| WHATS THE BEST THING SANTA CAN BRING YOU THIS YEAR... Posted: 11/7/2005 7:00:33 PM | | Just some company on Christmas day. I'm sure I'll be okay, but after the early morning's presents, the kids go to daddy's. It's the first Christmas without my kids, and my first Christmas without my parents close by, and I'll not be very happy on that day I don't think. | |

| WHATS THE BEST THING SANTA CAN BRING YOU THIS YEAR... Posted: 11/8/2005 6:15:03 AM | Since my marriage broke up I have been alone for Xmas. Last year I had to go to Edmonton for something and it happened to be over Xmas. To avoid even an accidental run in with my ex, or I would have run him in, I rented a car and took my sons with me to BC to my sisters. This year I will be alone again...I am not going anywhere. I just find that everything is sureal at Xmas. No tree, laughter, presents....everything is disjointed. My family is scattered all across Canada, so even with the Ex out of the picture, there are still no family gatherings for me. So, as I said in an earlier post....I dont need anything materialistic. I don't remember the last time I received a present for anything, either Xmas or my birthday. I just would like for this year to be the one that someone special is there with me to share the season! | |

Posted: 11/8/2005 6:21:41 AM | ^^^^I know that surreal feeling...I have my sons...and that keeps me focused...I make sure there are gifts for anyone who will be at my house...it is not about being materialistic to want a present with your name on it......it is about seeing your name on that beautifully wrapped box...and not wanting to open it too fast...that box means somebody remembered you. Everyone wants someone to remember them. Greanize your post made me cry...wish I could give you a hug right now. I don't get gifts at Christmas...I haven't had a present under the tree for a couple of years now. Except for the wonderful homemade with love gifts...from my sons...those gifts are more precious than gold to me.

| WHATS THE BEST THING SANTA CAN BRING YOU THIS YEAR... Posted: 11/8/2005 6:31:45 AM | Since my marriage broke up, I have been alone for Xmas too (and living alone in Canada also, no less!!). Last year I was in a relatoinship at Christmas, so I was really looking forward to a nice 'family time' type of holiday .... YA RIGHT!! It ended up being one of the worst Christmases in history for me. Not only did the relationship end (for the most absurd of circumstances even!), but the relationship with her family ended, another friendship was strained in the process, and I ended up never seeing or talking to several people there ever again - all of this happened within a matter of 2 seconds! (Nightmare City, I can assure you!)
This Xmas is going to be completely different for me. Somehow I am going to find myself at the center of a fun and festive holiday celebration .. even if I have to travel to another part of the world to find it! I am going to contribute my time, energy and generosity to complete and total strangers in December 2005 (none of these people will ever know my name either!!!), and I am going to do this 'Just Because!' The best thing Santa can bring me this year is the fruition of this plan. Happy Holidays!

| WHATS THE BEST THING SANTA CAN BRING YOU THIS YEAR... Posted: 11/8/2005 6:37:56 AM | I hardly ever got a gift when I was married. My mom or mother in law would send something...usually a card with a small cash gift. It was easier for them instead of buying something and mailing it. My husband hardly ever did any xmas shopping. Some years he would have a generous moment, and other years it was ... oh it is that time again? One year for Xmas he gave me a wrapped roll of toilet paper. He had unrolled a good portion of the toilet paper and had taped inside every few sh!t tickets (as Creter so wonderously labled it) some money to add up to a total of a hundred bucks. I never used the money for myself. I think I bought either groceries or something for my sons. It was just another example of what he thought of me and he made it known to any and all who came to visit!
I can understand why so many people get depressed and want to hurt themselves at Xmas. I know I had a few years of near insanity, I am sure. One year on Xmas day I sat in my tiny apt all day...no one called me, no one visited, no one sent me an email. I called a few family members and no one was home...they were out having dinner at someone elses place. I called a few friends, but they were with their families. I called my sons but they were with their father. So I was genuinely alone and it was the absolute worst thing I ever endured. I sat at the computer and surfed the internet all day and I watched movies on TV. I had a tiny tree up and nothing under it on Xmas morning except a little cat toy I got for Herman. So this year.....it is going to be different!

Helping someone else to not feel quite so lonely at that time of year...is the best gift we can give to ourselves as well.

Dar50 ... Thank you for recognizing that I plan on doing all of this for ME (in my desire to forget about last year). I am certainly not kidding myself to think I am doing this for anyone else really (although my deeds will likely be appreciated by those on the receiving end)

| WHATS THE BEST THING SANTA CAN BRING YOU THIS YEAR... Posted: 11/8/2005 7:08:35 AM | Miss Allison, that is a very good idea! I was thinking of this myself actually. A little closer to home.....like maybe at my place!
I have an open invite for dinner from a friend but I don't want to intrude on them. I propose that I make a turkey for all interested (within reason of course) in sharing it with me. I make a GOOD turkey btw, so you won't be disappointed. :)
Email me if you are interested.
