Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date
Posted: 12/25/2007 7:33:33 PM
In Lansing I like the Eastwood Towne Center. There are several good restraunts there, my favorite being the Claddah Irish Pub. There's a Starbucks where Lansing's SECOND best coffee is served (a distant second to Beaners) , and the Schuler's Books has a small coffee shop in it as well. The NCG theater gets LOTS of my business.

If I ever were to risk dating again I'd take my date there. It's right be U.S. 127 at the Lake Lansing road exit at the north end of town.

Good Places to eat, and good places to take a date: Grand Rapids edition

OK......I'm not a professional, but I very much enjoy rating the food and service of restaurants.
in stars: one star= lame 5 stars = AWESOME

For the high-end impress him/her dates:

#1) The Melting Pot: ***** (Knapp Corners Plaza-East Beltline)
The food choices are very interesting. If you want to take the time to genuinely get to know someone and share an experience, I suggest this place. The food is incredible. The atmosphere is perfectly romantic. It is somewhat pricey, but you can get 4-5 courses for TWO for around $100 (including a couple of beverages AND desert) This choice is perfect for that date with the person you just can't wait to fall in love with.

#2) Shanghai Ichibahn ***** (29th st/East Beltline)
The owner (Steve) is a wonderful man. He will do whatever he can to ensure that your visit is one to remember. This is the PERFECT place for an elegant and fun meal. You can choose Chinese or the Japanese Hibachi meal ~ (My personal preference: Japanese side~Ask for Sing: he's the BEST at what he does!) They have wonderful
drinks, fabulous food, and incredible entertainment at the same time. You have a "family style" meal at a large table with approximately 10-12 other people. Every time is a different experience depending on the people at your table. Food choices include anything from steak, lobster, chicken, fish, shrimp, crab legs, escallops, vegetarian, or any combination of these. They also serve Sushi and Saki. A meal for two can range from approximately $30 each (including an alcoholic beverage) up to over $50 if you choose the appetizers and the Lobster/Crab Legs/Steak choices in combination with alcoholic beverages. Another personal note: Try the plumb wine! It's awesome! You can also buy merchandise to commemorate your date. <img src=http://www.plentyoffish.com/smiles/icon_201.gif border=0>

Medium fare in the Grand Rapids area:

#3) Uccello's Restaurant and Sports Lounge ****
This fabulous environment caters to the sports enthusiast. With more than ½ dozen beers on tap, at least 7 big screen tv's on the wall PLUS tv's lining the circumference of the bar this would be the perfect place to meet up with that special someone with a flair for being active. They have a WONDERFUL Italian selection on the menu: some of my favorites~ the 6 cheese lasagna, the chicken marsala, and for the salad guru...a wonderful Riviera Salad which includes strawberries, mandarin oranges, cashews, swiss cheese, tomatoes, spring lettuce and is served with a bread stick and poppy seed dressing (**if you add chicken strips.....WOW! It is simply to die for!**) Just a warning: You had better be hungry! All of the meals are definitely meant for a hungry person! Also, they have a fabulous selection of appetizers including Chicago Style Cheese Bread Sticks , pizza puffs, and a fabulous Margherita dip with flatbread chips that is simply mouthwatering! There are several different locations around the Grand Rapids area (3 in all I believe) One in Caledonia at 84th st/M-37, one right near the Woodland Mall at the Beltline/28th street, and one on the North side in Standale on Lake Michigan Drive. There is sports, there is music on the patio in the summer and a juke box all year round, pool tables, keno, and trivia boxes for those of you that like to "get involved" in your dinner experience.

#4) Logan's Roadhouse ****
This is NOT your every day steakhouse! Some locations offer a deli-style selection of the steak menu. All locations encourage you to munch on a bucket of peanuts while waiting for your enticing meal to arrive and don't worry about the shells, you just drop them on the floor!!!! (You won't even get tossed out!) All locations also have a bar, some locations have limited alcohol sales on Sundays. All of the fantastic and yummy butter-topped yeast rolls you can eat to start you off! The menu includes anything from the best steaks, southern fried catfish, teriyaki-grilled chicken, or even a mesquite-grilled pork chop~ Too many selections to mention. Too many locations to pin point. But this I know to be true: I have not been to one YET where I have been disappointed with the food OR the service. The food is always fabulous. The servers are always great. It's a fun and friendly environment for everyone! Don't forget desert! They have recently added these little min-bucket deserts that you can get for like.....3/$5 or something like that and you get to keep the little buckets.....one word: FAB -U-LOUS! (***just a note: PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR DATE DOES NOT HAVE PEANUT ALLERGIES BEFORE MAKING THIS CHOICE!****) Meals can run anywhere from as low as $6.99 up to around $21.99 for entree's. They are currently running specials on Mondays and Tuesdays at some locations that offer TWO full meals for $12.99 for those "I can't wait for the weekend to see you" dates.

As I said, I am NOT a professional food critic, but these are what I believe to be some fabulous places to take a date for dinner, drinks, and even some entertainment.
Best wishes on catching your fishes!

Just remember: The best way to a man or a woman's heart is through their stomach!
