"Checked out MoscowDude on You Tube. Seeing some of the responses to that here on the site reminds me of the "How many guitar players does it take to change a lightbulb? All of them 'cause they can all do it better."
I was thinking that too ........you just beat me to the post. thanks for your kind words and good contributions. That is why this thread is cool, it is because people contribute and keep coming back.

....he's great...certainly can play circles around me....my only problem with it.... ...the way it was done....
...straight shot of the fretboard... ...soloing over jam tracks....what's the point?
"hey ladies! look what I can do with my fingers!"
Reminds me of another vid I saw on you tube...look up Mick Barr & Zach Hill ...shredding madness...but I can appreciate this one a LITTLE more because there is an actual concept....(however far out it may be)
...actually...Moscow dude's technique is more refined than Barr's ...I'd just like to see him compose a tune and jam it out instead of just SHOWING OFF on You Tube....

Pedal Board Morley Volume IC Buffer pedal Vox Wah modded for true bypass Ross Compressor clone MI Audio Crunchbox Fulltone OCD EA Tremolo Clone DOD Digital Delay (for slapback) Line 6 echo park (for longer delay) Canare GS6 cables with neutrik connectors One spot adapters

| THE GUITAR PLAYER\'S THREAD Posted: 11/17/2006 12:18:49 PM | | Just want to say thanks to everyone for the helpful feedback from my last question. Also for some reason I can't find that guitar player from Moscoe on You tube. But I did come across a video on there called "guitar played like a piano" and wondered if anyone else saw it and what they think if they have, thanks. | |

| THE GUITAR PLAYER\'S THREAD Posted: 11/18/2006 5:01:00 PM | Has this ever happened to you?
I just got a phone call a couple of hours ago from one of the bands I work with that we're doing a 2 hour gig tonight. Great right? Ummm...only problem is I don't know one flippin song we're doing. This is the 3rd time they've pulled this crap on me...SCOUNDRELS. I've heard some of the stuff on the radio and such, others I've never even heard of. Oh well, IMPOV time again ...lol.
Time to baptize my new strat ;)
I'll let you guys know how it went later. Should be an interesting night.

My bread n' butter, ...it's called a "cold call".
The only gigs I really enjoy, ...I was a "go to" guy for these for a couple of decades, ...any style, the less familiar the better, .....no "pop" any genre, ....I'm the antithesis of the "jukebox" syndrome, .....
How well it goes depends on who good the other musicians are.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER\'S THREAD Posted: 11/18/2006 7:45:50 PM | you guys get charts or lead sheets right? are you doing covers? or 'blues jams in e'?
I can see how a drummer might be able to fake a gig cold but if you are the one suppling the chord structures you kinda need to know what they are right?

Hell no!
I'm a freakin' musician, ....after a while, ...I don't even need to know the KEY.
Dude, ...I've been doing this from the top drawer for over 3 decades, I only need notes if I was on the original session.

I can sit in with musicians from pretty much any part of the world, ...it's part of the "craft".
The only thing I won't play is "pop".
Over the years, ...music has more in common with a professional wrestling ethos, than any actual skill and ability and quality.
...Why I really lost my enthusiasm.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER\'S THREAD Posted: 11/19/2006 12:48:59 AM | just saw this thread, i gotta say... Awesome to see some musician's around!
I play electric guitar.
I use an ibanez Gio GRX170 i believe thats the model, Its got EMG 81(bridge)85(neck) with a stock single coil in the middle(its very very low output because its not active)
my amp is a peavey bandit 112, 80 watt amp, its very nice.. has a great sound for rock.
I use a digitech Death Metal Pedal, its probably the best distortion pedal i've ever used.
I like to play stuff like :Slipknot, Lamb of god, Disturbed, Pink Floyd, Led zeppelin, Ac/Dc etc..
I've been playing for about 5 years, im turning 20 in about a month and i got my first guitar at 15 i believe.

Just came back from a mad jam....buddy (sort of) wrote a tune on the guitar...we jammed it out and it was pure f*ckin' magic...
....no calling out chord progressions....he played and I picked up on it...yup a little easier for the drums......but that's what music is all about....no better rush than when everything meshes on the fly.....

exactly LATE .............
I was in a jazz fusion band for years and I prided myself in being able to do this very skill too It is meshing or falling into a musical fabric created by a GROUP of musicians.........
that is VERY different than accompaning a singer on solo guitar IE holding up all the chord changes to 30 songs you have never heard with no charts.. cold (which is what I was referring to earlier) If a musician can do this he truely is a psychic

| THE GUITAR PLAYER\'S THREAD Posted: 11/19/2006 8:26:27 AM | Nah, no chord charts or lead sheets. I make up chords on the fly really. Pretty easy to do if you know any theory and understand your scales.
The gig last nigt went .... well let me say, I'm trying to forget about it lol. We went through a few songs before we hit the stage and the rhythm guitarist decided to use a capo in a couple of songs so a lot of the songs were played in flats/sharps. No problem I thought I'll just improv some tasteful lead licks and thats that. Well problem was he forgot to put the capo on in one song so we all started playing in different keys, then when he put his capo on he forgot to take it off...lol. I don't think the audience really noticed any difference, we got a nice response but it sure frustrated the hell out of me.
Being a lead guitarist we all know that most of the heads in the audience are turned on you. Sucks when other members start playing in the wrong key than originally discussed. Makes you look like you're the one that's screwing up. Oh well, alls well that ends well. It's a new day

actually I think that is how 'avant garde jazz' actually started

We did a combination of both. Most of the stuff was in the fusion, Ballad, progressive vein really. And about the key of "E", am I the only guitarist that can't stand playing in that key? Not sure why I just don't like it, with the exception of Em. I can dish out some pretty dreamy stuff in that key.
When it boils down to it though, just give me ANY key or mode and I'll do my thing ;)

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/19/2006 6:28:44 PM | you guitar guys have to check this guy out he is 36 from Moscow (a 5 minute video) URL deleted
what do you guys think of this video
The first video had some wicked arppeggiating...very fluid, jazzy, and accurate! The 2nd video, I was digging on the orange guitar with no dots on the fingerboard and it looked like a custom humbucker in the bridge, jumbo frets too (liked the guitar, can't you tell?). Again, fluid and jazzy, with nice rock solo elements in there too. Too bad killer guitar soloing is so OUT right now... Nice, thanks for sharing!

I actually think killer guitar solos are making a comeback a bit I see lots of homemade videos on youtube of people playing Vai,satriani and dream theater......etc
Young kids like 15
just type in something like jazz fusion guitar and you will see tons of unknowns in that genre too
I think with things like the g3 tour and dvd concerts there has been a new awareness of great guitar players.
I actually like the level it is at now IE If you are into that stuff,it is easy to find I grew up in the 80's and toward the end of the decade it became kinda nauseating to goto a music store.
there was WAY to much of that gunslinger guitar guy mentality so much so that it came off as not being 'legit'
hence the public backlash that followed................ 80's shred guitar killed itself........it imploded
I truely believe the great guitar player concert stuff and videos available today are far better and more diverse.

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 11/20/2006 4:42:03 PM | Well, guitarman, I hope you're right! That would be a great thing. As I am a jazz fan, I am more of a rock fan and appreciate a little less jazz and a little more rock, maybe prog rock is what I'm talking about. There's so much more than pentatonic....
It's so cool to see young kids getting their groove on with guitars and such. It makes me want to go and practice! I got so sick of guys (not too many girls) being all full of themselves, totally pompous a**es, and it was (in the 80s) more about ego than substance. Some guitarists out in L.A. were just into trading up their guitars all the time, never keeping them for too long. I guess you can make money on that stuff if you can modify them (as you can). I always wanted to learn how to build and modify guitars, and I'm sure I will someday.
I love in that movie, Waynes World, how the music store banned "Stairway to Heaven" from being played. Hilarious. I kind of think it should have been "Rock and Roll" instead!
We can't rely on the older vets out there forever, so it's good to see a fresh batch of youngins...keeps you on your toes so to speak. Hope to see more girls out there too!

This is a "gear" thread, try to stay on topic please/moderator

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 11/22/2006 5:15:58 PM | hey guitar people !!!!!!
I saved this awesome GEAR TRICK for today to share with you............
I always wanted to try one of those little mixers ..you know the style mackie 1202,behringer 4 channel mixer......etc
as a PARALLEL EFFECTS LOOP
WOW !!! did it ever work well
1) run your mixer in your amp's efx loop on channel one balance the levels so you have unity gain (the efx loop in or out sounds the same)
2)use the 'send 'on the mixer to a delay, reverb, chorus pedal etc(out)-----> to channel 2 on the mixer ...blend in effect to taste (make sure the effect is 100% wet to avoid phase problems of doubling the original guitar signal) 3) master out on mixer------>efx loop return on your amp(remember to pan mixer properly ...this is a mono signal.....I did hard pan left, for all signals
mixer trick this can sound amazing my friends !!!!! ___________________________________________________________________________ variations on the theme................. 1) do another signal send to another efx unit for channel strip 3 on the mixer, blenad that in too
2) try adjusting the eq on the mixer for your straight signal on channel one eg a bass or treble boost
3)adjust the level -of straight signal on ch.1 of the mixer -or master channel on mixer use as an overall amp master volume for late nights
4)use the panning on the mixer to create a stereo mix, feed it to 2 amps
5) try the mixer efx BEFORE the amp
lots of possiblities
I use a little $95 behringer mixer for my experiment,It blew me away how well it worked for this application.........just start off getting your 'unity gain' .......... test by bypassing the efx loop and bringing it back in with the mixer inline, the tone should be the same.........then experiment with sends to pedals

this mixer trick is used by Steve Morse he even had a rig where he could adjust the various effects blends via foot pedals or volume controls.
I have not employed this system in a live situation yet, because it is a little more complicated of a wiring schematic......... I have used it in my studio with excellent results

Don't forget you can loop out on your mixer using the aux's as well(+ sub outs and on board effects). Could have other potential blends. Oooo the possibilities....
Once again...great thread.
Question for anyone out there...I have to replace my 2 12" celestions in my Flextone III( 2 x 75 watt @ 8 ohms). What are everyones fav guitar speakers out there?
