WELCOME NATIVE AMERICANS....... This is wonderful. I am so excited to be apart of this Thread. It would be wonderful to learn about your culture and way of life. It takes all of us to make this world. Of course we do not agree with everyone all the time but that is where acceptance of out fellowman comes in.

WELCOME .... WELCOME MY FELLOW MAN

hau eh! osiyo!

my mom is from south dakota and illinois and is irish and scottish. my dad was from oklahoma and was 1/4 quapaw, 1/4 miami, 1/8 cherokee and irish. i am somewhat traditional, depending on which tribal culture we are talking about.

i moved out to missouri from connecticut and am living with my white relatives here, so i don't know the native community round-about. i'll fix that someday when it feels like a good time to. i do miss the "at-home" feeling of powwows and being with native folks.

Oh, what a wonderful thread!!!

Hi everyone, so nice to meet you all. Cree woman here, with heritage from Cumberland House, Sask. (lots of Crees here, where there's trees, there's Crees!!!)

Worked almost exclusively for the last five years with the Mi'kmaq here in Nova Scotia. The greatest folks with the greatest sense of humour and willingness to accept any of the People.

LOL, come to think of it, that could be said of any of the Peoples.

Aww Raven, now I'm blushing. ;)

Boozhoo!

I'm Ojibway from Nipissing, raised in Sudbury Ontario. I'm from the Black Bear Clan, and I've lived all over, from Calgary to Toronto to Christian Island and was active for many years in the Native community in Toronto through Anishinabek Health Toronto, their Street Patrol, Council Fire Native Cultural Centre, and Posawewejek, a women's hand drum group. I'm moved back to Sudbury now to get my education in Music.

Raven's right - the threads are getting bloody at times, and the ingnorance and ill-faith is sometimes intimidating, depressing and irritating, but I'm doing my best (and so are others, brown and otherwise) to share good information with a good heart and mind. Except for the occassional time when I just slash my opponent to bits without sharing anything, but this is reserved for when I lose my patience with the haters... ;) Wrowr!

Come on in! Share your information with the rest of us, and help us share our ideologies with the masses, who remain ignorant, sometimes willingly, and sometimes not.

Hola - did that sound like a commercial? ;)

Hey, Spudmama, does your name have anything to do with the Wild Potato Clan?
There's a pretty great powwow in Mammoth Spring (just missed this year's) sponsored by the Amonsoquath Tsalagi. I got info on them, if you want it.
And there was a pretty good one at Eureka Springs at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Reserve. Used to be one around Clinton, but haven't heard anything from them in a couple of years. Gas costs too much to try to make it to Tahlequah or points west or south for a granny playing "single mom", these days. Think we mixed-breeds could hit the boys in DC up with a Granny's Council and get things straightened out pretty quick?

i am stone sensitive, a grand old cherokee traditional gift, and i gathered stones for a ceremonialist who was making medicine bundles. cherokee was his first language but he hadn't spoken it since his childhood in north carolina.

because my family had not named me, he decided to thank me with one, but he was too vain to look anything up. in an attempt to name me "stone woman" (nuya ageya) he accidentally named me "potato woman" (nuna ageya).

years later when i came online (mid-90s) other cherokees told me. i actually rolled on the floor laughing.

Hey, nIsh! I was a CD counselor for 12 years. Worked with women's issues, used some indigenous stuff (real basic things like feathering, minerals, herbs, etc) there and in the women's prison where I build on therapeutic community concepts in working with women who are about to parole in the Pre-Release program. Worked with a battered women's shelter, for 2+ years while going to college in the 80's (at 35). Trust I will be allowed to celebrate 22 years sobriety Aug 1, and I still attend meetings. Keep up the good work, ma'am!

Hi...

I thought I'd throw my two bits in, as appropriate...

My mother's family is of Delaware descent, and father's is Welsh. Popular family rumour has it the great-grandparents met in Dunnville, Ont. - G-G-dad was a carny (no lie!) & the, as the papers like to put it, the show came to town. But in this case, it didn't leave! :)

Ron

PS I've got a poetry string as well (under "macewen" - I know, really creative title); check it out if you have a few minutes to wander...

Oh wow, this is awesome! I'm relatively new to the site and I'm happy to have stumbled upon this thread.

I'm Blackfoot and hail from the Piikani Band out of Brocket, Alberta. I was born in Calgary but I only spent 11 months there because I was privately adopted. I grew up in Vancouver, so I now proudly consider myself an honourary Vancouverite.

Actually on my mum's side, there is Blackfoot, Sarsee, Irish, and surprisingly Choctaw from Oklahoma! lol. The only thing I know about my birth father is that he was 'white'.

Due to *creative* Federal Government logistics, I am considered full status (100%) because the rules were different in the 70's than they are now. My birth mother - who married white and whose status was later reinstated- is now considered 75%, and my 1/2 siblings are considered 50%. Does this make sense to you too?

What a wonderful idea..sometimes we seem to get lost in the shuffle..I am originally from the East and part Celt part Iroquois..I know, grins, the light light blonde hair and gray-green eyes seem to tell me the Celt part ran faster..or that is what my granny said..I have done some research and do have factual connections..but no official connections..which is sad. I stood on a mountain in Idaho in embroidered and fringed white doeskin..with a hawk crying to me overhead and a chipmunk sitting at my foot...truly a moment of awe..I do chat occasionally on another site..but love all this diversion...walk in the light...
