One site that really gouges you is Mate1. 49$ US a freaking month! For me in Can dollars that's a lot- 60$. For women its free and men have to pay. I tried it a few times and gave it up because over half of my e-mails came from fu cking Philipino women. What a nuissance that is...

I wouldn't worry too much about it Nipper. I am 58 and getting about 10 emails a day from guys here and mostly from 35 to 45 years old. Even though my profile is very blatant and open about who I am and only wishing to have fun with friends ,I still get the jerks who just wanta have sex. But I have met many new friends and had alot of fun here, regardless of whether I actually date them or not.
I belonged to several paid sites when I was first widowed and my daughter made the decision that I needed to start dating again. I had good results from match.com but decided to drop them when I found this place and webdate were free and had more results closer to home. I have never felt the need to pay 80 dollars a month for a date when I can have a really nice dinner out instead.
And boy do I hate those thingies where you get winked at or get an icebreaker and can't reply to them unless you pay up...no thank you...and have not been able to delete my profiles either...I guess they want to keep them for posterity. Too weird....and I wonder why they don't delete them when you haven't paid for a year or more. I think they keep the women's profiles on there so men have someone to look at.

Webdate?! Well, at least it's free, but no reputable responses to men. You write to someone who writes you first and suddenly your gettiing an email to go to their website. Real woman will find plenty of real men, I just can't see these sites placing fake male profiles, there are just too many guys looking. But I think real women shouldn't have trouble finding a real guy. Most sites, as a female, are usually free.

This is such an important topic, I'll actually type in proper form with capitals, punctuation, and everything!

More and more, the pay sites seem like scams.

I met a couple women from a pay site, they turned out to be nice enough, but nothing came of it - and that was out of dozens and dozens of attempts, of varying "lengths" of communication.

Match.com has been a complete failure, even after a few months. I'm really starting to doubt the veracity of some of the profiles - I've gotten numerous winks, emails, and they've all fallen cold after the supposed initial "interest".

I now have no expectations whatsoever for any of the sites I belong to, including this one. POF's great, because of the forums, but other than that, I've got a better chance of winning the lottery.

I would like to answer your question here but won't because of liabilities and affilliates and concerns of law.If you want to know send me a private email and I will reply to it.It wouldn't be fair to name names without them in defense of what I would say.But i will tell you that I have 10 new emails on Ameri singl just since my subscription ran out. Also another ten on adu frie findr since it ran out.I expect more from frien fin in a week or so when it runs out.

This just in - per KCBS-TV, Los Angeles - News broadcast 11:00 p.m. 11/18/05 Lead story:

Both yahoo personals and match are now being sued (one in California, the other in Florida, but not certain which is where) for fake profiles and setting up some dates which were really with company employees. Class-action status may be sought.

...And I thought that these were the "good' places - i.e. the least fraud-ridden of all. Oh well.

I've also had no luck with the pay sites.
I've run into a pay site sending me a 'hit' from a young woman that lives in my town.
Funny thing is, this is a rather small town and I KNOW I would have seen this gal!

My other favorite experience is also eHarmony.
Upon my completion of their "29 Dimension" profile, I received notice that they "could not match me with anyone at this time". oy
Probably because I didn't give them my money!

Dating sites are, in my opinion, a waste of time and people should not be sucked into the internet and return to the real world.

Well this is just my opinion.Maybe I really don't get email from my sites I visit while they are still paid for,but it is awfully funny when my subscription runs out they have messages for me again.0 for a month, then 4 or 5 messages to sucker me in to pay for them. Are they sending those new ones themselves.Haven't met any of them yet that popped up later. Some are from russia, rumania , and where ever.I didn't fall off the dumb wagon yesterday and when I did it wasn't on the stupid side. The only sites to trust is free ones. The other ones do not want you off the market ,it doesn't pay. They want you to fail. They also I think are holding back emails for 30 days or so so when you do make contact it is too late or they forgot about you,or they have spotted someone better by then.Needless to say those m$#@$!@# aren't getting more of my money. Some sites let you see who is on and have chat direct and I have found a few girls that way.Not to many from emails from other people.Who is to say that when girl replies she actually said no, maybe it was yes and they changed it,I have had way to many no's and almost zero yes i would like to date you.Kevin

sounds like platinum romance

OK, so what I thought "admin" was saying is that women over 40 have it pretty hard. Well of course we do. When the odds are 5 to 1 in favour of available men to women, it is my experience that when men surf the ads, they set their paramenters for approximately 15 years younger than they are - so our postings are not even being surfed, seen, or responded to. I have two daughters (one 25 one 27) and in their wildest dreams they are not dating men who are anywhere near 40. So maybe it is just men hoping against hope that women much younger will be attracted to - what - their large ....... wallets? Luckily for me, I am only alone, not lonely, as the old saying goes "I will survive". I just feel sort of sad, as I know that I am a hell of a lot of fun, and smart to boot. But I guess at my advanced years of 51 I might as well just get some cats and learn to knit.

PS - you are defintely NOT butt ugly - not even close (no, your Mom didn't pay me to say that) Good Luck to you, although I don't understand why you would need it. Anybody who can make me laugh that much in only a couple of paragraphs has my vote - even thousands of miles away.

When the odds are 5 to 1 in favour of available men to women,

Could you elaborate on that a bit? If that were really true, than I would think that 40-year-old women would be falling over themselves to date me -- which isn't happening, or at least, not to my satisfaction...

Hello all, I actually run a free site called Lonelyspam.net, but there aren't too many people on there....but trust this, they are all real....nothing behind it trying to take your money or get you hooked up with some "babe" for 14.95 a month....

I've tried the paysites and they really suck!!

[I'm starting to feel strongly that internet dating is just not a good idea. It's a great way to meet friends, but as for more. NOPE.]

I find that if I start out with NO expectations then I am never disappointed. I have met my share of boring types but that happens in "real life" too, not just on the Net.

Tomorrow I have a brunch date with a new guy from an internet personals site...not POF. If he's not the "new love of my life".... so what?? I will have had a nice breakfast and maybe some good company.

I have read with interest all your postings and agree wholeheartedly with what you say, I am 63 Yes I know an old fart but I don't look or feel it, anyway I have been duped by these sites also, If I don’t pay I will get much mail from many many very young girls, from 19 to 33 year old, I replied to one to ask why she would want to go out with someone more than twice their age,….. Yes you guessed it no reply, I don’t
Subscribe to these sites anymore, but thank all at POF for at least a chance to meet
Someone.

Women don't rule the dating sites. I have tried numerous times to hide my email addy in my profiles, keeps getting rejected.

I have subscribed to several sites in the hopes of meeting someone, have had very few emails, usually the ones that you can't read or reply to without subscribing (which I have learned not to).

I keep getting winks etc, but when I reply back, I get nothing in return.

This is true..the pay sites are definately a scam...a good clue is if all your email is from gorgeous woman who don't address you by name or anything related to your profile..."Hi...saw you were online..want to chat"? I've seen this message countless times from countless gorgeous women and i was'nt even online

Absolutely! I got e-mails thanking me for sending winks to users when I didn't. I also got "winks" from users, and when I responded, they had no idea what I was talking about. I had a feeling something strange was going on. Glad I never dropped a dime on these sites.

Anyone know how we can add our two cents to help the suit? I'm not necessarily interested in $$$$, but I also don't want to go through legal red tape for nothing.

I don't know about yahoo but true beginnings I think it was was sending flirts to woman addressed from me that I never sent so I dumped them, never paid anyways so no loss. A couple of racier sites I get winks or brief messages from half my age models that I'd never really get even in my wildest dreams so that's obviously a scam. like one guy said, if you don't see a response that addresses something from your profile, then it's likely bait to sucker you into paying. You might try and have a contact tell you what town they are from if they try to e-mail you. I've actually had almost all my dates from yahoo so I can't say anything bad about them. These free sites are pretty good but not many woman for some reason, guess they don't hunt as hard as the guys do.

This is MY experience at least.

With yahoo they have a list of matches and rate them for me out of a total of 5 hearts.
Every time i log into yahoo personals and see my matches they are always ranked differently (swapping places all the time).

For example, one person would be my perfect match...but the next day they would not.

However, neither me nor the lass in question has done, said or changed anything in the profile that would affeact this statistic.

What the hell is going on???

Thank god I didn't subscribe!!!!!!!
