| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/25/2005 9:06:11 PM | stevens^^^^^^^
my Godin acs did too
the saddle slot can be enlarged and brass spacers placed in there to off set the individual saddles to improve intonation
it is kinda a scary mod cause you have to desolder each of the piezo pieces from the board before routering the saddle slot wider
but oh what a difference
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/25/2005 9:43:16 PM | Godin acs Is a nice axe.
very interesting i would like to improve the intonation better tracking too i bet.Doing bends and tremolo. I have a A4 Bass also and where the Nut is on it is Crazy. The Friggin battery compartment is ridiculous also.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/25/2005 9:55:27 PM | i had the natural acs it is gone
my friend has the godin 5 string bass
sounds huge
i may do a compensated nut for him to improve the octaves
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/26/2005 10:32:15 AM | my a4 is the fretless and intonation is everything. could u explain compensated nut.The neck seems to be a little out. Yet getting at the nut is akward and the truss rod offers little play.. I was thinking to bring it in to be looked at.i don,t understand why godin would put the nut where it is and not include the proper tool to get at it. Thks. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/26/2005 1:38:51 PM | i meant to much play in the truss rod.where it feels to lose and not responding well when i go to tighten. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/26/2005 5:32:46 PM | stevens
compensated nut means offsetting the nut slots usally toward the bridge ie the string each take off from the nut at a slightly different point to compensate for the different string guages kinda like a compensated saddle on an acoustic
truss rod sometimes removing the truss rod nut and greasing it with vasaline can help
if the neck has too much backbow since it is a fretless it is easy to sand a bit of relief into the neck

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 7:40:32 PM | i need to clarify that i meant the truss rod nut where godin put it is at the bottom of the fretboard. is diffucult to get at. u mean to shave the bridge to bring down the action? the A5 ur freind has is fretless? i have been playing bass a year longer then guitar. i was a sax player 2 yrs before that.
fretless is gr8 for being able to explore octaves and slurs. on my taylor i am going from martin 12's to 13's the martin bluegrass string's. i was wondering if compensating the nut is nessasary? yea mon.try playing nothen but bass for a month then u well find 13's not to hard to fathom i use 11's boomer's for electric.
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 7:59:33 PM | stevens he has the fretless
trussrod is by the body? maybe get a channel routed in the body to make it more accessable
I often shave down that saddle to lower strings but prefer to do a combonation of lowering strings and tighteniing truss rod
compensated nut is done on the nut to inprove open chord
goggle earvana
to get an idea
goig from 12 to 13 may effect intonation just got to try

you are alive
oh my god people!! people come quick
I just saw Late he is alive
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 8:14:37 PM | it is the same deal on the Godin A5 Bass to adjust the truss rod is on the body side of the neck.and why did'nt godin include the allen wrench i need to get at it. and the response i get to tighten the truss rod to bring down the action has been frustrating. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 8:21:58 PM | old dan erlewine trick
grease the truss nut loosen the strings "help "the neck straight by bending it with your leg or a friend then adjust it while it is held straighter
if this does not help try lighter strings
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 8:49:28 PM |
"help "the neck straight
This is key, .......wood needs to be "hurried" some times, ....after a while you get a feel for it.
If it is so far gone it needs a heat press, ........ it's likely to be a 20% chance fix.
Get it before it gets "too bad",
...........or you're screwed.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 8:53:04 PM | http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=27798&Category=Acoustic_Guitars link for the a4 bass look at where the access to the truss rod is. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 8:59:51 PM | I had a brian moore like that
I ground an allen key quite short and rounded the one side so i could slip it in with the strings on it worked like a charm my work for you too
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/27/2005 9:01:05 PM | Truss rod? ........jeeeeez, juat listen to Joni, doing "Amelia", ......... intonation?
No problem, Pat Metheny and Jaco come in at the end, ......the song stays "killer", always was, always will be.
.........d'uh.
.........it was just a false alarm.
Sorry. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/28/2005 3:56:32 PM | I am curious if he is still using the digitech 2101 as his stage pre-amp? cause that is the last i heard I have 2 they are great sounding all the people that are snobs about anything that is a rack get really quiet when I demo mine | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/29/2005 7:56:12 AM | I do not know what he is using today.I will find out. I am not a big Metheny fan.I think he is a gr8 player and has contributed alot on the jazz guitar front and not to be missed since he is playing so close to my home. Last show i saw there was Chick Corea with Frank Gambele. That was a hot show the rythym section kicked ass but, chick was kinda lame. Same place i saw David Byrne. Now that was a fun show. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 9/29/2005 6:09:05 PM | I am interested does his music have lyrics? If not than how do we determine it is christian music? | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/1/2005 11:13:59 AM | Got my sight's set for a 1991 american strat the guitar is a solid peice of wood has some nice weight to it.Maple neck, fat frets, locking tuning heads. The guy selling it say's it is ash[swamp ash?]i was looking to see if this is true? i googled it and checked ebay but no mention of the kind of wood used. strat body's are usually ash?or maple? any ideas?it has the lance sensor pickup's single coil ya know the specialy insulated quite ones fender came out with that year. thks. i will post a pic later tonight or tomorrow. | |
|
| |
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/1/2005 7:24:43 PM | stevens have you seen the guitar or is it ebay?
strats are mostly made of ash,alder...( or sometimes softer basswood) ash varies in weight greatly you can have a light body or a very heavy one to my ears ash is a brighter sounding wood see the warmoth site for a good breakdown of different woods and their characteristics
I recorded a blues dude with that kinda setup lace sensors are very clean sounding almost have acoustic type properties they sounded great DI'd to the board for a clean sound
