you could try cleaning the neck with "Murphy's soap' It may work,I have never tried it
I usually leave the grime on the neck -I call it 'road miles'
I light rub with 0000 steel wool can help clean off the 'dead skin lumpy bumpies'

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 4/30/2008 8:03:49 PM | | I just bought a Marshall JVM 410H and a 1960Lead Cab. Wow... I've never been so happy in my life! The versatility is amazing, from the cleanest clean tone Marshall has ever produced to the heaviest distortion. And I really like the emulated line out. I have it run into a firewire device and my band records live as we jam, AND IT SOUNDS AWESOME! I highly recommend this beauty. | |

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 5/1/2008 9:21:24 PM | Amp:Fender Deluxe Reverb 1974 silvertop-freakin beutiful recently picked up a Digitech RP 350 has a lot of options-replications of 30 effects pedals , replications of classic amps and stacks-some of the stuff sounds plastic but if you learn how to tweak it sounds good , some of the replications are fantastic the FUZZFACE is amazing and wahs are cool.... | |

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 5/2/2008 5:20:40 AM | I've gone from once having loads of guitars, pedals and amps to now owning two classical guitars and ten fingers.
I was hiding my poor playing behind effects and it forced me to improve by ditching all the electrical gear.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 5/2/2008 8:06:08 AM | Kramer Focus 6000 superstrat - I think it's an 1987 or 88 model. Totally overhauled and rewired with new pots and pickups.
Peavey TransFex Pro 212s combo amp. - Loud, lots of headroom, gives me every sound I need for doing covers with the band I play in.
Yamaha DG-Stomp - my back-up that goes into the PA if my amp fails, also serves as a MIDI footswitcher for changing my presets on the Peavey amp.

Yo on that...I'm not huge into pedals...and my favorite pups are the ones that let the acoustics of the instrument shine through....vintage all the way...I can stand them fancy basses with active pups that just sound like a damn keyboard.....
Finding a distortion pedal that actually sounds good is a f*ckin' chore....

| THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD Posted: 5/2/2008 11:36:16 AM | Well, I've had a lot of guitars over the years, but 2 of the the ones I have now are my faves: Acoustic: Fender DG31 black cut-away w/ fishman pickups Electric: Epiphone Les Paul Custom (black w/ gold pickups)
Didn't feel like lugging around a big heavy amp either, so I picked up a Roland Micro-Cube w/effects. Been very impressed with it.
I also have an Ibanez GRS-200 Roadster Series bass (black) which really does a nice job. It's got this "boom" function on it for those really meaty bass sounds for certain songs, but also has a really nice high end sound for songs that require that. I just record everything direct into Cubase via a Behringer UB1002FX mini-mixer. For acoustic/vocals I use an AKG c1000s condenser.

I hear ya' too !!....... I still love electric guitar but have found that the better my playing skills get , the less stuff I want between my guitar and amp, all I have now is an Ibanez analog delay and an MXR phase 90 into a Marshall JCM 800...after that its all up to me... I've found that "working out" on a steel string acoustic , where you have to work for every note, is a great benefit to strengthen my playing skills....theres all kinds of cool flat picking stuff out there from bluegrass to gypsy jazz etc...

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 5/4/2008 9:30:31 PM | the analogue kid
hey man ....is the '71 Traynor YBA-1 ----the old style? or the 'newer traynor style'?---IE the newer 70's ones had silver bumper striping on the side.....like an old school 50's kitchen table
the older ones were more like a fender /marshall with the head being black tolex w/round edges
either way $500 is ok these days(if it is working well) they go for $400 on ebay + shipping..................

Guitars: Ibanez RG321MH - with a Dimarzio D-Sonic in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck Epiphone Les Paul - with set up with outrageously high action My strings are Ernie Ball Regular Slinkeys and my picks are Dunlop Jazz III's.
Amps: Crate GX-15R - Yeah, I know...Crate....ew. Peavey 6505+ - Coming soon...very soon!!!
Effects: Boss Me-30 - eh, it's decent. ISP Decimator - Coming soon. I'm definitely going to need it for the insane amount of gain available on the 6505.

| The guitar player's thread Posted: 5/9/2008 9:34:00 AM | Soooo....do 2 8 ohm cabs run in series = 16 ohm? buddy modded the Traynor...second speaker jack turned into a switch between 8 & 16 ohm....fairly new Tadd EL-34 tubes in there....I've heard KT-88's sound deadly in the Eden amp....how often should the tubes be changed?
who needs a damn distortion pedal...just crank the pre-amp!!!!! oh and G-Man...it's the "pop top" style
|
| The guitar player's thread Posted: 5/9/2008 7:24:15 PM | hey man here is a rule to remember ohms parellel= "half it" series= "add it"
re: Soooo....do 2 8 ohm cabs run in series = 16 ohm? YES
pop top was from the 70's the transformer are smaller in the 70--the late 60's style have big meaty transformers I don't have a pop top 70's one--so I am limited with my knowledge of them
tube changing schedule.......... depends on the tubes IE -brand /amount of use /how loud-how often played----etc
change tubes when the amp starts to sound "spongy/indistinct"

| The guitar player's [GEAR] thread Posted: 5/9/2008 11:08:58 PM | Well the rig i run is my Strat, or Carvin dc 400, S.D. Curlee or whatever guitar i want to play. The only pedal i like is the ibanez tube screamer and sometimes my '68 morley power wah i just dont like too many effects. Straight to my '74 pro reverb 2-12. The only thing im picky about is my strings on my electrics i use d'addario strings the 9.5 size. On my dean performer acoustic I use elixir size 11 but im gonig to try the new cleartones the coating is chemically bonded to the strings . That seems to work for anyknid of music I play like jazz, blues, rock not death metal but most rock, funk, reggae Rock on | |

You know it! The more I play it...the more impressed I get....got the first and second channels "bridged" with a patch chord to a get a good mix of the highs and lows....second volume pot dedicated to the second channel makes it real easy to dial in those highs....especially crucial for my 15" cab.....
eq is a breaze... | |
