| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/27/2006 7:40:50 AM | Tested out the New Hughes & Kettner "Switchblade" amp last weekend. Their amp are the best I've tried but this is something else.
For another first in guitar amp history, Hughes & Kettner has packed all the features guitarists have long been dreaming of into one amp: A genuine all-tube design and the boundless versatility of amp modeling. A bona fide tube amp. With tube-driven pre and power amps. And 4 channels that put the full a***nal of classic tones at your fingertips, from spine-tingling clean and crunch to singing lead and crushing ultra saturated sound. You don’t need external effects, because reverb, delay and the most popular modulation effects are already on board in op-drawer digital quality.

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/27/2006 4:37:20 PM | Hey guy's....I stumbled across something weird that turned out to be pretty cool.
I have Crate GLX30 amp that I'm learning on. The other day I was turning the effects knob and it "stuck" between 10 & 11. The result was that it actually mixed the two effects, at least thats the way it sounded to me. Maybe it was just a fluke but I've been able to repeat it, although I haven't tried it with between say 5 & 6, for example. Has anyone else ever had any experimenting with amps and effects? Just curious. ~ Jim

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 7/27/2006 7:15:27 PM | Hi Doc in Space...So, how many watts the Switchblade pack? Is it heavy? I know, I'm a girl (but a strong one). I am looking for a good practice amp to take with me to jam sessions. Any that you would recommend?
And as for your H & K quote, about the external effects, what about flange? Now, I love the MXR Flange that EVH uses in Unchained, Ain't Talkin Bout Love, etc... But my fave flange is actually part of my rig...an ADA Digital Multi Effects rack system. It's beautiful (an oldie but goodie)...

hey dude where did you find kinmans?
cleaning solutions
if it is a modern polyurethane finish(do not try on a gibson will eat finish) rubbing alcohol is good for the grease and grime followed by a good polish

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/28/2006 12:42:54 AM | Dang, this thread has been going on a while.
I just wanted to give out my gear list to start out, so I can start following the thread lol.
Anyways, I have a few guitars: Peavey Firenza, Gibson LP '59 Custom, Ibanez SZ series (don't have it yet, but next week I will!), then I have a simple Line6 Spider II with the 12" Celestion in it. I also have a Hughes & Kettner Matrix head with a Marshall cab (4x12"Celestion G12T-75).
I'm not really good playing guitar, I have an uncle that gives me stuff he's done basically "playing with" and he doesn't want to sell them because he would lose a lot of money on them. But I would say I'm probably intermediate. I'm trying to learn how to do a little shredding/lead work with different scales and progressions, but I'm trying to build up my speed and technique at the same time.
Just for an extra note, my favorite guitarists would probably have to be Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmseen, and Steve Vai. They are very tallented guitarists, and would love to play like them, haha.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/28/2006 5:50:18 AM | I have a Epiphone Les Paul Standard with a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge, and a Seymour Duncan Jazz on the neck pickup.
I play with a BOSS SuperOverdrive and a BOSS Graphical Equalizer for my pedals, and my amp is a 1987 Marshall JCM800 2203 Lead Series 100 Watt tube head, and my cabinets are two 2x12 custom-made loaded with Celestion speakers.
I play with a power attenuator, due to the fact that I find the best tone of my amp to come out of it when my Master Volume is at 4, and I'd probably break the windows of my house without an attenuator.
My amp settings are as follows, if any of you care:
Gain: Max Bass: Max Mids: 0 for death metal, 2 for rock, and 4 for punk/hardcore stuff. Treble: 6 Master Volume: 4

So, how many watts the Switchblade pack? The switchblade comes as a 100W head. It also has a footswitch to access all the presets. You can use it as a regular amp & have your rack processed as you do now.
With regard to flange, check out the abuse I gave mine about 2:30 into the embedded song in my main page at www.soundclick.com/havoc51

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/28/2006 7:37:28 AM | | Hey paulchino I have tried every polish made and I swear by zymol it's a water based car polish that is absolutly killer and has no harsh addatives that hurt you finish as long as it is not unfinished wood. I think you can get it at wall mart. | |
|
| The guitar player's thread Posted: 7/28/2006 12:19:28 PM | ^^^^^ thanks...I'll check that out...
...I think I've found the perfect tube amp...for me ...was doing a little more dreamin' last night stumbled upon the Hughes & Kettner Puretone amp... ...knobs consist of Volume, 3 EQ's and "Growl" which I'm assuming is gain?
...I stick by the "less is more" idea...but I'm almost scared to ask how much $$$$...
...I also looked at some Vox and Hughes tube pedals... ...which are pretty much a necessity with an amp like that
...any opinions on this potential setup?

Hey Doc, I checked it out - very space age sounding! Your song sounds very Satriani-ish... interesting!
I'm going to put some of my music from my band Driven Steel on Youtube.com....I played lead and rhythm guitar and also sang lead / backups on it - 24 track recording.

you shred !!!!!! that rules
my advice to all guitar recording people.......me included
real drums.......use real drums makes all the difference
I am learning to play drums for this very reason
|
| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 8/1/2006 8:20:55 AM | You don't have to use only real drums. You just have to program them yourself. Stop using those loops that come from the manufacturer people!
A good idea would be to sit down with 3 or four of your favorite tunes and try to copy the drum track beat for beat into whatever drum machine or sequencing software you're using....
|
| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 8/1/2006 12:56:08 PM | Hey guys. I'm going to have to agree with you both on this one.
As guitarman said it would be ideal to play drums,or any instrument actually yourself if you have the means and opportunity.
On the other hand my technique is nowhere near up to snuff for my tastes at the moment. Also i no longer have drums,so enter drum machine.
As yngwie69 said if you gotta use a drum machine at least try to avoid the factory presets and make it as less "robotic" sounding as possible.
Catch you all later.

| The Guitar Players Thread Posted: 8/1/2006 2:53:26 PM | I prefer playing with world class drummers myself.
Let's get this thread back on topic, has anybody seen this?

$10,000,000+ worth.
It looks like '06 is going to be a good year for Martin & Sons, eh?
