In fact, the Geneva Bible was the principal English Bible initially brought to American soil, making it the Bible that shaped early American life and impacted Colonial culture more than any other.

A lot of people don't like, or even hate, what they don't understand. Fear is of course behind that dislike/hate, but it doesn't take away from the fact there is often violence involved with fear.

My response about the bible was in answer to Dahliakitten statement about the KJV.
And I would have to say the Bible in some form with interpretation did tell the Pilgrams that that had the right to drive the Heathens out.
After all the Bible makes direct reference to Pagan type worship which I am sure that is what the Indians looked like they were doing.

| The Great Sign, Richest Religion In The World....Christianity Posted: 12/6/2005 9:51:38 PM | | my point is.....if the country was based on the bible.........and a lot of bad stuff happened because of it(like what happened to the natives) then it's not something to be proud of. The point of the thread was........because the richest countries are considered christian; that means it's the best religion....how many countries are rich because of what they stole, or hoarded? Didn't canada(and maybe US) have to make a settlement with the japanese people who were sent to internment camps--and had their property taken? I think both countries have evolved(i hope), and everybody--of all(and non) religions should be given credit. | |

And if they are christian minded then how comes they have not used their massive wealth to alleviate or to mitigate the poverty that exists in this world or even in many significant parts of the USA?

I thought the christian religion was based on humility.......and .......what are the 7 deadly sins??? I think one of them is greed. Another is gluttony.........!

You are right because christianity is or should be about love for all of humanity and not merely about hoarding wealth as a status symbol while millions starve and lead lives of quiet desperation.
I know that some individuals perceive greed and gluttony as good qualities to possess...but it would be very sad if the chuch shared their perception in relation to that matter....

| The Great Sign, Richest Religion In The World....Christianity Posted: 12/12/2005 11:39:13 AM | The OP makes an odd comment when looking at monies and their association with religion. If I go to church A will I automatically become more wealthy than if I go to church B? Not unless I am on the pyramid sales program selling bibles to church attendees and church A has more attendees than church B. The old 80/20 rule?
But since most of us sell things non related, how could we prosper simply because we attend a particular denomination?
Christians are probably growing in the USA - don't know. As a Christian I do not wear a cross around my neck (or anything else). I have not hired or fired people because they did / didn't.
It would be interesting to see a list of the rich and their religion. Then we should also see where the rich live, how many originated their own wealth or inherited it, blah blah blah. A good thesis paper.
I don't base religious preference on who I do business with. Although, I do not like the change from the word Christmas to Holiday, this year - I might change my stance and not give my monies to businesses who do not use the word Christmas. Take heed ye ol big box stores!

If there be a all powerful being, it would bless the true religion. Its true religion would be hard workers, and would prosper. Notice all the Christian nations....and how they have prospered. I ask you, what greater sign would you have in your life, for a religion to look at.
Ad Populum Fallacy.
Just because the religion has more followers and is more accepted, doesn't mean it has any more validity than other religions...
