| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 1/13/2005 9:31:48 PM | No new gear for me either, wallet keeps saying, "nice, yes I agree but no".
First up on my wish list is a Turkish baglama saz(7 strings), these things are amazing sounding, I have access to one but it's strung lefty.
Next on the list is an Uyghur Tembor a five string instrument native to the Uyghur region of China.
No more pedals or other electronc toys on my list unless they are of the mechanical kind, .......I would like another Leslie.
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 1/13/2005 9:45:16 PM | @jimi 77 I got the 25th guitar mag
I will check out yie yie In my opinion Vai should win I have g3 with both of them Yngwie is great And Stevie Vai live at Astoria................ which if you do not have get it tomorrow the best guitar dvd ever (period)
@late for supper I have a 7 string acoustic and a 7 string electric
I custom build guitars for clients so toys for me exist in my brain and just need to be built
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 1/13/2005 11:29:23 PM | Most of my "toys" are variations of one instrument, guitar. There are instruments that the guitar descended from that open up new avenues of expression. My bread and butter is being able to cover as many genres and styles as possible, my brain has toys that I KNOW are beyond my build ability, I've only everbuilt guitars from prefabricated parts, usually Warmoth.
These are in my brain, but the po' ol' thing doesn't think it could build 'em.....
The 7 strings on a Baglama saz are arranged in three courses of two strings and a drone

A Tembor is really funky, .... 5 strings, and a 47" scale.
http://homepage.mac.com/ewald/.Pictures/POF/temburi.jpg
There are versions of both available in the Cumbus style of construction that began in Turkey in the early 1900's
http://homepage.mac.com/ewald/.Pictures/POF/temborcumbus.gif
Both of these instruments are fretted "1/4 tone", the saz actually uses nylon fishing line for frets. have you built any thing that uses such an arrangement, have you tried the 8 string Novax necks?

A micro-tonal fretboard like this might come close to a saz,

Here's some Novax instruments, I particularly like the Phil DeGruy model

closer look...

I would also love to try a Charlie Hunter model

Have you seen Linda Manzer's "Pikasso" ?

Yeah, ...... I need something that let's me think outside the box, I'd love to see some of your work, do you have any pix?

LOL.. i spent two hours in there today.. if you don't know what guitar center is.. it is like the walmart of music stores.. they lat you play anything. they had a gibson ( fark i forgot the name) but it has a big crome indian head on it for sale sweet looking! you pull anything off the shelf and play with it.. and the guy told my the company is thinking of going world wide.. that means canada.
I dont know if this qualifies as gear but i picked up a music stand and a bag of pics. that was all i allowed my self.LOL
they had the peterson strob there as well.

|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 1/15/2005 5:51:15 PM | I will post pics and website info
get this I am using my mesa boogie tri axis as a distortion pedal in front of my groove tubes trio pre amp
Ever try a $2700 canadian distortion pedal....................lol I have been experimenting with different types of gain stages lately I collect boost pedal and distortions and pre amps
my favorite trick is running several at the same time but all on lower gain settings try this if you got more than one
make sure the one with the greatest headroom output is last so you do not squish your signal too much
|
| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 1/15/2005 6:11:49 PM | I tried that, and all I got was a ear piercing wail. sends the dog running for cover and me hopping up and down scramling for the volume swicth.
what you think of the rockton hush? is that a compression pedal ? or a noise gate? they got it on sale for 69 bones right now. i need something to clam down the feed back.
|

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 1/19/2005 7:43:14 PM | | PROPS to the guitarman and his awesome guitar he just finished.. a thing of beauty.. you should be proud. | |
|
| FAV GEAR Posted: 1/20/2005 11:49:06 AM | The mesa boogie is the caddilac of Amps though I feel a Sun model T calling me. (every amp has it's own voice so it is hard to say)
Fender guitars could be the only electrics produced and I would be content.
larivee is an acoustic that plays like butter and sings like light.
all in all you won't find a better instrument for a low price than a yamaha. They are still and will be for a long time double the quality for a half of the price. no other guitar can be safely played at a campfire and on a stage the next night and still do such a beautiful job.

| FAV GEAR Posted: 1/21/2005 10:04:13 AM | | I envy all of you guys. I used to play a lot,but can't anymore. I miss it more than you can imagine.I have a Mexican made Tele. Great guitar for the money.Saving the guitar in case my boy desides he wants to play, I can still play well enough to teach him the basics. But I just wanted to remind you guys, that being able to play is a gift to be cherished, cause when it's gone it's like losing a big part of your identity. | |
|
