| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/17/2005 6:55:45 PM | luke the cure for G.A.S.
-buy lots of gear find your favorites and play them or -open a guitar store like I did and play your store stock and trade ins then sell them -0r custom build all the guitars you wanted to own then sell them after you' get tired of them'
TIP: my client who is a' boutique amp G.A.S guy' tried my peavey 6505+ and liked it better than his mesa boogie rectifier and it it half the $$$$$
|
| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/19/2005 7:18:14 PM | whats better the JSX or 6505+ ? man i have always been a little leary of peavy as most of my friends had there amps as a kid and i did not like them.. they fell apart.
anyone know what kind of amp frank hanon plays from tesla.. i love his sound.. I know he plays a gibson guitar. but amp???
|
| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/20/2005 12:14:31 AM | Jimi 77
that is where Peavey got a bad rap
over their little practice amps which were cheap to buy because they where not made well
trust me dude the more expensive stuff is well made made in usa
jsx or 6505+
I was going to buy the jsx then I tried the 6505 and it just had the right sizzle.........so I got that one
I would like to get a' jsx 'and a 'penta'
try them both you decide
ps the dude from Tesla...........no idea what amp he plays but if you are listening to a recording it could be anything man

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/20/2005 5:03:41 AM | | Here beside me there's a Stratocaster copy (called Westwood if that name rings any bells?), and a Laney MXD30 amp. Nothing fancy really but it works fine for me, the problem for me is that I'm a total beginner and don't even know any chords. So does anyone have any good websites where you can learn basic chords so I can get started? Preferably a site with illustrations. Thanks. :) | |
|
| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/20/2005 5:25:58 AM | thanks g-man.. your right it was the little practice amps to.. the jsx has 3 chanels i noticed..
I seen an ad for frank hannon aka tesla.. for an ADA amp??? do they still make them? also looking some photos on there unpluged tour he had a fender head with a strange name on the cabinet i couldent make out... to blurry..
jonsson8.. one of the best sights i have seen for cords, tuneing, and different stuff is
http://www.worldguitar.com/ they play the cord and show you how to place your hand.. check it out..
they even show you how to play some famous solos, and riffs good stuff

the ada is a cool pre-amp I owned one for 3 years
they are more of a live thing for guys that just want to have their presets on a button
I found for live though, it would kinda suck a bit if you needed to tweak your tone. it had all the menus and pre sets to surf through to just get to your treble or bass...etc
and the adjustments were way too jumpy ie no bass tons of bass......etc
you can find the ADA mp-1 on ebay for cheap
if you are into that kinda thing check out the Rocktron Pirhana same idea but built a lot better
also the dude from Tesla may have used it live in the early 90's when the mp-1 was popular but in the studio he is probably using his amps and that is what you hear recorded either the JSX or the 6505 would be a better way to go

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/21/2005 3:00:47 PM | G-man once again i have to give you props for knowing your stuff..
an old buddie stopped by today and told me of his tales of touring through the east coast with his band.. so i asked him...dude! tube or solid state.. he says he uses solid state for his type of music.. death metal.. however he went on and on about the 5150, and peavey.. even telling my how there lil amps where junk and there bigger stuff is Awesome well built and very sound, and MANY bands swear by them..also mentiond the messa boogie recifire as a higher priced option..
Just thought i would share that with ya and give you a pat on the back. thanks bro.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/21/2005 10:03:36 PM | Hey gang! Nice thread! ADA is longer is business but their gear is still going strong and has a huge following. I own alot of ADA gear (dang I got GAS too!). My main rack consists of an Shure ULXP wireless, a Korg DTR-2000 tuner, an ADA MP-1 pre-amp (unmodified), a Roland GP-16 processor, an ADA Pitchtraq, a Digitech ISP-33 pitch shifter, an ADA microcab cab sim/direct box and an ADA T100S all tube amplifier. All in stereo. I went with all of the Line6 stuff and ended up selling most of it. With the ADA MP-1 you can create 127 presets using Solid State,Tube Clean and Tube Distortion. These are the real (tubes) deal not a "simulation". As mentioned above, you can't walk up to it and twist a knob on whim, but once you've locked down a particular tone (actually tones; 127 of them) it's there consistantly. And you haven't really heard it until you run it through a tube amplifier! I fell in love with rack mounted equipment in the eighties before I could afford it. The MP-1 is an amazing pre-amp that's easy to work on and modifiy to get the tones your looking for. And for recording ADA's Amplulator (got one of those too) is the cabinetless way to lat down tracks. Needless to say I am a huge ADA fan. Its really too bad that they are gone and that no one has picked up where they left off. I haven't tried one but Carvin and a few other companies have a simular pre-amp/amp setup, but at a huge price increase.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/22/2005 8:57:32 AM | My Main axe is a BLue Les Paul Studio with the pickguard removed and a Dimebucker dropped in the bridge position. She is so hot!!
My other electric is an Epiphone Sheraton in natural finish. She's a 2005 model. I just got her. Her name is "Sherry" and she is nice to hold!
Acoustics are a Gibson J-45 and a 1963 Gibson LG0.
Oh yea, I also have an Epiphone Airscreamer for collection purposes.
Amp is a Fender Cybertwin. I dumped all my effects pedals. The modeling amp is all I will ever need! I love it!

welcome dudes hang out here it is a great thread
JIMI77 thanks for the props dude I am happy to help out in anyway I can with gear tips so if you have time bring your favorite guitar and try out some of those tube heads
ps the jsx has a built in noise gate which is very cool
my pick would be a great tube head with fx loop and a digitech 2101 in the loop this will provide you with high quality effects and analog noise gate

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/22/2005 11:25:02 AM | Stevens
thanks for the link I read it
I own 2 of the 2101 all of my recording clients are trying to get me to sell one
If you can find one on ebay they are a great buy/value
and the built in strobe tuner rocks !!!! combined with the foot control ......it makes an awesome gig rig
I use mine with a mesa boogie 2:90 power amp
for extra coolness factor I will use my gt trio all tube pre-amp----->2101 for effects------>mesa 2:90 power amp------> which ever speaker cabinet is right for the gig
I find this set up sh*Ts on most of the competition and in stereo......... it is like an epic movie I can go from balls out rectifier tone to fender twin style clean to roland jazz chorus funk to marshall to bluey tubes
no modeling none all tube pre amp and power amp that is the secret the 2101 has an analog/digital blend mixer built in...... so only about 15 % of my signle is converted to digital for my reverbs/delay the rest is all analog
|
| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/22/2005 2:57:52 PM | ok. I remember you talking about this digitech 2101 many, many post ago.. but... what is it exactly and what dose it do.. and what can it do? do i need to get this.. its it really complex to work and run?
oh man.. i am feeling gassy all of a sudden.

here are some 2101 links:
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:TkuMqFOVkt4J:www.amptone.com/digitech2120.htm+harmony+2101+digitech&hl=en
http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/DigiTech/2101-1.html
the 2101 is a tube preamp/effects processor rackmount with a foot control which allows you to change sound programs you can program the footcontrol to change many parameters live via the pedals or the volume pedal on the foot controller example : -while playing live you can push down on the volume controller to change the volume level of your delay or reverb or both -you could program it so it controls your gain level/ distortion level it is rather endless really....... you can control up to 10 parameters at the same time (see the instructions on your rp2000 for more on this because I am sure it will do this too) takes a bit to learn how to program but well worth the learning curve it is pretty easy to tweak live once you get used to the interface and because it is analog and digital you can get the best of both worlds most of the other digitech products are 100% digital which comprimises your tone
ps there is 6 distortion modes 3 tube and 3 solidstate the 'grunge 'distortion on the 2101 is totally over the top shred/down tune city
