| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 7/22/2005 12:54:39 PM | | AH.... good old Guitar Center. We finally got one in the town im in. Has been here about a year now. This store is definately customer oriented. A couple of months ago, I bought the E-MU X Board... 49 key midi controller. Was for playing Bass Lines only, as while being a bass player, I also double on keyboards. The controller started freezing up recently, oscillating on certain notes, and from middle "C" to the next octave, no matter what note I hit, a "C" was played. Felt that this was a very inferior product for the little time ive had it, and even though this was considered a software purchase, and was way beyond the 30 day money back guarentee policy, they still gave me a store credit for the full purchase amount! Great service these guys have! Needless to say, im back to using my old.... very very old Roland E.P.3 (YUK!) as my controller now. | |

I play acoustic mainly though, better than my electric playing

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 7/27/2005 3:14:54 AM | ebay can be a good source of gear if you know what you are getting or can take a chance | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 7/27/2005 9:35:41 AM | Absolutely, ....I've scored quite a few "broken", tube amps. If the problem isn't described in the auction, I ask, .....so far I've figured out what the fix was before the amp showed up at my door.
An hours work, a bit of $ for parts, ....et voila!
A vintage tube amp worth $800, ....... for $100.
If you know what you're getting into, ....it's the best way to buy.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 8/10/2005 11:16:42 AM | Thanks Pavara, and others, I took my Stratocaster to a technician at the music store and he did a set up on it, adjusted the bridge, etc. It plays more like the original when I got it-- now. The action is a lot better. He charged $50. I have another question.
I have a Fender Deluxe Hot Rod 40 Watt with a 12" speaker. I don't seem to get the tones I like. I use a Korg Pandora's Box which has amp simulation. It's not a great amp for distortion, but is so-so. It's not a bad amp for surf music like Beach Boys. See, I played through my friend's Roland Keyboard Amp 1-12", going through his amp modeling pod (red one) and got a much better bass response. I liked the tone a lot better than my amp. Anyone have a Fender Amp that has solved this problem? I want more meaty bass tones and better Eric Clapton distortion.

well you could buy a different amp......or
-a closed back extension speaker cabinet will do wonders for bass
2-use your line out ------>a powered 1x12 box like your buddies keyboard amp (kind like your amp with a sub woofer)try this
3-dump the pandora's box /pod from your signal chain digital in your chain is shrinking your dynamic range
4-buy a ibanez ts-9 turbo tube screamer the turbo one (it has an awesome bass boost)........not the reissue standard one turn the gain low and the output high.......clean boost deluxe
fujianguy......If you do this you will find what you seek...

OEM speakers are junk, toss in a Weber alnico, ....at least a 50 watter, A Jensen C12Q will do if you're cash strapped.
If it's "Cream" era Clapton tone you are going for, ...simple, ...that's a dimed 18 watt amp. Any low watt tube amp will nail this, .....it's the satuation of the finals and OT that yield this harmonically rich smooth full tone.

BUT
If you were playing live I think you would need a little more juice......or headroom to compete with a drummer

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 8/12/2005 9:40:56 AM | Fellow guitar players...!!!
I am trying to accumulate as much online info and resources for learning to play guitar (useful and free that is). If some of you have some really useful websites book marked, I'd love to know about them.
Also.... Any GP3 or GP4 users?

You forgot Robert Cray, he's better than any of them, jimmy page is a sloppy player, in my opinion he wasnt good at all just over rated, eddie van halen should be number 3, jimi hendrix 2, robert cray 1, and adrian smith or dave murray 4, eric clapton is to robotic and he plays the way he does due to robert crays influence on him. The rest of the people you have up there are jokes, in my opinion

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 8/15/2005 2:53:21 PM | i caught Peppino Dagastino last night in a small club.he was excellent ,quite a showman. just thought i would put his name out there. i was impressed.there are alot of acoustic instrumental players out there that should not be overlooked as far as greatest players. awe page was awesome for his generation. lol. i used to think zappa was one of the best but these day's listening to him i think hm maybe not same goes for hendrix.if u wanna talk about sloppy. i agree with the clapton opinion.i am wondering if the cream reunion will be worth the cash u will have to shell out to see it. | |
