| How did your parents meet?
Posted: 7/24/2007 3:42:36 AM | In high school my mom was best friends with one of my dad's sisters. My aunt hooked them up and now 40-some years later they are still together (rare these days), have two grown kids, 4 grandkids, and enjoying their retirement.
Guess sometimes there is something to be said for "matchmakers" lol.
I suppose I'm following in my aunt's footsteps, I set up my older brother with an older gal pal of mine, they've been married for 2 years now.

Dad was married with four kids. Then his wife suddenly "accidentally" got pregnant with kid #5, and that was all he could take. It had been an unfortunate marriage from the start (he was military, they only knew each other a few weeks, but by the time he realized it was a mistake, kid #1 was on the way).
Where did my mother come into the picture? She was my dad's 10-years-younger secretary, thank you very much.
Fortunately my dad was a wonderful man, so what could have turned into a 'City Confidential' episode actually turned into a pretty cohesive family unit. I'm very close to my older brothers, and there's never been any "half" to it. We're all just family.
When my dad passed away he and mom had been married just shy of 25 years. | |

Posted: 9/17/2007 4:34:08 PM | My dad came to an RAF base near here and went to a dance, and met my mum, they fell head over heels. They decided to meet up again, but didnt say were, just when. My dad asked a few people where people in my town met and went there,, luckily thats where my mum was.
After that they were inseperable, were married for 40 years till my dad past away almost two years ago. | |

My parents have been married for 42 years now, I think their friends about the same. Every summer when i was a kid we would go and spend a week or weekend with them. | |

Posted: 9/17/2007 10:01:00 PM | My Mom had to travel half way around the world to meet my Dad lol.
My Mom and her twin sister had decided when they were 8 yrs old that they wanted to go to South Africa one day. They didnt know how or when but they were going to do it.
16 yrs later when they were 24 they started their journey to S.A. I believe my Mom and my Aunt had been there I think less than a year. When she met my Dad through some friends there. My Dad chased her. He was 26 yrs her senior. She gave in and dated him. 3 weeks after he met her he proposed to her. She has said she didnt say yes right away but had to think about it. I believe it was six month later on her 25 birthday they got married. There were 2 things that made my Mom say yes. other than the obvious...love. He bought her a watch and he was as twin as well. Both were 5 mins older than thier twin.
My oldest sister and my brother were born there before they came back to canada.
They were together for 13 yrs before my dad passed away.
My Mom met my step-dad the same way but locally..through friends...a blind date set up on new years eve. They have now been together for 21 yrs and still going strong...

Posted: 9/18/2007 6:35:25 AM | My parents met in college - my mom chose to go to Eastern Michigan because it was far away from her parents - their first semester, her roommate told her she had to meet her boyfriend's roommate...my dad was sitting on the upper bunk with his legs hanging over (looking like he was nekkid under a blanket) and all of a sudden jumped down and mom's roommate freaked - thought he actually was nekkid or something...but after much partying and inter-dorm-water-fights in that one semester, they moved back down to Va and are still happy and together to this day....
My grandparents, though...wow...not quite sure how they met - but their love is what inspires me....my grandfather grew these roses in their back yard - they were as big as my face....but he grew them so that she'd have roses every day...about once a week or so, he'd cut one and bring it in for her. He died within that statistical 5 yr period of her...he knew...he called us all to the hospital to say goodbye and you could just see it in his smile and the glint he still held in his eyes...he was ready to go back to her...they both just shone and glowed together....even after 60 yrs together...I want that. :) | |

Posted: 9/18/2007 8:05:08 AM | My parents met at summer camp when they were fourteen My father pointed to my mother and told his friends - "That's the girl I'm going to marry." They got married when they were 22 years old. The way my mother looked, I think every guy at camp must have said the same thing that summer :)
I guess I shouod have paid more attention when I was at camp! LOL | |

He clucked like a chicken and my mom thought he was the strangest boy she had ever met. She didn't want to have anything to do with him but he was smitten and pursued her. They were married within a year. They were just shy of their 60th anniversary when Dad passed away. | |

After 2 years she finally asked him out!!! He later admitted he wouldn't have asked her out because he thought she was way out of his league!!

Posted: 9/20/2007 7:08:10 PM | My mom worked at a walk up taco shop. My dad roared up on his motorcyle and asked for a hamburger. He says my mom made him the best one he ever had and my mom was attracted the wild young man fresh from vietnam. The rest is history. They have been married 37 years.

to become pen pals,
my mother and her sister both answered his ad,
but my dad only replied to my mother,
They fell in love writing letters and were married for 26 yrs,
until he passed away.
Their love story has always seemed romantic to me,
a lonely soldier of ww2 and pretty girl that waited for him.
Knowing that story always inspires me
to enjoy every avenue of meeting people and dating,
and finding new friends..
and who knows???

My parents are both immigrants from Greece. My mom was 9 yrs younger than my dad... and was restricted from doing very much, being the only girl in her family ( and having 4 brothers ) ... she never could go anywhere without having her brothers around...and so she always felt stifled. 
My dad, being from a great well-known wealthy family, was from the next village over and came to her village to visit a friend. When he noticed her, he thought she was beautiful and thought to himself ...“now that is the woman I’m going to marry!”  ahhhhh! So he set out the next week to ask her father, my grand father, for her hand in marriage, and they were simply thrilled!
She, only the other hand, wanted badly to come to Canada because she heard so much good about it, and even though he “looked like James Dean” ... saw him as her ticket to FREEDOM!!

So they hooked up,  and got married very soon after and moved to Canada. They settled in a quaint home in Danforth area (hhhhmmm... you wouldnt have guessed would you??.. being Greek town? LMAO )
They had four BEAUTIFUL daughters, and 3 wonderful son-in-laws, 3 grand-daughters and 2 grand-sons... and are retired and living in cottage country, having been married 47 wonderful years.
To think...if my dad hadn’t had money...she wouldnt have married him!!!

He asked her out for Christmas Eve the year after they graduated (he'd come home from the service). She told him she already had a date with the other guy. He was heart broken and decided to take a job in Georgia (they lived in Louisiana). She realized that she loved him and was losing him so she wrote to him. He came quit the job, came home, and asked her to marry him. They will be celebrating their 50th next year. | |
