| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/15/2005 4:10:02 AM | i've never heard of a boss product line have a loop station.... anything like a patch bay ????? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/15/2005 5:58:37 AM | loop station allows you to record a guitar part and play over that
the boss no I have not tried it I wanted to cause it has some very cool features | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/15/2005 7:54:46 PM | The Boss loop station is a awesome tool for playing live alone i have intigrated it into my show for my solo set. It is also great to use while practising at home. [loop station allows you to record a guitar part and play over that]for up to like 5 minutes on 11 tracks. I use it at the end of songs kinda to jam it out then walk away from the stage and sit down in the audience and listen to my creation. Is great and the audience loves it. U can loop over and over and use vocals also. so u can actually start a jam and create some heavy jams . i use it to perform a section in my show where i am soloing on fretless bass and setup the rhythm and perform on top of that. I also use it as a composing tool.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/15/2005 8:41:10 PM | | Anybody her ever used a Tascam Rhythm trainer? How good are they? Will they work with Keyboards? I double on keys, and am trying to Figure out the piano line to Come Sail Away by Styx, amongst others as well, and would like to have the Piano and keyboard parts to these songs at 95% correct if possible. By ear, im only able to nail these at about 70%. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/17/2005 2:51:40 PM | | Ok, fellas.. I have a Marshall MG 100hdfx half stack.. Its good and loud.. But I am not happy with the tone I am getting out of it.. It seems to low and fuzzy.. I have a crate GX-30M.. its has such a more clear sound in the high end.. And the lows seem to crunch a lot more. Any idea how I can get more of this sound out of my Marshall? I was thinking maybe an EQ pedal? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/17/2005 4:29:09 PM | You won't get "tone" from these amps, ....no offense, Jim, ...... but they are "toys", just amplified effects boxes, ....missing the most potent contributor to "tone" on an electric guitar, .......an all tube signal path.
Sell 'em and buy a guitar amp, ....seriously, ....a decent tube amp can be found cheap, if you do your research and avoid being a brand snob.
My 1965 Gibson GA15-RVT is an awesome tube amp, it's a "pro" amp, all tube with 'verb and tremolo...
Gibson even sells this amp now in there "Goldtone" line, ..without the trem (Actually it's just a repackaged piece o' junk Velocette), for around 2 grand....
I can't believe people fall for Gibson's BS marketing.....
The "real" thing?
$179 USD off eBay,
.....How much was the Marshall and the Crate? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/17/2005 5:45:47 PM | Thanks late.. The marshall was $600 and the crate $200.. the crate was used and from the mid 90s.. it's a great sounding amp.. everyone loves it.
Don't get me wrong The mashall dosent sound bad.. i just like a lot more highs and crunch in my playing..
Do you think i can get a tube head and use that with the marshall cabinet? I had intended to get a tube head any how down the line anyway. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/17/2005 6:51:40 PM | Heh heh, ...is it a 4 X 12?
If you can wire it for 4 ohms, ....run an 8 watt SF Fender champ through it, ....dimed.
You'll pee your pants.
G-man has mentioned this before, .....Many Traynor amps (like the YBA-1A BassMaster) from the '60s/'70s are almost the identical circuit as a "plexi" Marshall, ...which in turn was borrowed from the '50s Fender Bassman.
Lotsa' bargoons out there, if you do your research.
Some of these hand-wired tube amps that you can pick up for under 4 bills, are in fact, nearly identical to today's $3000+ "boutique amps".
Neat, eh?
Fact is, nothing but a tube amp, can do what a tube amp do......... | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/17/2005 11:54:49 PM | what do you guys think of synth guitar ? after list'n and purchasing UZEB's cd....i had died and gone to heaven man..... the synth axe was awesome dudes.... synth guitar might not be for a lot of dudes....and most of all to those who are the pure at heart that produce clean dirty sounds from hot tubes and how they pick/pull and bend, hammer, tap and well...yada yada yada.
i'm poking around looking for a synth axe....prs maybe ? gibson les paul ? who knows....
also...i have an old fender bassman that i use as well with my 5150 head....its awesome. i just need time to play again....and enjoy the gear.
this was one of my first amp when i was a kid (12 yr old ??) got the idea from jeff beck (the birds) man....thats way back !

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 12:05:15 AM | I've been using Roland GR's for about 10 years, .....I like the pads, I don't use it at all in the studio, not much live anymore either, but it's fun to have. I've had a GR-9, a GI-10 and finally ended up with a GR-30, I sometimes slave it to a Roland JV-1010 synth.
The new GK-3 tracks well with my GR-30, ...I've tried the piezo based pickups (RMC, etc.), and like the new "Ghost" system from GraphTech, ....but there aren't enough "gains" for me to justify it's cost. The Ghost system costs about 3 X the GK-3, which has come way down in price over the years and is more compatible with "tune-o-matic" style bridges than the GK-2A was, ...it also has an adjustable radius.
I still use a GK-2A on one of my strats, the GK-3 works well on my Yamaha SA800 (tune-o-matic). | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 12:27:20 AM | The current Roland synths are:
GR-33 GR-20 GI-20 (Just a MIDI interface, you require an external synth module, any brand as it is MIDI)
The GI-20 is good if you already have a lot invested in synths, samplers, etc., however, the GR-33 and the GR-20 are also MIDI devices.
Axon and Yamaha also make synths and interfaces fully compatible with the DIN-13 connectors that Roland instituted with their GK series hexophonic pickups, the DIN-13 is now the industry standard connector for guitar/synth systems. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 8:56:47 AM | JIMI
Yes Late is correct ,sell/trade in the solidstate ........real deal jimi ,it's time bro
If you like crunchy(high gain) marshall tone ---->van halen, vai, mettalica, vaughn(not high gain)look at the :
peavey 6505+ ----->this is a modded marshall sound for less dough(try a couple because they may vary)
-peavey jsx ----Satriani model-----3 channels -peavey xxx
I like these heads more than the marshall 2000.......and they are less money
---->higher ticket tones
mesa recto mesa stilletto soldano koch
Late is correct about the old hand wired stuff I own many.........
They only achieve high gain status though with a pedal or if you crank them which is too loud
I found they are good for classic rock,blues,jazz.....etc
get all of them

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 9:03:13 AM | On guitar synths...........
I have a Gr-09 I still run the guitar cable to my guitar I do not use the gk-2a cable for my guitar sound
I will look at others too soon
I run it into a Roland gt-6(a guitar amp modeling effect board) or a low gain tube overdrive pedal to get rid of the digital edge a bit..................adds a bit of grunge to the hammond sounds .....etc | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 2:21:28 PM | Thanks G man....awesome info.... was thinking bout how to get rid of that digi or plastic kind'a sound. using a tube pedal makes sence!
thanks dude ! | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 3:00:49 PM | i will confess to owning and using a gr-33/louds of fun.i only use it with the godin synth ready classical guitar though i have the gk set up for my strat. i also only use it for my solo show. thks g man for the tip on the satch crybaby.nice. i find the synth very imited in performance kinda akin to playing to much instrumental music u will lose momentum after awhile. but is a beautifull thing.some awesome sounds .can get very moody.
i will admit i lost interest big time in the synth's on Mclaughlin and Demeola. doesnt sound right to me Metheny too. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 3:04:26 PM | @stevens dude/s ...... how much work is it to set up the strat ??? will i have to drill holes on the body to fix the pickup ? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 3:16:32 PM | u can use velcro in fact if u want mine i could offer it to ya. i could put it on ebay.i will not be usin it. i don't remmber the cost of it.but if u wanted to go synth u can pick up a gr 33 for around 200 bucks these day's. anyone chek out the Mclaughlin instructional vid? i was wondering any comments on it? i think i could spilt with the gk for 50 bucks. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/18/2005 3:36:36 PM | A great sound overlooked in this thread so far is use of ebows. Ebows love tube amps .anyone use a ebow with the synth? | |
