| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/15/2004 7:59:34 PM | American strat for the depth, tone, and feel. A chorus, and whah(sp) for the emotion... and a Deluxe Amp for a classic sound.
Mmmmm, a smooth blues crunch.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2004 11:00:53 AM | | rickenbacker 6 strings are great. Guitar Center in Concord CA always has one around. I pick it up and play it every time I take my son there (about every week... he loves to show off) and it's got good low action, a thin neck and slightly convex fingerboard like a fender. It has a tone not totally unlike the 12. It's abit trebly sounding, but on songs where you want this, it's great. I think Chrissy Hynde's guitar player used to play one. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2004 11:04:37 AM | Guitarman: I've got a takamina that was, at the time I bought it; the prototype acoustic/electric guitar. It plays great but sounds like crap when it's played through an amp. the pickup arrangement sucks. I don't know the model number now because I'm at work.... but it has a rosewood back, sides and fingerboard with a spruce top, bought in 1990. Do you know what people are doing now to make these sound good through an amp? | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2004 6:33:26 PM | I have a hold on all new gear untill after christmas and i get caught up on bills from christmas..(BOO!) then it is off to the G.A.S station.. guitar center roseville or southfeild, or maybe motor city guitars.. on my to get list,, some kind of over drive pedal( not sure what one yet) the evh phase 90, and a compression pedal (not sure what one yet) I also might get that tuner pedal ray was talking about. OH yes and the electro harmonics big muff pie pedal, maybe there pulsar pedal.
i think this year i am going to get a new ax also.. esp or a jackson, I like that limited eddtion jackson with the strat body with flames.. pretty sharp.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2004 8:33:47 PM | | Hey Guys: I just kind of read through this thread and wanted to offer my two cents. I have owned a bunch of different guitars over the years, Squier HM Strat, G and L Rampage, Jackson Professional, Mexican Strat, American Strat(stolen). Right now I have an American Deluxe Strat and an LP Standard. Still a strat man. For those of you starting out I would go with the standard Squier strat over the mexican Strat. Why? I found that the good Squier, priced at about $219 is a better value than the $369 mexican Strat. You'll lose money on both but you're not out of pocket on the Squier when a couple of years down the road you want something American. The Highway One is a good strat for the money and the finish is pretty cool. On my Am Dlx I have a wonderful set of schaller tuners that you just string through and clip. This is a kickin' guitar and you definitely get the extra two hundred dollars worth. The gentlemen who discussed the Floyd Rose with the block has a good point. I thought for years that you lose sustain with the Floyd because you go don't string through the guitar. This I have heard is wrong. A Les Paul has tons of sustain and you string an LP through just the bridge. The same priniciple applies to a Floyd, floating or otherwise. I just never likes the Floyd because without the Clapton block of wood trick, as the strings stretch so does the distance of the bar from the strings. What is really nice is a kahler locking trem. If you guys like the double coil strat sound I would hunt through various used guitar stores for a used G and L. I don't have mine anymore but I have seen them for less than $200. Even without the Kahler these are great guitars as are any less than recent G and L. I was glad to put my two cents in. Keep playing guys. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/20/2004 10:42:35 PM | ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTIONS JUST LOOK FOR YOUR NAME
@ NAD -----------AMPEG B-15s.............$2000 canadian
@ ELWOOD BLUES --------THE TAKAMINE---piezo picups are not very good at reproducing the acoustic sound...........suggestions: --internal condenser mic (pros )-natural sounding (cons)-cannot turnup too loud before feedback
--soundhole pickup----(pros)you can crank it (cons) not as spakly in the highs ------suggested models SUNRISE-Micheal Hedges choice Bill Lawerence-good
MY FAV use 2 of the above............ piezo or condenser for highs soundhole pickup for lows 2 jacks on the guitar-------going to a little mixer behringer 4 ch mixer under $100-----------blend to taste
2nd fav l.r. baggs para acoustic di di with built in eq and pre amp...........designed to address acoustic issues
Rickenbacker-----are cool the string spacing is kinda narrow for me my EX did a movie with "ELWOOD BLUES'-Dan AKROYD-he gave us tickets to his club free dinner drinks-sit in the VIP section for a show directly behind SLASH met George Lynch and Warren Dimartini that night
@ JIMI 77 - tuner pedal ----there is only one dude the peterson strobe(blue color) it is the best-I build guitars for a living dude trust me
PLanet Waves tuners --never tried but the have a good gear ratio 18:1 which is more accurate then the others which are 14:1 -fine tuners on a floyd are still better
@ GUITARJAM
yes, the --squier strat --is good just swithed out the pickups on one for a client to mexi strat pickups...........really helped If you want value buy a USED MEXI STRAT OR A used usa strat..........buying new guitars is a bad investment generally........because there are so many used at great discounts
Kahler trems--- are cool they have a softer feel than a floyd more like a bigsby My favs are still floyd/good floyd clone-------lo pro design for good palm muting clearance ibanez lo pro are awesome, schaller too "the clapton block"---I use more for tuning stability....... but it does add some nice fundimental to a note.
@ drwho 76
dude just email my profile on PoF and let me know what you want on your mexican strat

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/21/2004 7:30:26 PM | | oh hey.. guitarman.. what is so special about the the peterson strobe(blue color)? I know nothing about this thing and never even heard of it until now? looking at it on ebay.. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/21/2004 11:20:57 PM | @jimi77
first thanks for such a positive endorsement I learnt so much because I have been a total gearhead for twenty years
YOU EVER SEEN PINK FLOYD THE WALL ? WHEN THE CHICK GOES INTO PINK'S DRESSING ROOM AND ASKS.......
"ARE ALL THESE YOUR GUITARS?"
YES FOLKS THIS WAS THE BEGINNING OF MY ADDICTION
PETERSON strobe tuners have been around for many years ,but have been far too expensive like $800 they use a mechanical mechanism which spun sorta like the thing mechanics use for timing on a car(which i know nothing about)
Guitar techs preferred these because they are far more accurate then a standard tuner ............... In the last 3 years peterson has released a digital version for far less $$$$$$$ the vs-1 (which I have) the vs-2 (the new model in pedal form) GO ON GOOGLE TYPE PETERSON VS-1 OR TYPE VS-2
I have owned about 8 different tuners this is the one it is so accurate PEOPLE FREAK OUT WHEN THEY TRY IT
BUT FOLKS JUST LIKE ANYTHING .........It is a little bit more expensive but it will be the last tuner you will ever buy
MY MOTO: BUY THE GOOD SH*T ONCE AND FORGET ABOUT IT NO POINT BUYING THE GOOD ENOUGH AND LONGING FOR THE BETTER IN 6 MONTHS
spoken like a true VICTIM OF G.A.S.
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/21/2004 11:31:40 PM | | yeah i wish all them cheap korg digital tuners would just die. i do not know why anyone uses these peices of sh*t.... | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/21/2004 11:32:40 PM | OK......... HERE IS THE PETERSON STROBE LINK make sure you have a bib............. cause you will dool a little bit.......
http://www.petersontuners.com/products/modelvs1/index.cfm
also check out the vs-II while you are on the site
-I justify the slight extra cost this way......... tuning is the number one way for better tone..........your chord intervals chime properly which improves clarity and sustain instead of worbly out of tune poop
-being in tune will never go out of style trust me on this one .... so spend a little extra like it was a good suit...you can wear everyday for life
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/21/2004 11:34:18 PM | | being in tune is the most important thing. take it from the sound guy!!! i know these things! | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2004 4:11:27 PM | WOW the sound demo was pretty intresting.. really showed the sound clarity with the strobe. I got no prob laying down the cash if it is in my budget..I like to buy the best i can afford.. so let me understand how this thing works? the little bars on the side keep moving untill you get it in perfect tune? the slower they move the closer to being in tune you are?
i also looked at the bands that use the stobe.. pretty impressive!.. this will be on my hit list in the future.
thanks guitar and i am nads.. good advise again. i learned something new.
