannot find a reference to the Gibson model anywhere, and I've never seen it's like since, but the SG bass (faded) is close and I think I'm gonna get me one.
Still long ago, 65 Strat through a Vox Buckingham. For acoustic, something you might find hard to believe. A Yamaki deluxe ($129!) I still have it today, have resisted putting a pickup in it, and play her when at home or a venue small enough that amplification isn't needed. SWEET!
Today my favourite changes depending on the day and the mood, but include
Mexican Strat Clapton Strat Mosrite Ventures Model Les Paul that's been rewired so the tone controls provide infinite variability between pure humbuker and spilt coils Roland GR-808 played through a G-300 synth
Amp is a Fender Pro Reverb, retubed with Mesa boogies and is the sweetest sounding amp I've ever had.
Acoustics well, there's still 'Burt', the Yamaki, which has mellowed to a point that it has a MUCH sweeter tone than my buddy's Martin. For performance I use a Larrivee and a Simon & Patrick, both single cutaways with a lovely acoustic tone when unplugged, as well as excellent electronics.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 4/26/2009 6:32:49 PM | All right! My favourite thread up and running again.
Hey Gman, you may remember me from awhile ago (dark f5). I've probably bought and sold 4 heads by now. LOL My current head is a Mesa Single Rec,it's okay but I think I'm gonna go with the Stiletto Deuce or Trident (a little more versatile).
So,here's the current rig: Schecter Omen 6 w. DiMarzio Tone Zone/Air Norton Schecter C1 Hellraiser w. EMG 81/89 Mesa Single Rectifier Marshall 2X12 cab
Pedals: Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor,MXR Phase 90,MXR Super Comp,Keeley modded TS9 Tube Screamer,Tonebone Plexitube,Landmine Distortion,BB Preamp,MXR Carbon Copy,Boss Digital Reverb & MXR 10 band eq
The G.A.S. is still there though dude...probably picking up a Charvel SoCal or a MusicMan Axis...it never ends! LOL
