| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/22/2005 10:40:50 AM | | I have been a paying member and a non paying memeber on many sites. What is common to all sites is the ratio on men to women. Must be 20 guys to 1 women . or more. Is their a site out there that comes close to 50/50 or am i just wasting my time? | |

A started a group in yahoo called AdultDatingSiteScams. There is some practical info on whom to complain to. It's a discussion like this one. Check it out and add your 2 cents there, too.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/23/2005 1:13:08 PM | | America Singles is trying to scam me to pay. They keep telling me I have messages. But I can see when I check my account it says no members have e-mailed me. AND what it comes down to is that you have to pay to read your e-mail. Screw them, I will probably dump my membership soon. | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/24/2005 12:43:34 PM | | any dating site that lets you sign up for free but don't let you contact another member until you "upgrade" your membership is in my opinion scamming or at least not being truthful.no wonder the players and jokers are on these sites if the site is not being truthful and stringing you along i guess its members feel it is okay to string along and play games with other members of the website. | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/28/2005 4:56:42 PM | Funny, I was doing some simple math the other day. These sites like to "brag" about how many members they have. So I figured 642,456 members at $24.95/month is a whopping $16M/month. But even if only 1% actually sign up and pay, that's still $160,000/month. Nice income.
Of course, when I put in my profile how much money they were making, my profile was frozen until 12/10 for "abuse"
So, how 'bout they charge something REASONABLE like $5/mo or something?
And, yes, I finally did pay on one site because I was getting so many emails. They all turned out to be sent from the service.
Just stirrin' up trouble...

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 11/28/2005 8:31:30 PM | I agree i got sucked in to eharmony and yahoo, this one is much better but haven't found anyone yet.
there are players women that is even on the pay sites like eharmony i was shocked at the concept of someone paying 40 bux a month playing games or just flat out dating for dollars when all the eharmony comercials talk about finding the right match, and 70% of the matches they send you have no picture at all, you go through this long drawn out constricted question and answer section with no idea of how a match may look.
the one positive of eharomny is that you can choose only to pay for one month or whatever you choose there is no auto renew with them.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/17/2005 11:06:13 AM | I'm with you on the paid site scam. Check out these messages I received supposedly from girls "interested in me". Tell me if YOU think they're personal enough to be real girls...
Hi Lee, I like driving with the top down as well, as you can see from my picture. I have 3 dogs myself and they usually go most places with me. Sorry to not have gotten back with you sooner, but have been pretty busy with Christmas and all. I have been an animal lover most of my life and also enjoy the wild ones as well as the domesticated ones.
So how come no picture? ********************************************************************** funky12 hasn't winked back at you, but she's much more likely to respond to an email. Email her right now - FREE!

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/18/2005 3:45:56 PM | Hey Rabbitman-If you are being ignored at Match, it may be that the woman you're writing to isn't a member. I have received emails and winks from men I'd LOVE to correspond with, but I can't - So sometimes it's NOT a discourteous woman. I've received emails stating that I have emails at other sites and I can't even get in to read them. Those men may also think I'm ignoring them....
As for the automatic billing~ I was told at Match and other sites that if I go on to see if I have been unsubscribed- I'm USING the site, so it means they can charge me. My last paying experience was on Perfect Match. I tried "Bill Me Later" because I assumed it meant that they couldn't charge me again..WRONG>>>Now I keep getting bills from Bill Me Later..I throw them in the trash!! Besides..the PERFECT matches they had for me were mostly out of the country! It's a hell of a trip for a coffee date!
Geesh, I may be old, but I have to believe there are some men out there who would find me interesting...I just hope they are at the free sites..cuz I'm NEVER paying again!
PS Since when did Webdate start charging?? I've been a member for years and I've never paid a cent! Is it just free because my subscription is older?? hmmm. Curious.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/22/2005 10:57:12 PM | Hey!
It doesn't matter whether it is free or not. When people do not have the courtesy of replying, even saying no thanks, then it all seems like a scam.
Jim, I totally agree with you on this one. It just basically shows how people really are when they won't even give you the time of day.
So, sad..... in my . | |

I thought about that - but then perhaps only about 1% (1ΒΌ% is closer) of the female profiles are paid then - because that's my apparent response rate, including the negative ones too. I've contacted over 500 ladies in my time there (8+ months). I've also found out that match seems to have a 5,000 limit on the number of people one could exclude from searches - because I've hit that limit this month (and I still have 500+ local "reverse" matches to go)! That's what I get for living in the second largest population center of the U.S. Apparently, I'm not a "mainstream" online-dater as the highest percentage score I've had with anyone on there is 87% (once), and 80%+ with only about 30 ladies - but I'm not going to change who I am; that would be almost as bad....
It is interesting to learn that the experience of the guy who brought the lawsuit was quite different.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/26/2005 11:29:52 PM | ..... in a totally "off-kilter" manner.... it just reinforces the "scientific assumption".... that dating/relationships/searching for a potential date...is one big game.
... first of all, why should you have to pay to do something one may just be shy about doing in person..... and why should you have to pay to search for something that doesn't cost you anything in your day-to-day grind ?
It's like city planners that do ("ethnic") research on people for what they want to put on a street.....
Case in point: they feel certain races feel they can't live without the latest cell-phone, and rediculously expensive (not to mention gaudy) jewlery, so ...to "attract" that demographic of business.... every other store on that street, is a "Joe's on fire bling-bling jewlery shop"..... or a "Celluilar Island".
..my analogy is that those with the intent on playing games...simply pay...to do so it's meeting people. not las vegas. ...and of course the selling points are :
"...aren't you tired of being alone..." (... yeah, but for a monthly fee of 60.00, which we'll make sure turns out to equate to a year, you could find your soul mate)
"Certified researchers team up with us to find you that perfect someone"... (which means your credit card purchase is well worth it, because we can "scientifically" find you a soul mate ....of course, for a fee...)
"...sign on for your free month ...and meet billions ( ) of hot singles right in your area NOW..." (....but you only get the free month after they successfully get your business for the 2 paid in full months.... and what happens if noone messages you in any of those 3 months.... you just paid 80.oo for the same thing you did before you got duped
"Hurry.... Ms.right is waiting for someone red-hot like you right now.... all you need is a valid e-mail address" (95% of the time ...."Ms.right" ...is really the dating site administration and all you REALLY need...is a credit card and the willingness to pay them
...sorry for my abstract rambling... I hope it resonated with someone here...or you guys at least got a chuckle out of it

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/28/2005 1:28:48 PM | I am VERY dissapointed with AFF.
They made a claim that I would have to pay $20 extra to allow non-gold members to email me. Turns out it's not even true. I have talked to many females who are able to email non gold members and have no gold status themselves.
Seems to be a reocuring theme with pay dating sites. Females get extra benefits while men are paying extra for something that is not even needed

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/28/2005 2:07:35 PM | The part is when they send their people into other free websites like this one. There will be women I contact that will say, "I'm not really visiting this website all that much these days, but you should check out my profile at this other website..." They'll avoid talking to you on the free website directing you to a website that you have to pay for. Another thing is those "romance" specialist groups like Great Expectations that gets your hopes up, kiss your butt like a car salesman wanting to make his quota for the month, and only after you've signed up do you find out how much of a mistake it was and how little they really give a crap about you. Once they get your money, it doesn't matter. The worst websites are the ones that you sign up for a free trial, and without warning, they automatically sign you up for paid services. Learned the hard way a long time ago to avoid anyone or anything involving asking for my credit card number and/or those that try to get you hooked with wasting your time with setting up a free account only to force you to spend money to actually contact someone. And even then, there is absolutely no chance that you'll find someone. Why? Because most people are like you, they find out they have to pay, so you have a long list of free profiles posted and they can't respond to you until they pay too! Not worth it! I hadn't even thought about the long list of ways they could scam you, playing middle man to make sure you fail. Scary!
Besides, consider the luck (or lack there of) most of us on here are having with finding someone and this is probably the best free website I've found so far (Okay, so I've only found one other). Do you think you're going to have any better luck on a paid website? No, and probably even less since most of the profiles you're looking at are from people that signed up, found out they had to pay to do anything beyond establishing a profile, and left. So, you're not only fighting to odds of finding someone you click with, but even worse, someoen that you click with that is also dragged into paying? Luck of that working? Slim to none.

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/28/2005 2:13:35 PM | | Yes they are scamming us. I get about 3-4 responses a week out of POF and that is with me sending out about 50 e-mails. I checked out these other pay sites. True begginings, true.com, sex search.com, and a couple other ones. It is amazing that so many girls are sending winks and flirts but I haven't sent out one e-mail. Most of these e-mails get to me between the hours of 12P.M. and 6A.M. The funny thing is that people from POF never send me messages during these hours? I know they are trying to scam me and I knew there was something not right about the companies from the beggining, call it intuition if you will. I will not join any of these sites but since I have checked them out they won't stop e-mailing me trying to get me to join with winks and flirts. I don't want any part of their b*u*l*l*s*h*i*t. So how do I get them to leave me the F*U*CK alone and to quit e-mailing me? | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/28/2005 2:38:40 PM | | Is it just me or is anyone else wasting their whole Christmas vacation reading and writing threads? I tried a paid site for a month, and kept getting "flirts" but when I sent messages to these "women", they never answered. So, were they getting blasted with their friends and doing this on a dare, or do they even exist? Why would you flirt with someone then ignore them. Someone with basic computer knowledge could easily set up an automated site that would mimic an online dating site, and the odds against getting caught are good. HMMMM...there's a way to help offset the cost of the holidays. The opportunity to charge people for nothing is there, and I am sure it is being done. | |

| are the pay sites scamming us Posted: 12/28/2005 7:03:40 PM | I'm kind of new to this sort of thing, but just thought that I'd toss in my 2-cents worth. I have held non-paying memberships in several dating services, including both the old and new Excite & Yahoo programs, and several of the others mentioned exc. ameri singl and eHarmony. I didn't understand why I was never satisfied with the programs (exc. for the original Excite & Yahoo sites), until I was directed to this site by one lady I contacted. Yesterday, without thinking twice about it, I shut down all of the other memberships, because during the first 24 hours on POF, I had 4 new contacts (the ladies originated), and I am having a ball exchanging emails and IMs. Prior to this situation, I had all of four contacts from all of the previous 4 years combined! Scam? I think you'd better believe it!!! Good to hear that they are now being officially found out. | |
