Chops: John Petrucci
Thank You!...
I was really wondering how far I'd have to read before someone mentioned him. And he clearly is the best over all guitarist around today.
but, everyone knows that the majority of the best guitarists are NOT even in bands they're studio musicians or very unknown players outside of musicians and a select small following.
I'm also pretty sure i never read Jason Becker's name mentioned anywhere.
Sloppiest player awards can go to:
Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix.
Most Mind Blowing *LIVE* Guitarist:
Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Biggest prick who needs to make up for his lack of genitals with his guitar:
Yngwie Malmsteen | |

I totally agree on this statement. Yngwie Malmsteen as a 'technician' has gone very far but as far as depth he needs big changes. The guy knows every little trick there is to playing the instrument, but if u heard most of his albums, there's something monotonous in his music. In the 80s, the collective mind of rock/metal fans embraced his Neo-Classical Metal, but nowadays our collective conscience may regard that style as quite trite. I used to be a big Malmsteen's fan and heard he once gave 29 concerts in 31 days in Scandinavia.

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/6/2005 10:10:50 PM | Pat Martino is a very unique man, he became a master of the guitar, twice.
He sufferred a brain aneurism, completely losing the ability to play.
And became a master, all over again.
Howard Roberts is cool, I was a twelve year old kid when I first saw him play, ...'74.
He was demonstrating Gibson guitars at a club in Winnipeg, I got to play three tunes with him.
That was the first time I played in a bar.

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/6/2005 10:19:51 PM | | Very Kool Late,my teacher was taught by Howard,I meet Howard when he did one of his last seminars,he was ill but after the seminar we all went out to a jazz club to listen to a guitar player named Benny Garcia...Howard was a very kool kat,was double fisting his drinks all night..lol | |

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/6/2005 10:29:35 PM | Ted Greene was probably one of the best teachers ever, he just passed away this summer.
His books: "Chord Chemistry" and "Modern Chord Progressions", both published in the '70s; were the basis of my self-teaching back then. He was an amazing player, never toured.
He had an unbelieveable grasp of the harmonic.
He did put out one album, "Solo Guitar", .......it's a "must have" for anybody serious about the instrument.

|
| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/6/2005 11:43:14 PM | Uh, ...hate to break this too you, ...he never played guitar.
He was a violinist, probably one of the best that ever lived, but I'm willing to bet that he was a shitty guitar player.

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/7/2005 1:54:51 PM | Jimi Hendrix was great and would have gotten better had he lived.
However, Phil Keaggy is the best electric guitarist that ever lived.
Acoustic --the best are Andres Segovia and Phil Keaggy. A lot of people never heard of Phil. He is not a showboat and not a big ego.
|
| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/8/2005 9:07:33 AM | I was just about to mention that dreamboat..when asked who he thought the best
guitarist was, Jimi Hendrix said it was Phil Keaggy, being a christian is why so few have
heard of him..count me in as saying Keaggy is 2nd to none with a guitar..Ive seen him
live and up close--one squared away musician.
