| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 1/23/2007 5:24:57 PM | I'm glad somebody resurrected this thread because I have a HILARIOUS recent personal experience with Yahoo. I do have a paying membership there yet, snd just a day or so ago I got contacted by a guy right here in my town. It was one of those "icebreaker" things that free members can send, and asked "how do you like to be contacted?" So I email the guy back and put in my regular Yahoo email address. OF COURSE, Yahoo blocked it out, because the guy isn't also a paying subscriber. Good old Yahoo, looking out for my safety! who knows, this nonpaying member could be just anybody, the local ax murderer, a white slaver...so they block out my email address. I suspected that was gonna happen,so I sent a second email with my cell phone number in it, and Yahoo let THAT go through! Oh yeah they were real worried about my safety, block an email address and let a phone number through. Before anybody starts telling me how dangerous it was for me to give out a phone #, did you note that it was my CELL phone? Totally different area code, and I doubt my carrier would give out personal information without a warrant or court order. Oh and yeah, the guy DID call, that's how I know for a fact that Yahoo Personals didn't edit out the email with the number.

I'm no expert but I'm thinking it's your photo. Using a photo with someone else in it, is a bad idea -MORE SO if it's the opposite sex. Change your picture to show just you and I am willing to bet (I am from Vegas - it's what we do ;)) your email in box will soon become active.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 2/20/2007 3:27:53 PM | Funnily enough I have read this thread with interest, but never thought about commenting. I am also on match and haven't had any bad experiences so far. But I caught another thread that mentioned loveaccess, so I thought read some reviews on it. Apparently it has a higher ratio of women to men. So why not join and see what happens?
Well within a couple of days of putting up my non paying membership I received notification that 2 people are interested in me. Both young and georgeous Ukrainean's, 24 and 26. How great is this site? One of the profiles is no longer available from the site and the other I haven't yet responsed to but think I will for a laugh.
Anybody think I will get a response? lol

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 4/28/2007 11:49:37 AM | I believe that Yahoo and Other similar sites are in it just for the profit. Not safety at all. My experiences with Yahoo personals have convinced me that it is about the bottom line. They lure you in for the trial with plenty of virtual matches which in many cases do not exist. Of course once you sign up suddenly your options shrink rapidly until the end of the billing cycle. Of course you may not be able to even contact the match because of the lack of subscription. They have many spambots and outdated profiles. It is awfully obvious that the email block for non- subscribers cannot prevent the links from pay per view websites. For example "Oh do you remember me?" is a common response thru instant message. How could I possibly remember somebody I wanted to forget? They seem to think that us single guys are brain dead. Obviously they must rack up quite a bit of income and it is a guys personal choice to proceed. One would think the profitable online dating sites would include stricter spam controls. I could go on about the ever popular Nigerian scammers too. I am very glad that I have been able to avoid being scammed from overseas. Beware some of these scumbags and scumbagettes will undoubtedly bilk you on your credit cards if you pursue It is obvious plenty of us have gotten these offers. Just my two cents and not $19.99 | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 5/10/2007 9:39:00 AM | | lol I have gotten some of the Russian ladies contacting me and I have gone along with their emails. I'll ask questions in them and never get responses in the next email. I'll say I work in a secret government mayonaise factory and there is no mention of it lol. They fall inlove after 4 days of emails, its really funny except knowing that some poor saps fall for it. I told one that I a new sex slave and can't wait for her to get here lol she said her sister was right, I'm only out for her body. lol Those ruskie guys have no sense of humor. And I meant guys lol with the pictures of their sisters lol. I'll probably play along with another one for my amusement when they contact me again. Unless of course one of you local gals can fall inlove with me after 3 days lol Take care .... | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 5/10/2007 5:17:54 PM | inspire 372 ~ I don't know ~ ?? Does it appear that I'm responding to you ? Well ~ I am
Learning curve I suppose ~ I clicked reply under your post.
Regarding Pay Date Sites ~ I have not felt comfortable with them ~ todate
It a fact, ( as far as I'm conserned) that adminstration jacks with you on True, winks, blinks, nobs, farts, whatever ~ you can't seperate the real from the BS. ~ and that kind of sad ~ cause I believe the was some real sincere women there SOMEWHERE.
They have planted employees inside the system just to keep things stired up. the more provoctive sites ~ the chick are scamming and culling ~ It's be like trying to make time with Irma La Duce ~ 70% of you won't know who that is ~ Irma was a lady of the evening. ~ it's all about the money.
There has always been a market out there that fed on loney, horny men. ~~ this is just another angle were women are used as the bait to get into a mans pocket. The man hoping to find someone special or at least get their pecker wet.
These women I speak of ~ have a hard time writting much more then a paragraph ~ if they have just got it the bussiness and are starting out ~ you might get 3 ~ but as they build and get comfortable and the money rolls in ~ a sentence or two is all you will get. They are working numbers ~ and what the boss tells them to do.
I think there is degrees of this going on at many sites, ~ Think about it ~ It's hard to start a site ~ and get it working as well as POF ~ Even here on POF, New people get involved expect something to happen SooN ~ rarely is that way ~ sure you may get a lot of responce ~but not necessary what you are looking for. ~ The pretty girls ( even not so pretty) get all the young hard**** ~ first thing. ~ the guys? ~ I only know what I get.
I think that there is some good pay site ~ but I don"t know of any at the moment.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 5/10/2007 6:53:49 PM | | Yes, they are. I recently joined a dating service called Matchmaker International,...& received nothing in return. I am now about to have to go to small claims court to get my money back....because they won't return it. I've never joined a pay site, but I suspect they're the same way. | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 5/10/2007 7:19:40 PM | Yahoo was not blocking your email for YOUR safety. They do that so Both Parties have to pay to be on the site. Most people do not give out their phone number so easily , so they do not block them. Many people give out their email address. so they have a block on that. | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 5/10/2007 10:05:57 PM | Bet yer boot's they are!
Take Yahoo for example. Or any paying site for that matter!
Say you "ARE" a "paid" member. You find someone you think you would click with. You send that person a message. Guess what? That person "CAN'T" open the message! That person "CAN'T" reply to you! So,,,, WHAT ARE YOU PAYING FOR????????
Again on Yahoo or any paying site.
Again, you are a "PAID" member. You send your "e-mail" address to someone. Guess What? It's blacked out!!!!!!!!!!!! So,,,,, Again, you "paid" for NOTHING!
***** NOTE: The only way a paying site works is, if "BOTH" parties are paying!
So, in my book, this is "FRAUD" !!!!! Because, what is the paying member getting for "their" money?
Just my thought on the topic. Terri

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 7/18/2007 11:02:46 AM | Hi,
I'm wondering if you've heard of match.com posting your profile even though you've "deactived" or hidden your profile? My friend claims that he has it hidden cause he didn't know how to delete his account. I asked him why it was up and he claimed he didn't know anything about it though it said , "active within 24 hrs". Please let me know.
thanks. | |

|
| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/29/2007 11:55:03 AM | most pay sites I heard are rip offs and they even set up fake profiles. I would stay with this site. The site called match.com is not a complete rip off and his a well known dating site.
I heard about yahoo personals setting up fake profiles and I have heard many things about true.com.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/29/2007 12:24:59 PM | When I get emails from women in China and Russia, I just reply saying "...I'd like to meet you, too--just fly into Detroit and we'll meet for a drink.." I never hear anything from them again.
Seriously, the good old days of internet dating are in the past. Back in 1999 and 2000, we had the free sites like Excite and Love@aol and they REALLY worked! I met lots of women back then. Now that millions more people own computers, the "seas are over-fished".
POF is the best there is on the internet--thanks!!

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/29/2007 12:54:57 PM | Pay sites do not care if you get results. Infact it is in there best interest if you do not get results. It costs very little to keep a free site running. Advertising alone can do that. Pay sites are only about how much they can make. If they can have paid actors and staffers pretend to be couples or singles with lots of dates, that is the only crediblity they need to keep them in the money game. The advice they give on there sites is often common sence or destined to fail. it is also written to be confusing. it is a scam.
Stay with the free sites like this. At least when you get an email it is from a real person.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/29/2007 12:59:52 PM | Of course they are scamming us - I did fall for it early on, and they simply exploit those genuine ones out there.
Certainly in my area, the ratio of men to women is highly imbalanced. Far too few single women to go round. So I have found it tough over the years to find someone, and after all, that is why most of us are on here.
What I am interested from this thread is something positive, I hardly get any emails anyway, but which sites are genuinely the best? OK, the free ones... but which ones for the south of the UK?
Maybe I will start a comparison reporting website to find some moderation and raise the barrier, ridding us genuine people of the exploitive behaviour and treatment being received. That will sort it out!

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/29/2007 2:44:05 PM | Of course it's a scam to get your money. I had a guy to contact me telling me that he was notified that I had sent a message to him that I was interested. Guess I don't need to tell you that I never sent one word to him. I saw him in a list of searches but I never singled him out or looked at his profile. He was among a list of photos of other guys. Also, this site boasted hundreds of available men but most of them were repeats and threepeats. I often wondered after that just how many men they sent that message to. But you are right! I always got a fresh batch of new prospects when it was time to pay up again and then the searches they did send had nothing to do with what I selected in my search options. Some of them even tell you that they are free only to discover that you can't email or IM or anything else unless you become a member or you are signing up free on a trial period provided you give them your credit card information first. You said it, Kevin. It is all a SCAM but I have to say that this site has been true to its word right from the start. That is why I am here! They are the absolute best! | |
