Tim, can you please read my last post and make a reasonable argument defending your assertion that this is pro-choice hypocrisy...

I don't know how any one can make the argument any clearer....
If a fetus is NOT a human being for purposes of abortion, then a fetus is NOT a human being for purposes of criminal victimization, to legislate dual definitions for purposes of pandering is utter hypocrisy. To me that is as clear and concise as it can possibly be stated.

"It is not as simple as a "choice". There is another element involved, the fetus."

i agree, so much so that it would take a page to explain my position.

in any event, you cant legislate ethics or morality, which makes either position or variation thereof a moot point.

i like adoption myself - lots of love to go around, but what does my position have to do with the discussion on this thread?

I'm not saying whether abortion is right or wrong, I'm just saying pick a single legal definition of the same scientific phenomenon and stick with it....
Most people can accept there are things that go on that they disagree with, what most people don't approve of is partiality or favoritism, or conflicting criteria within the legal system. What the law lacks in this instance is consistency and continuity.

^....YES, i would agree with this!!!...abortion should be conducted only in special circumstances and reviewed by an ethics committee.......but i don't think we ought to be using the flimsy excuse that a fetus can be aborted because it doesn't constitute something human!!!

Ethics committee?? are you kidding?? When was the last time you ever saw an ethical "ethics committee"? Its all Politics, depends on who's running the big show at the time. in this case the Republicans, 6 years ago, the Democrats.

Nothing ethical about switching back and forth depending on which way the Fed. Gov. swings.

another thing: what you describe is erily similar to radicalist Muslims who dictate which freedoms should be granted to which individuals and base it on their loose interpretation of religious law. cause after all, this is nothing more than religious beliefs that the few are trying to force on the masses at Home.

Muslim extremismn, or Christian extremismn, whats the difference?

great idea tim but i'm thinking (not wanting to set any dangerous precedents here) that as long as this issue continues to have a polarizing effect on voters, politicians/lawmakers will almost always skew the lines.

Sounds like a great way to keep it controversial....
