ItsMeDog,

Cpl things can cause that fretting out, usually a combination of them. Lots of boltnecks can take a "rising tongue" where the neck changes from the contour back to the square heel, this is seen from looking down the side of the neck from the nut to the bridge, much like sighting a rifle, you can see if it takes an "upbow" about the 14th or 15th fret or so, sometimes straightening out the neck with the truss rod then raising the action a bit will make this better but it won't make it go away. Necks that do this are usually considered "terminal" meaning they cannot be fixed without a refret and levelling of the fretboard before installing the new frets. If it's not too awful bad, a fret levelling and recrown will make this liveable and in many not too severe cases, fix it completely.

Your action could be set just too low.

You have a lot of fretwear below where the fretting out occurs.

You have uneven frets where the fretting out occurs.

In most cases, raising the action slightly will make it quit doing that.

You could also consider a replacement neck, either another Fender neck from ebay, or if you really want to do yourself good, a Warmoth would be a great choice. Refretting a neck that is already so-so would just be throwing good money after bad, considering the prices of replacement necks. Used, a Warmoth in good condition would be cheaper than a good fret job and a practical way to fix your guitar.

Has anyone tried hookin up a Tube Pre Amp to a solid state amp?I was on a country forum and some guys have suggested this method,They say increases volume and tone on clean channel.See I am trying to get away from pedals and get a natural distortion without goin out and buying a tube amp,any tips Thanks

If you want square-wave clipping, no problem, ...but a SS pre can do the same thing, ....if you want "tube warmth" ...not gonna' do it.

The only way this actually can work is with something like a Garnet Herzog, which isn't a preamp, it's an amp with a line-level transformer tap. And unless you're playing live, ...there's no point in "upping" the SPL anyway.

The "magic" that happens with tubes happens in the output stage between the tube, transformer, and speakers, it's dynamic and not something that can be "faked" with any of the "modelling" amps or "pods".

While it is possible to get a similar sound, it is not possible to get the same interaction, if you've never actually done this with a REAL amp, you won't know the difference, if you have, .....you will.

I would use a good ($3000+) solid state pre in front of a tube amp once in a while, again, unless you've had access to pro stuff, you won't know why.

Anyone around here know if you can get that "sitar" sound on a RP-200A by (Digitech)?

I doubt it, even a synth adaptor like a Roland GK/GR rig doesn't do much more than a blatant "pretend" sounding sitar patch, any "sitar effect" doesn't have any interactivity, ....sounds "sorta' like a sitar-ish kinda' sound, ...but not even close IMO as the "effect" is soley dependant on signal attack/decay and not the strings themself.

A Dano (...or Jerry Jones, or recently some very cheap -$300- "knock-offs")/Corel style sitar-guitar comes pretty close but there are huge intonation problems. Gotoh makes a Danalectro style retrofit guitar/sitar bridge for around $85 USD.

There is a company in Germany (EYB) that makes a retrofit guitar/sitar bridge that both gets the sound and can be intonated perfectly, but it's pretty expensive and as it's not a big company, ...hard to find in N. America -

never owned a Mexi Strat, but have two Americans. Just picked up a Custom Shop Closet Classic - Strat Pro. Best dam Strat I ever played. It blows my 84 standard out of the water! And seems to weigh half as much!

Hey, thanks for the compliments guys...It took a long time (first build ever) but I did a lot of research, took my time, learned a lot and now it's time to reap the benefits :) Sounds and plays really nice.

The tuners are allparts, but nothing came from warmoth(way too pricey)
The body's alder(not sure who made it-ebay seller never specified) and finished in wimbledon white- gt350 colour.
Neck - Mighty Mite- Birdseye maple/ebony board/ abalone dots/ jumbo frets
Wilkinson vintage trem/ GFS overwound strat pickups/ Vintage staggered tuners(no string trees)/ graphtec nut/ CTS pots, orange drops, switchcraft switch

No string trees/ graphtec nut = no trem setter and back to zero every time, even if you just lean on it a bit much while palm muting. Very functional. I'm not a big trem user, but it's there.

Paul- GFS p/u's are the best deal going for pickups IMO. I think I paid 70 bucks for the set. My texas special bridge p/u in my 72 tele reissue cost me 75. These sound equally as awesome.

StewMac specifies 3 grades of buffing compound in their guide for polishing lacquer. Very expensive too. I used my Meguires paint cleaner/ polish/ wax I use on my Mustang GT cobra convertible instead to buff after I got up to 2000 grit wet sanding. Boom! Like instant daylight. Probably used about 1/2 fl oz of each. Much better than having 99.9% left over and nowhere to use it.

A friend gave me this tip so I might as well pass it on. Get a jewellers polishing cloth, and some fretboard conditioner (unlesss you have a maple board, in which case dont bother conditioning... n/a) and polish the crap out of your frets when you do your string changes. Take em all off, polish, condition, and put new ropes on. Works great and any other axe you'll play will pale by comparison as far as smoothness. Truly incredible little trick:) Cloths are kind of hard to find though...but The Bay carries them for around 12 bucks.

Hey Guys!

I'm having issues with my Schecter Omen 6. Played great until about a month ago-when the e and d strings would not tune. Sounded very tinny-so I took it in and got the neck straightened (it was a little bowed). It sounds a bit better now, except that the e,a and d strings still sound a little flat and rattly...any ideas?!!!

without seeing it ,it is hard to tell what is going on with your guitar.
I would bring it back to the tech and go through it with him,it might be a simple adjustment

when I was living in L.A.
this was one of the coolest vintage music gear shops
BLACK MARKET MUSIC - HOLLYWOOD ( see above link )
- rows and rows of cool vintage gear
-'back line amps ' from famous touring bands, for sale
- stacks of vintage marshalls , fender amps, mesa boogies, Bogners....etc
- bradshaw rigs
- analog fx racks
- analog everything
- oodles of cheap funky vintage gear too

manned by your standard 'indie lifer musicians types' with pizza boxes

we have no music gear shops like this here..........sigh

I guess it is no more now, according to this video

Wow...watched the video; that place must've been like mecca for you back in LA. Too bad it's gone:( Hope you were able to afford the occasional tasty vintage item when you were there.

Got a question re: solid state amps. I've got an old Traynor ts 200 amp head; which is a sweet clean amp with nearly unlimited headroom, but lately it seems I'm not getting the same amount of volume out of it. I've tried bypassing the pedals and going straight to the amp to see if it's something in the chain, but same results. Not a huge loss in volume, but it's noticeable enough to think there's something going.

Anyone got any ideas?

black market music was a cool' dusty funky vintage gear store'
the kinda place a musician would like to hang out on any afternoon.
there would be stacks of old marshall plexis, everything really
now most store consist of selling boxes built in china, korea
I go in to modern gear stores now and I often sense a 'vibe vaccum/blackhole'

tips on your traynor........
sight unseen,I have no idea, give your local amp tech a bit of biz,he has mouths to feed too

guitarman100, or any one with input...

Go0ing to trade in my gear for a mesa boogie or marshal head. I'll worries about the cabinet later.

Again, I'm mainly looking for a screaming metal sound.

Questions.

One marshal or mesa boogie head?

Two, what should I get for distortion pedals pedals. I like the pedal boards, but I here I should stay away from them.

Any thoughts.

Peavey 6505 head...that way you're not paying outrageous amounts for a name.....

...I've been doing some research on distortion pedals for my bass....it really all depends if you want a true overdrive pedal or a "fuzz" pedal....Vox and H&K make some tube pedals that look interesting.....

I think the peavey 6505 is what G-man suggested once before. Is 900 a good price for it?

I would like a pedal that allows for a few different sounds. From a heavier grunge to a cleaner compressed sound. I would like to have this in a board, rather then a daisy chain of peddles.

hey dudes !!!!!

ULAO
here is my favorite thing.......
-go to the music stores with your main guitar......perferrably on an off day like a tuesday afternoon or wednesday afternoon (the store will be less busy)
-goto the 3 main stores, the same day
-try out a least 10 amps for 5-10 mins each
-be scientific and through in your assessment of the tone and feel of the amps

purchase the right amp,do the pedal search on a seperate day

ps
$900 Us is probably ok for the 6505 (I live in canada, the $$$ is different)
my advice buy the 6505+,not the 6505 (6505+ has seperate tone controls for each channel=better)
if that is 6505+ is to your liking......
also try the other peaveys in the same price range
-jsx
-xxx
-penta

try lots of different brands and amps

I may have to do that.

the 900 was for the +, I checked. I don't have that to drop on a head alone if I'm considering a cabinet. I guess ill have to play through one to see what I'm missing when shopping.

Wow 6505 plus with a half stack and free shipping. for
1,799.99

I don't know if I can pass that up. Even if I found a better deal on a head. Once I rent a truck to get the cabinet I may wish I dropped for this deal.

considering. ...
