I refuse to let it go!
No doubt, ....a better investment than gold.
Which model? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2005 9:39:30 PM | | My Rick is a 360-12,Took the pick guard off and had 360-12 T inside.I bought it used in 1976 so don't know how old it is.Was playing some Led Zepp.songs and wanted a 12 string.Went to a music store looking for one.The owner said he had a friend that had a used one, went to look and it was a stereo. So I still have it.been several wanting it but won't turn loose of it. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2005 10:30:47 PM | Hey guys (and girls, maybe?), I just picked up an fairly inexpensive Ibanez 12 string with amazingly good action, but I need to add an on-board pre-amp/peizo system. I use a lot of LR Baggs stuff with my other guitars but don't want to spend more on a pre-amp than I paid for the guitar as I need this guitar for just a couple of songs a night. I would like this one to have a built in pre rather than the external pre/DI's I use for my other guitars. I've been looking at a pre-amp from Artec. Has anybody had any experiences with this brand, good or bad? Do they OEM for somebody else?
Thanks TREV | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/16/2005 11:23:35 PM | | LR. Baggs is as good as any, ....really if you want the guitar to sound good, you need to use a soundhole PUP and a mic, for the PUP, Google "Sunrise" Pick-ups. Not that much more expensive, ....a helluva' wait, but the best in the biz. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/20/2005 7:31:41 PM | yes sunrise pickups sound good I have one ......I blend it with the signal from some seymour duncan sound dots it seems to work well and it is low feedback | |

|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/21/2005 2:04:09 PM | yes marcel57 the traynor is a better call me thinks
all far as an amp to die for.......... my advice try lots of amps with your favorite guitar make price no object, just try some amps
late will probably have a list of favs and if you look back on here you will see a few lists of amps to try

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 3:17:29 PM | I just bought a Line 6 Spider II...150 watts, 2 12's. I will be using it for a small gig for the first time Friday night...big show New Years... Should I have the soundman mic it, line it or both...also any other thoughts on the Line 6?...been using a Fender twin for years...powerful, but not versatile, and unreliable...going from tubes to solid state...hmmmm...strange for me....thoughts? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 3:33:26 PM | i see in ur pics u got a nice looking semi hollow body.which axe is that? semi hollow bodies love tube amps.is why i ask. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 3:39:35 PM | | Its a cheap knock off called a "Phil"...I rarely use it any more...I have a couple of Ibenez' that I like for the band....I use "Phil" for bluesy duo stuff with a bass player...but yes, it resonated very well with the twin....BIG sound | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 4:58:12 PM | bluemystery
My thoughts on solidstate for guitar.......
ok for the studio but for live I does not have the 'push ' of a tube amp
the Line 6 stuff is cool and very versitile
I prefer a good tube head with a digital fx rack in the loop I can cover most stuff that way without loosing my tubiness
here is an experiment plug the line out for your line 6 into your (tube amp running a clean sound)
do you hear how the sound 'breathes' more
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 5:05:04 PM | | Would try it...no tube amp now...got rid of it....did I hear of a tube pre amp that I could use if the solid state bothers me? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 5:09:56 PM | hey bluemystery what did you do with the twin? and do you want to sell it? let me know.thx... what was wrong with it? | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 5:12:21 PM | ^^^ tube pre-amps
gt trio-3channel -5 12ax7s tubes nice---check ebay
careful of pre amp pedals that run a little 9v adapter for power a real tube pre amp runs 250 volts to the plates and you can hear a difference
a lot of the tube sound comes from a tube power section though....
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 5:17:35 PM | | Nothing really wrong with it....except it kept breaking down on stage...finally got fed up...either replace the tubes or get a new amp...it was quite old and beat up as well... (Went through 4 twins in 2 years...all used or rentals)... Also, I needed more versatility in sounds...I am not rich so I couldn't afford a rack...Mostly I couldn't trust it anymore. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 5:21:16 PM | I have 2 mesa boogie stereo tube power amps
2:90 2:95
they rule and have been very solid I recommend them highly....and they are very reasonable on the used market
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 5:26:42 PM | fender twins/alway;s loved those amps was alway's the last thing to unload out of the van. i'd say ok out of the way/ bend and lift please make sure the door is open so i can go directly to the spot on the stage where i gotta put this thing. after the gig i would make sure i played good enough that someone would give me enough respect to carry it out for me .lol | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 6:27:16 PM | never played a twin that actual had fender speaker's. my main amp for years had celestion's had one with jensen's. i use a 100/50 watt marshall these day's. Fender 250watt PA. For acoustic when i gig these day's i mainly play acoustic. Boss loop station, roland 33 synth ,yamaha mic sim, taylor's,adamas. godin nylon synth. godin fretless bass.fender moniters. samson wireless. | |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 11:49:46 PM | my rig changes all the time
right now
gt trio all tube pre-amp----->digitech 2101 (for effects)---->mesa boogie 2:90 stereo all tube power amp(use it in mono--gives me a backup power section if I need it)
mesa boogie close back 2X12 (loaded with older celestion vintage 30's)
2 packages to haul in -1 skb 6 space rack -the 2x12 cabinet
more mangable than a combo
| |
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 12/22/2005 11:57:41 PM | another rig I like to use:
my Peavey 6505+ all tube 120 watt head (the 2 channel eddie van halen 5150 head)-----> digitech 2101 ( in the efx loop)------>marshall mid 70's 4x12 cabinet(the 'basketweave' cloth w/original celestion 25 watt greenback)
this is a really good 'modded marshall tone' rig great cabinet thump
