| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/13/2004 8:28:36 PM | Jimi Hendrix George Harrison Jimi Page Randy Rhodes Cliff Burton-did not specify Bass or guitar Randy Bachman Slash Dave Mustaine Dimebag Mr. Wilde EVH this list could go on forever, just take into account that the best guitarist of all time changed the way their instrument was played. CHUCK BERRY and that they have all left behind a legacy that all present and future guitarists can only dream of achieving | |

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/18/2004 6:39:55 PM | Paul Gilbert is freaking rediculous!!! Fast and accurate, I only wish!!
I'm stoked to see Jimmy P. on so many lists!! I've grown up listening to singer/songwriters and I've got to tell you, He's 2nd to none on progressions and creative licks. he's the man, and the big reason why led zepplin is the greatest band ever
YOu should check out Jimmy Paige's interview on Jeff Buckley! If you didnt' like buckley before seeing it, you definately will after. Jimmy P. knows talent when he sees it.

|
| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/18/2004 10:21:03 PM | O.k.. So let me first say, I am a die hard Zep Fan... The let me say this.. Jimi aint no guitar god, He's sloppy, uses his pinkie only once in a while. His strength was in composition, recording/production.
NOw let me say this again.. Danny Gatton..

dosent matter on his tec style.. if that was the case then jimi hendrix, george lynch, and bb king would be out as well.
but for the record i am not sure who Danny Gatton is.. enlighten me.. maybe i know his stuff?
|
| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/19/2004 10:40:54 AM | I think Danny Gatton is the teLecaster guy who plays a folky rhythm & blues chicken pickin thing. If he is who I think he is, he's a freak. Of course he is..
I dont think Paige used his pinky much either. That just goes to show how much he could do using only 3 fingers!! LoL He's awesome. It's not the flawless technique that's gonna get you at the top of the list, it's what it sounds like! I dont put on my zep cds or Mr. Big tapes listening for proper pinky usage.

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/19/2004 1:36:12 PM | Double -bahhhh with Jimi here ...
So J.P. started doing Jingles in Studios and he knew his Production End like no one else, but there is next to no one except Hendrix that could make a Guitar sing like that ...
All 'Led Zep' Tunes I have were persoanlly remastered by Jimmy Page. Talking about State of the Art 'AAD' Transfers ...

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/19/2004 9:32:47 PM | Well..Now that I have been scolded for dis'n Mr.Page, I have to say, There is no one in the rock world who I love more than Jimi..but the thread is greatest Guitarist....Not biggest Idol.
Danny Gatton, before he killed himself, was a Jazz,Rockabilly guy who's technique was sooooo f'n precise and blinding and all over the fretboard, that he truely could not be kept up with. Try playing along. Redneck Jazz ( out of Print..but you can find it all over ) Cruisin Dueces: His best produced work, but doesn't capture it all 44 Elvira St...mostly just the same stuff of pre Cruisin Dueces, lacks production..but good stuff. and then there is his post mortem release: Portraits: this is the one you need to get. shows all his tricks If I had to say any two: Redneck Jazz and Portraits. Look up Big Mo records.
Back to Jimi...After I first heard Bill Haley, who introduced me to guitar, the second thing that I heard was Jimi Page. I believe I have mastered his style, ( with exception to the solo on Since I've been loving you ) I have studied alternate tunings and his fingerings, I've studied Roy Harper, and I've played in 3 zep cover bands. I am still not impressed. However..Jimi is My Soul. But he aint the best.

as for danny? i aint knocking him.. but ask any number of people on the street and i bet jimi P pops up 99% of the time. also it is not the style or tecniqe the person plays that makes them great it is the soul thay put in to it.. many thousands can play mosart or beethoven.. how many can write it. ahh! LOL.

| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/20/2004 5:27:03 PM | I still say it's a matter of personal preference. I'm personally not a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix, or Satch and Johnson for that matter, but both have found their niche in their respective genres. Imagine yourself writing "Little Wing", or "Purple Haze".
Page was the riff meister, and what does it for me is his fingerstyle accoustic, and not his monster riffs.
I'm personally a huge fan of all the classic guitar players nowadays, without personal preference, but was weened on of Rhodes, S.R.V and Halen, because they were from the era of my youth.
Gawd even Nancy Wilson from heart is great as far as I'm concerned, and so was George Harrison R.IP.

yes no one mentiond the wilson sisters.. good looking out.
|
| Best Guitarist of All time Posted: 12/20/2004 11:49:14 PM | Why's it always have to be the same artists?
Anyway, here's my take.
In no particular order:
Django Reinhardt Ritchie Blackmore Jimmy Johnson Billy Zoom Johnny Ramone Dave Alvin Deke Dickerson And all of the Hollywood session musicians who noone's ever heard of...
Just an opinion and a very non-mainstream one.
