jimi.. mine do ok when hanging on the wall as long as the temps stay consistent. I've found temperture is the main culprit for knocking my guitars flat and sharp.

I use an LR Baggs pickup straight with no preamp other than the stock one incorporated in my carvin head. I've been wanting to get a nice preamp for my rig, but I haven't wanted to spend the money or do the research on what would work best. The sound I get currently is above average, and I dont play nearly well enough to warrant another 4-800 bucks..

Right on the money, ....I'd include humidity too.

Hanging guitars in a relatively stable climate is the best way to store 'em, ...........'cause they're sooooooo....... purty. Zero stress on the neck too when you think about it.

The main reason for guitars losing "true" is lousy set-ups, ....bad nut dressing, etc, ....

......Do you have "Floyds" on these guitars that go out of tune, ....?

Lasido? i don't know what that is..

My guitar is a Canadian made. Art & Lutherie. Made from all natural fallen Canadian wood. cherry neck, walnut finger board, cedar top, maple sides, spruce tone struts on the inside.

art & lutherie's are really inexpensive, but I've played a few that didn't do too bad. An ex had one that we both played around the house alot. For a 150 bucks those guitars are great ones to strum around the house. She tried a cheap little pickup for it at a live show once and it just didn't work well for playing out. I think people who are planning on doing anything more sturdy than open mics require a slightly more adept guitar for amplified sound..
That's my opinion, jim, but you do have a wonderful starter instrument to play there.

I'll let Guitarman handle that one, .....I have a little Stew-Mac tool I picked up from a tech friend for polishing, ....he does leveling and crowning for me (if I need it, ....he's very good at it), gratis.

I'd pay $50-$75 for a really good job....... if the frets were flat, y'know?

yeah.. everything around here is inflated and it sucks.. I think a standard crown polish would start around 80 bucks here. I need a few other little things done too.. I'm sick of spend 35 or so for a half assed tuneup every two months.. Unfortunately.. lol.. I'm playing well enough now to notice the smaller imperfections in the setup of my guitar. Clearly that's not a bad thing, but I just have to spend MORE money to have the upkeep where it needs to be.

Check out Stew-Mac....... it's a source for tools and education.

You can probably equip yourself to crown and polish your frets for the price of having it done.

true you can
get some tools
and go for it
the fret file will set you back a bit
I have good luck with those file for fingernails
basically grades of sandpaper glued to hard flexible foam
a good way to get fret ends they seem to spare the wood on the neck if you are careful

I never do fret levels to match the lowest divets a person will
wear typically in the first 5 frets
I replace them to save fret hieght

good levels are hard work
3 hours
I charge $25 an hour..............which is fair if not cheap
considering what other industries charge an hour

getting tools is a good way to go practice on a cheap guitar first
dan erlewine of stew mac offers great books on it

Try turning the pot shaft without the "rack" on it, is the pot shaft situated in the right spot of rotation?

You can get pots, inductors, and even full circuit-boards for the Cry Baby, here -

When I play my fretless I don't use effects very often, I like a bit of spring reverb, or chorus .....mostly "just cable" between the amp and bass.

If I had to choose? I'd rather use an envelope filter than a wah for bass, ......definitely

I think if you take a look at a local scene, it's probably okay to assume that it's the same or will be in other areas, especially now that the world is so "connected". I would say acoustic "open mics" probably outnumber electric ones, and this said, ensemble ones.

The main band I play in is predominently an acoustic "world" folkish kinda' thing until you get to my "role", I put textures and vibes that are more electric, "jazz fusion" "prog-rock" oriented(while I do a lot of electric "blues" a la Ry/Lowell slide too) into the mix.

I think we are on the cutting edge with this stuff(which means it'll probably catch-on paying the big bucks when I've moved on to something else).

The problem is, this hybrid scares the crap out of booking agents and promoters because, ....while they admit that it's a very cool groove, and NEVER boring and predictable.

They don't know what to call it.

Basically, I am hamstrung in what I can do, not because it's invalid, ......but because the "powers that be", are convinced that the public is largely stupid and ignorant.

....Sadly?

The majority of the music consuming public does little to prove them wrong.
