I think the fender tube stuff is ok try the peavey delta 30 also(and the peavey tube line too)
best advice is to figure out what you can spend and try every combination of that it will be apperent what is best
I would recommend a full tube amp though if you want any of the digital modeling stuff buy it as a seperate box -like a pedal that way you are not married to it,because the digital stuff is not holding it's value like a full tube amp does
you will thank me later for that tip

the sessions varied, I didn't want to harm the paint so I only did them for 10 - 15 minutes long, on their weakest bed too.
To the guy with the wah pedal question:
I put my wah in front of everything, it's the first effect the line from my guitar goes into. | |

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/6/2006 4:20:37 PM | any opinion on the Blues Deville/Deluxe and Hot Rod Deluxe/Deville amps?
I have a Hot Rod Deluxe I bought a few months ago. I TOTALLY dig the tone. I play my Strat straight in with very little distortion. I like a fairly clean sound with the tone, man, the TONE!!
All tube is the way to go for sure.
ps- one thing about the Fenders- they have PLASTIC input jacks! I haven't broken one, but... Cheap buggers! What would it cost to use metal jacks, fer crapssakes! You can't just swap them out either, they are soldered directly to the PCB. I suppose it COULD be done, but you would have to find the same jack, but in metal. Oh well, great tone anyhow!
My wish is for a '57 Twin, but at about $2700... | |

Tube, ONLY
....unless you have absolutely no use for touch dynamics.
- this thread is worth reading, lots of info on amps.
I've been doing sessions for the last three weeks, nothing over 12 watts, old tweed Fenders, and a '60s Gibson, ....rare gig this saturday, ...outdoor, HUGE stage...I'll use the 10 watt Gibson.
...read the thread.
Most new stuff is "disposable", ...not worth servicing.
Check out the new Epiphone 5 watt head, ....$99 USD, .......I'm buying one, ...I'm willing to bet these puppies will have a list of mods and upgrade parts (Mercury Mag. transformers, P to P boards, etc.) in no time.
Nothing sounds bigger in the studio than a dimed low watt amp, through a premium alnico 12" or 15" Speaker. Use the guitar's controls, and yer fingers, ....that's the shit. | |

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/11/2006 2:22:14 PM | anyone familier with crates new line of amps made by st louis music company? they make a 5 watt 15 and 30 watt class a circuitry.groove tubes. supposedly only for guitar center. just wondering as i picked up the 15 watt and i am thinking of returning it as the reverb suks and it runs very hot. and as far as low wattage amps.what is a good low watt amp that also has quility reverb? and a amp that runs so hot is this a problem that will burn the tubes out faster? i mean just after 10 15 mins it feels so hot like u could heat a small room.lol i noticed the 30 watt and 5 watt same thing. thks | |

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/15/2006 2:21:18 PM | Crate is SLM, ...not a big fan, ...bad rep with amp techs too. (but, BTW, ....the temps inside tubes excede the temp. on the surface of the sun)
"Other" Epiphones, ...not at all interested, they have too much "sand" (silicone=DSP CHIPS) in 'em.
Two tubes, a coupla' transformers, a few resistors and capacitors and one knob.
...How badly could they screw that up?
Keep it real, keep it toobs doods, and doodettes, ....save the sand for the beach. | |

so my Epi Flametop Les Paul Custom is the higher end of Epiphone (roughly $900 new), and if I spent money on even the low end of Gibson, it would probably be about double that
my buddy picked up a Gibson LP studio...payed about $1,000 after taxes...I couldn't f*ckin' believe it...and when you think about it...everything that COUNTS on a guitar is the same as the $2,000 plus LP's great f*ckin' deal... | |

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/22/2006 10:22:13 AM | Is it expensive to modify a guitar (i.e. adding an extra pickup)? I am looking to buy a Telecaster and if I can't find the config I want, I might just buy a used MIJ or MIA tele and add a single stacked humbucker. I would take to a guitar/music store so I'm wondering how much it costs. I'll ask a music store soon but for anyone who has done this, what is your opinion? Can you maintain the original tonal quality of the other pickups and overall quality of the guitar playing after the upgrade? Do most music stores have qualified repair people to do it or do I have to ask them about their experience (I mean, is it an easy job etc.)? | |

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/22/2006 6:56:22 PM | | This isn't a reply to your last post. I'm new on this thing and thought it amazing to find a "guitar player's club". Anyway, I haven't done much digging on the net, to tell you the truth, I don't even know where to start looking. I really don't know how reliable the information I would get would be anyway. My question is; have you ever heard of a Marshall lead 100 Mosfet head. It is somewhat smaller than a conventional Marshall head such as the Super Lead Plexi. It has an embossed kind of mock tweed cover behind the Marshall logo. I think it was in production from the late 70's to the early 80's, then stopped. I don't know why, maybe unpopularity. It's also a solid state head, I believe. I've never taken the back off. Anyway....let me know when you have time. thanks, Rye. | |

Marshall lead 100 Mosfet head
was a late 80's head an early attempt at mimicking tube heads my amp tech thinks they are kinda cool to mod
RV
do a search on ebay to get a sense of the going value | |

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/23/2006 5:31:56 PM | Question: PaulchinoII --Winnipeg, Manitoba I have a fender strat , I was originally thinking about putting a graph tech trem nut, string tree, and string saver saddles on it...
...now I'm thinking that a Floyd Rose bridge/nut combination might be better for keeping in tune...how much am I lookin' at for the Floyd? Would I be able to swap to the string savers on a Floyd?
Answer:
my advice
get a licenced lo profile floyd -they are the best for palm muting, they stay in tune better than any system out there the fine tuners don't get in the way, like the original floyds do
no need for string savers on them, they are double clamping you cut the ball end of the string off, and if you break a string you just roll a bit of slack off of the machine head end and re-clamp it on the bridge end... They stay in tune better than any system out there............... I know I install everything for people.
plus... you get the added bonus of the fine tuners, they have a tuning gear ratio of about 40:1 normal tuners are like 16:1 It is a lot easier to' tweak your tuning' with fine tuners
(side note)
" I was originally thinking about putting a graph tech trem nut, string tree, and string saver saddles on it..."
this in my opinion is only a 'half fix' It will improve your Strats ability to stay in tune, maybe about 30% It does not address the problems associated with a Strat I.E. the strat bridge: 1-pivots on 6 screws(original style) 2-the ball ends are able to move around when you depress the trem
--------------non-locking machine heads------------ On a standard Strat ...........when you depress the bar, the strings are able to loosen slack on the tuning/machine head end,and often do not re-seat themselves properly when the bar is released

I found some really good sites on amps. On one site, someone claims the Hot Rod is not "all-tube". The rectifier, effects loop and part of the reverb is apparently SS. Anyway, if anyone who wants to see any of the links I found, send me a pm and I'll give you the link. I'm looking at Fender amps so if you have one and wish to share your experiences and opinions, I'd be interested.
Btw, sorry to screw up the screen config. I changed my resolution and hit return so that seems to have solved the problem. I checked the forum suggestions/help section. | |

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/25/2006 8:54:27 AM | I use a fender hot rod coupled with a roland JC (split with a delay). Gives me the attack with the "tube-ness". I think the Hot rod is an awesome amp and has lots of secret features (play with the more drive switches when your amp is clean or with a distortion pedal and you will be surprised at how it changes the sound). The plastic jacks have held up for 300+ shows, so no complaiints yet.
I just scored a '58 Cloud 9 Les Paul(with a tiger top!) Killer guitar, but afraid to take it out of the house.
PM me if you want hear this combo in all it's distorted glory. | |

I don't think the hot rods are all tube you should email LATE he would know
I my experience they are ok as amps My advice is : to try lots of Amps ....................get past 'the Fender name thing' you do not get into real all tube amps with fender unless you buy the really expensive stuff.
If those amps work well for you buy one | |

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/25/2006 7:20:12 PM | I just wanted to comment on amps... I use a somewhat rare kind of amp KMD (Built in England with 4x12 Celestion speaker cab), and they are "hybrid" 100W amps, with a solid-state preamp and tube power amp (use Groove Tubes). I have (2) heads and 1 cabinet left. I always wanted to get a Peavey 5150, but never did. I think those are totally tube powered, but I'm not sure. They may have S/S preamps too. I also used to like Laneys... Good luck with the amp search. | |
