whats everyone think of the Marshall JCM-900 Series 100watt?
It Is cool i just depends on what sounds good to you
also what are the best heads? mind you i am looking for a decent price not BIG bucks..
like I said before..... the peavey 6505+ is rad for the dough the new peavey penta both of these will give you more tonal options than the marshall ie more gain more low end
whats the big difference between a tube and solidstate?
tube power pushes an amp differently in a live situation the tube amp will sound more alive and push more air
is it really that big of a deal and does it change the sounds of effects pedals? pedals in front of the amp will sound a bit different specifically overdrive pedals because they push the tube pre amp in a cool way
jim go try the heads I am suggesting you be the judge

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/23/2005 8:57:58 PM | you know whos sound i really like is george lynch and yngwies..
its hard to tell in a store.. you almost need to take it home and play it with your guitar, pedals and such..I know i got the bug for one thats for sure..
I know i am going to check out the ones you mentioned..
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/23/2005 9:06:02 PM | lynch uses peavey xxx live when I saw him a couple years ago
i think the 6505+ is better

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/24/2005 4:31:50 AM | Marshall makes a solid state amp.wow, i never knew.shocking. i used to have one of those battery powered marshall's.lol which i used to stick a mic on it and play it threw the house P.A was'nt bad for lead.lol. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/24/2005 7:15:35 PM | Speaking of Yngwie Malmsteen anyone into scalloped necks? i like fat frets and i bet sustaining or ringing a note between the frets must be awesome on a scalloped fretboard.I know a freind who played some gr8 guitar back in the day[ ] now play's mostly Sitar.Offered to give me some lessons on it. I think Yngwie play's some hot stuff but, i don,t get what he benefits from the scalloped fingerboard cause he plays so fast runs.I would like to hear how he'd sound on a fretless. Only 5 day,s to Metheny.Metheny has some interesting Axes. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/24/2005 10:11:32 PM | Lucky you Stevens, going to see Pat Methany, man that guy is great. I was just listening too him in the car on the way home from a rehearsal, his band is insane.
Yngwie Malmsteen tries too hard if you ask me. Anyone who says he plays with emotion must be nuts. He is as boring to listen too as it is boring to watch paint dry or grass grow. Everything he does sounds the same, all his runs are so similar there is no real big change. I would much rather listen to Satch, Vai, Petrucci, Gilbert or Eric Johnson, those guys can really create magic with their guitars and are twice the musicians Malmsteen is, not to mention at least they all dont play just neo classical shred, Vai plays a bit of it but not much.

I respect malmsteen's technique and his singing is pretty powerful too(check out voodoo chile on the dvd)

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/28/2005 8:53:40 PM | I just spent all day servicing guitars for a big sale in my neck of the woods
check out the peavey penta amp it is very cool

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/28/2005 9:54:22 PM | Hi there, another Marcel here! I've been blasting for 32 years and I'll stop when I drop! I love to play electric guitar and play pretty much every day. Amps that are all tube are the way to go for me, I prefer to plug straight in to the amp. For practise at home I'm using a Fender Blues Junior. Pretty nice sounding amp, but the reverb sounds like s**t, can't use it at all. I would like to try a Trident from Mesa Eng. Looks and sounds good on paper. Other than that, a good Marshall goes a long way. Keep on rockin' boys and girls! Especially the girls- man it turns me on when I see a chick that just smokes on guitar!! Haven't seen too many of them though, maybe I just haven't been getting out enough. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 10/28/2005 11:38:15 PM | mmmmbaby
the trident (stiletto) is very cool very much like a Modded marshall more gain
it is less 'congested' than a mesa triple rectifier
the head is $2600 canadian ouch
similair tone with a peavey penta or 6505+ at about $1300 canadian

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/1/2005 12:45:32 PM | hey guitar dudes
here is an idea try this
I bought a 6 string bass and tuned it the same way a guitar is tuned accept the instrument is LOW LOWEST STRING= b
so basically a six string bass..... alter the second highest string down a half step now all your guitar chords work(JUST LIKE A GUITAR----you know 4th fret and open for the b string on a guitar)
great for clean stuff
and they are cheap to buy cause lots of bass players find them weird but a guitarist will be right at home using my tuning idea
see ebay ibanez sr 506 cort curbow both good values on the used market $300 about cheap fun and a great way to mix things up

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/2/2005 2:35:04 PM | So that is BADGBE? UPDATE Metheny was hot. His band was good but,for 50 bucks he played exactly 1.5 hours no encore. He started the show playing an improv into some tune using his Baritone Guitar. Basically, sort of like three, parallel two-string guitars. Its sort of got like a middle range guitar on the top, its got this high guitar in the middle and this very low guitar in the bottom. I don't know how he tunes it. He also played some wild doubleneck with a harp strung across the top of the guitar. I was a lil pissed to have paid 50 bucks .I was just getting ready to go take a few tokes for the second part of the show and it was over.DAMN. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/2/2005 2:59:03 PM | the 6 string bass tunings is
B=E=A=D=G=F#=B
this will allow you to play all your guitar chords

the harp guitar Pat Metheny was playing was probably built by Linda Manzer

Ugh Malmsteen makes me sick, he is the most boring player I have had to listen too. Everything does sound like its the same, just boring neo classical runs is all. I just bought G3 Live in Tokyo and I thought that was a waste of money too, they just butchered the tunes during the jam session.
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/3/2005 12:21:32 AM | I never saw the tokyo g3 so I cannot comment
steve vai live at astoria dvd is cool

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/3/2005 9:36:15 AM | Metheny refers to Low Nashville tuning on his Baritone guitar; anyone familier with this?it is not the nashville tuning where u replace the top four strings with 12 string set only using the octave strings. | |
